We went to Florida back in July and rented three different cars from Alamo. Now today, November, we have all received letters from Alamo.
Dear Alamo Customer,
Thank you for choosing Alamo for your rental needs in the past.
We recently received the referenced violation notice for a vehicle which was rented to you at the time of the violation. Consistent with applicable laws and the terms and conditions of your rental agreement, we have promptly paid the balance due and expect to be reimbursed for our cost along with an additional administrative fee.
In accordance with the terms of the rental agreement you signed, you are responsible for "...legal violations, parking, tolls incurred by Owner against vecicle, driver, or Owner occuring during the Rental Period, unless caused by Owner. Owner may charge an administrative fee." The administrative fee listed below is assessed by Alamo Rent-A-Car not by the issuing agency
Pursuant to the agreement provisions, we are notifying you of your liability and we will process the following charges on the credit card presented at the rental counter.
If you wish to dispute the amount above, please contact the undersigned within 6 days from the date of this letter. Otherwise, we will process the charges to your credit card 6 days from the date of this letter.

Total Amount Due = $11.00

What's fishy is all three different vehicles and all three different families have received this letter. We tried to dispute it, but was told they are in Oklahoma, there is nothing they can do. How could all three vehicles have a violation??? The citation amount was $1.00 and the administration fee was $10.00!

Please let me know if anyone else has received such a letter....
Thanks!

Did you all follow each other at any point during the trip and is it possible you all missed the same $1 toll at the same time?

The note mentions "the referenced violation notice for a vehicle which was rented to you at the time of the violation."

Did they include a copy of an actual violation notice with each letter? The violation notice should indicate the date/time and location of the violation, such as a missed $1 toll at a particular toll collection machine (or using the open road tolling bypass lane on the Central Florida Greeneway SR-417 instead of pulling off to a toll booth lane).

If they included a violation notice, what does it say? And how does the date/time and location correspond to when and where you were driving?

We missed a toll when they changed the pay lanes on the 528 West. It now looks like an exit and you take that exit and go to the toll booths and back to the fast part of 528. We realized it when we saw no toll booth. Too late to back up. A month or so later got a $26.00 letter from National for missing the toll. We knew we missed it and paid. It was a dumb mistake on our part.
I actually did a post back then to warn people who have not been there in awhile of the new system to pay the toll on 528 West, going to Disney from the airport. It did list where, date and time on the violation sheet.

That's all I can think of also, you must have gone though the Sunpass/E-Pass tolls that's supposed to automatically deduct tolls from the transponder as you drive though it.

If it's a toll violation, you're lucky it wasn't in NH. Our violation fee is $25 for the $1.00 missed toll!

A lot of toll areas in Florida and also elsewhere have the cash lanes off to the side in an arrangement that looks like an exit ramp. The main lanes are for transponder (e.g. Sunpass) users only.

Get a receipt when paying your toll. Once inawhile the booth equipment misfires and you may get a toll nonpayment notice even when you did pay cash.

Hopefully she retyped it as the word 'persuant' [sic] appears in the body. Then again, I see a lot of correspondence transmitted without the benefit of spell check. YMMV.

Question: did you copy&paste the text of the letter, or did you retype it here?

I hope that the OP (gymstx) will post an update on this thread.

It would be good to know if there's a toll location that's not marked well, or if there's a glitch in the toll system, or if there's a glitch at Alamo, or if there's actually some sort of scam that pretends to be Alamo.

Exactly...this could be good information to get out there, if we would hear back from the OP.

Sorry it took so long to get back to you. As far as we know, we did not miss any tolls. I mean how can you drive through without paying. We know about the e pass lanes and we all knew that we could not use them.
The lady in Oklahoma that we talked to said we should have received receipts. Well how do you always get receipts if you throw quarters in the bucket?
We were all following each other, the violation occured the day we arrived and it said location was the airport. None of us can think of any tolls we missed, but what can we do? :confused3

Well, you just drive thru without paying is how you do it :).

Is that was the letter was for? Tolls? I dont think you've ever actually told us what it was for, the letter just says "referenced violation". Also, the original post, was that an actual copy and paste? With the fonts and style just like that or did you type it or have some different font selected?

I typed up the letter, directly from the letter we all received. The letter never stated that the violation was from a toll, it just said violation $1.00.
We just assumed it was a toll because what else would be a dollar. We all have ended up paying the fine, just wondered if anyone else has ever had this problem. Where we live we don't have tolls.

Are there attendants at all of the toll booths? Now, I'm going to get a receipt since we rent cars. If there is no attendant, how do you get a receipt?

I know next year when we go back to Florida, we will make sure we get receipts! Just don't know how to get one, when there isn't someone there.
