we are staying at the GF for the first time in a couple of weeks. Anyway, not knowing very much about the layout, should I possibly call ahead to request? I did look at a map, but still have no idea of the actual walk time/distance between things. TIA!

I don't know what room category you booked, but I don't think the GF is that big and spread out that any room/building is inconvenient. On our December 2010 trip, we had a GV in Big Pine Key, which is located right next to the courtyard pool. I thought we were convenient to the main building for shopping/dining/monorail, as well as to Gasparillas for CS meals. We also were a quick walk to the main beach pool. I hope you have a great trip.....the GF is a beautiful resort .

Healthy adults should be able t walk a mile in 20min or less. I'm over 60 and can do a 3 mile walk in an hour without a defibrillator unit. Don't fret the GF walks. Hope for the longest walk possible so you can totally soak up the BEAUTY of the place rain or shine. Get your money's worth out of it that way. Want exact distances? Use Google Maps with Sat view so you can use the display line key (e.g. One inch in the map might be 500 yards depending on zoom level). This hint should be on a STICKY NOTE on this BBS.

From Google map Sat view, the distance from the S door of the lobby to the boarding area on the pier is 900ft. That is a diagonal line across the GF resort and all other walks should fall below that. For an idea of how that ranks, a 0.1 mile walk is 528 ft. That takes 2 min at 3mph or 3min at 2mph. The four big Walmart Superstores in my area average 500ft wide. No big whoop unless you are hungry, exhausted, injured, sleep-deprived, in a baaaaad mood, things like that THEN the distance is 400 miles no matter what the measuring tape says. Somebody CARRY ME! Aw nuts left out coffee-deprived.
