OK, now I'm furious

It's gone midnight here and our car alarms' just gone off repeatedly. It wasn't nicked. Safe enough... then, whoever caused it moved on to other cars down our road. I presume it's some opportune thief as alarms don't just go off in order randomly. We went outside to try and catch them red handed (possibly foolishly) but by then they'd scarpered, hopefully without any car.

A rude awakening.

Sorry you were woken up, but glad they didn't actually get your car!

Either that, or your car has an issue. Mostly likely your car battery is about to go, the low voltage causes the alarm to go off.

Sounds like thieves looking for unlocked cars, maybe not to steal the actual car, but take items inside if found to be unlocked? We've had to make sure our cars are locked for awhile now in my neighborhood, as the park near us is a lovely drug hangout in the summer and the drug addicts go through cars looking for loose change and valuables to steal and sell.

We live in an inner ring suburb right next to a larger city. Car thefts and car breakins are a regular occurance and have been for awhile. It's unfortunate. They are also moving into the further suburbs more and more. We just make sure to keep nothing of value in our cars. Had a GPS stolen years ago and once had our window broken and some spare change taken. I was so annoyed about the window because it wasn't worth making an insurance claim. Most annoying theft was when we were out of town someone stole some wiring attached to our house, copper wire theft is always an issue but I never thought someone would take it from outside. Messed up the siding on the house which of course is no longer made. Sigh. Thieves make me so angry.

A friend's car alarm kept going off in the middle of the night so he finally disconnected it. Next day his new car stereo was gone. Seems the thief had access to the addresses of recent stereo buyers so he knew where to go.

We had an unrelated thing a month or so back. Someone took it upon themselves to deflate the tyres of all non-electric cars in the name of the Environment. They even left little notes calling us names for DARING us to run a gas-guzzler (even though we have a hybrid).

We live in the burbs just outside of Memphis, and crime is creeping in rapidly. We just installed an additional set of motion sensor cameras/lights for this reason. One night we returned home from scouts and found that our jeep interior lights were on. We hadn't driven it in a week, so it wasn't us. What we think happened is that we either startled someone in the act as our headlights turned onto our cove, or that they had just finished their search. Nothing appeared taken, but the lights were not on when we left the house.

This happens all the time in my neighborhood. The posts on social media always make me chuckle. If you leave your car unlocked 60% of the time it will be rifled through. I have had it happen on 4 occasions and it is my own fault but it is still so maddening especially the time when the person actually sorted through my coins and left all the pennies but took all the silver.
