A Southwest Airlines flight traveling from Tampa, Fla., to Las Vegas made an emergency landing at Louis Armstrong International Airport in Kenner on Friday when a passenger discovered what appeared to be a suspicious white substance in the bathroom.

The landing, between 11 a.m. and noon, turned out to be unnecessary, airline spokeswoman Marilee McInnis said. Hazardous-materials investigators determined the substance was dust from toilet paper, she said.
The aircraft, carrying 136 passengers, conducted what McInnis called a "remote park," coming to a halt on the runway some distance from the terminal. The plane remained on the ground for about an hour.

Passengers did not deplane, she said. After the investigation and refueling, it landed in Las Vegas about an hour late.

Ok, very strange, but better safe than sorry, I guess??

The day DH & I were leaving for WDW for a trip for just the two of us, our local high school had a lockdown, toxic something or other scare that made the news, choppers, coppers, you name it. Needless to say, two of our kids (one special ed) were there in the lockdown. Can you imagine the stress of all this going on as you're about to leave for vacation? It turned out the "toxic" substance was some sort of sewing needle with a radioactive coating on it ...if you swallowed millions of gallons, you might get a hiccup.

BTW, DS got SUSPENDED for calling me on his cell phone to assure me that they both were fine and that nothing was really going on. (I couldn't leave without knowing they were ok) Seriously, this was a SPECIAL REPORT on the news and my kid got suspended for letting me know he was alive. But I digress and I rant.

THAT is the most ridiculous thing I've heard today....I hope you're going to chat with someone about this...I would be TICKED......tell me, is it because of the "no cell phone use in school rule?"

That is ridiculous. We had a similar incident at work when the whole anthrax scare was going on. Someone called to report a suspicious substance in the women's bathroom. They sent out a big team of firefighters to investigate. It was determined that it was some kind of feminine powder I can't imagine how much money was wasted sending out that whole crew (and taking them away from a legit emergency) and for us to stop working for something so stupid. I mean it's powder...on the floor of a women's bathroom. Would you really think to call 911?
