I bought my dd a tankini bathing suit last summer, she wore it all summer, and it would still be useful this summer but i noticed the stitching around the edge of the top is coming apart.
should I use the warrenty and send it back?

in the past I have used this warrenty one time, i had a bathing suit that I used one summer and it faded all blotchy and weird looking so i sent it back and they sent me a gift card for the amount. if it had faded evenly i would have kept it, but it looked odd the way the material faded.
anyway, opinions on the kid bathing suit?

oh and to compare, dd has other bathing suits different brands that the stitching has not come apart on.

I would. They warranty their products in case this happens and I think the quality should have lasted more than just the summer.

I would. Last summer I bought 2 tugless tanks for my girls and both had uneven weird pilling on the bottoms (one of my girls has no behind at all so it wasn't stressed fabric from being tight across her bottom either) and the stiching was loose. They wore them 3 times and that's it.

Considing what I paid I was very unhappy. I took them back and got all my money because I have bought $2 walmart clearance bathing suits that didn't do that and lasted through a few summers between the two girls.

I also hate their water shoes. They claim to be quick dry and they shift out all the sand. No way. They took 3 days to dry (outside!) and they were full of sand quick. I took those back too.

In general I love lands end and their shirts and pants hold up really well, their boots are fabulous. But their summer stuff just doesn't do it for me :(.

Geez I never knew this about lands end. I bought my son a rash guard shirt and it really stretched out plus some parts of it kinda wore away, I don't know how to explain it? But it's like the color is gone and it's like a white ring? If I send it back do I dig out the original receipt and just ship it along? It wasn't cheap probably 25 bucks and he only wore it one swim season which in NE Ohio is probably 2 months. Maybe I should??

I'd say yes. It is not an issue with returning it because it doesn't fit properly, it is becasue it is falling apart. It should not be falling apart. One of the reasons many of us choose to purchase more expensive, time tested products is because we know we should get more out of them. I'd make the return.

I don't think I would. If she used it ALL SUMMER, then it got a lot use and that was probably more like normal wear and tear.

You can take it back to sears if your store has a lands end section.

I'm kinda feeling the same way. I wouldn't expect a swim suit to last more than one season anyway.

Just one season? I've been wearing the same swim suit for a good 3 or 4 years now and it still looks like new. Grant it -- I don't do much swimming in chlorine, etc so it has held up quite nicely. Considering their warranty - I would return it.

she wore it for 2 months, ocean, lake and pool swimming. if it wasn't falling apart she would wear it this summer too.
I already bought her 2 bathing suits at Target for this summer.

she had a speedo suit in the past that lasted 2 summers and would have longer if it had still fit.
I don't think any bathing suit we have ever had fell apart like this one.
hmmm. I am still thinking on this one. I don't think stitching coming all apart is normal wear and tear.

I have an LL Bean suit I bought last summer, I only wore it a handful of times and the hook for the strap broke, I am definitely sending that one back.

Let me qualify this: I don't expect a child's swim suit to last more than one season. I know I only wear my swimsuit a few times a year. My DD wears one nearly every day in the summer. But she's on swim team and she has a number of swimsuits that she trades off wearing (Speedos, Tyrs & her new favorite Ugly Suits from Dolfin) and no one suit gets super trashed.

Since Land's End's guarantee states:
The Lands' End guarantee has always been an unconditional one. It reads: "If you’re not satisfied with any item, simply return it to us at any time for an exchange or refund of its purchase price."

Since the OP is no longer satisfied she can return it. I'm just not sure she should.

::yes::

ok, I emailed customer service and told them what happened with the suit and I asked if it could be returned or if they consider that normal wear and tear for the suit to fall apart :)
I will let you know what they say.

You should use the warranty if your return meets the terms of the warranty. Who cares what everyone else thinks.

Last year while we were on vacation in Florida, her LE suit went bad, and this is the only one she had with her. So when I called LE to tell them what happened they asked how I washed it and I told them in the washing machine and through it in the dryer.... come to find out, I should not have put it in the dryer. I did not read the washing instructions, my fault. We were on our way to Disney the next day, and Lands End was so good they next day fedex me a suit at no charge to out hotel and it was there waiting for us when we arrived. But with that said, my girls are in there suits all summer, and I am lucking to get a summer out of them, they usually go through two of them, and I buy nice suits.

well here is the response i got from LE customer service

Thank you for contacting Lands' End.

We leave that judgement up to you. You know how you wore and cared for the suit. If you
feel the suit did not meet Lands' End quality standards you are welcome to return it for
an exchange or refund.

If I can be of further assistance, please let me know. Have a nice day.

My only thought on this is "doesn't anybody sew at all any more"? A little seam coming undone could be fixed in like a minute and save all the trouble of a return!

beezle you are right!! LOL, I had a sewing machine i could prob fix this myself. its the whole stitching along the bottom of the top, prob easy. but I don't sew, I don't have a sewing maching, I do have a needle and thread, but I doubt I could fix it, I don't sew.:rotfl:

I agree with this. I expect to get one summer's worth of wear out of my kids suits. They're in the pool 3-4 times a week, and that adds up to a lot of wear and tear. My suits last 2-3 summers, because I'm not as active.:rolleyes1

Last Summer I bought a pair of Beach Trekkers from LE. The laces broke and I was told they could not be replaced but if I still had my receipt, they would "work with me". I should bring the shoes back to Sears (still have them, haven't worn them since they were 3 months new). I haven't brought them yet because it is a 45 min drive to Sears.

I used to love Lands End clothes for their quality and durability but lately I have been disappointed. I have started to buy from LL Bean. Their prices are similar and the quality seems better.
