OK DisGeeks! What are the things that ONLY we Disers know?

See the Sticky Thread at the top of this board with the subject "New DISERS please read". It has TONS of great tips only those who frequent the boards would know.

In Epcot, near Japan, they do a demonstration of candy making. If your child(ren) are there early the lady will ask what animal they want her to make. She makes it for them, and then puts it in a bag for them to keep. DD12 and DD14 liked this one a lot!
Also in Epcot, ask the people at the kidcot stations and they will write your name/a message on the little paper die cuts they use to decorate the childrens' masks. They make a great little souvenier for big people, too!

Haircuts on main street....my DH even got his hair cut and got some green mickey sparklies added....thanks DIS'ers!

Don't drink the Beverly in Ice Station Cool/Club Cool..........but tell your group how good it is and have the camera ready when they try it.

I already (unfortunately) knew about beverly from the world of coca cola in atlanta, but my DFi didn't. Hilarious. I also like to just stand back and watch others try it. :teeth:

The best thing I have learned from the dis is that there are thousands of other crazy obsessed wdw fans out in this world and i'm not alone.
I also learned:
how to get into cindy's for breakfast :Pinkbounc
there are different savannahs at AKL
about WCC and the skillet and all the other great food i never knew about
and tons more :disrocks:

The only way to get to Disney's Wide World of Sports Complex by bus, is to go to Disney-MGM Studios and catch a bus from there.

Speaking of flags, I never knew about the flag lowering ceremony every day at MK - and that they pick a "veteran of the day" to assist the color guard - until I read about it on the DIS. I arranged to have my dad be the special veteran last year and it was the highlight of our trip. He received a free 5xt photo of the event, a special certificate and pin! Thanks, Disers!

I love this ceremony. How great for your dad-my eyes are filling up w/ emotion as I read your post.

Just keep reading the boards. There's also some wonderful books with all kinds of helpful information.

My favorite is The Walt Disney World Trivia book.

SnackyStacky:
Can I find this trivia book at Barnes & Nobles? Is that exact title.
Would love it! :earboy2:

we have just come back from our first ever trip to wdw (10 days at GF), and I can say this trip was made extra special thanks to all the members of the dis board who contribute all these wonderful tips: even my husband who made fun of the long hours I spent on this board had to admit all the planning was worth it!

Best tips I could have gotten only on the dis board:

DDE card savings on dining, PI, and valet parking,
restaurant reviews, what to order, which tables to request
family magical tours
best rooms at hotel
which guide books, which strollers, park strategies... I could go on and on...

Thanks to all of you!!

Ou own little discovery: Kids first in line for Poncahontas show get asked to participate and "help" poncahontas open the show

That is the title. It's with the guidebooks.

Go to the travel section, and then US Travel. I think Barnes & Noble sorts their books by state, so look for Florida.

Here's a link to the book on B&N online.

Here's some things I thought of:

1. How to stay at a deluxe resort for about $50-60 per night (for the next 48 years!) and save money on other things at the same time!

2. That there are certain restaurants you just have to try, and others you should avoid!

3. That there is an entire community here made up of some really great and helpful folks willing to share their Disney knowledge.

4. That there are other people out there JUST like us that enjoy just about anything Disney. Ie.... that the Dis is a place where everyone "Get's it!".

The first child in the Christmas Shoppe in Liberty Square gets to decorate the Christmas tree in the store and have their name on the "This tree decorated by ...." for the entire day. And, best of all, the child gets a free Mickey head ball ornament with their name printed on it and a Magical Moments certificate

(DD got to do this in 2002 ..... hope they still do it!)

We were just there last week & I thought about the tree decorating as we passed the shop, but DD wanted to try for the paintbrush at Tom Sawyer's Island (she found one :) ), so we didn't go in. Later that afternoon we went in to see the tree, and it wasn't decorated, so we asked if they didn't do it anymore, or if no one had asked to do it. The answer was kind of vague - they only do it when the store isn't busy. We wondered if that meant they wouldn't have done it at all that day, or if someone had gotten there earlier they could have done it - but the CM simply repeated (twice) that it's only done when the store isn't busy.

Has anyone done this recently (or seen that the tree had been decorated)?

There's so much to learn! What's a DDE card? Thanks. -John

Edit - Never mind. Found it. Disney Dining Experience - 20% off for $50 per year, only available to Florida reesidents and Annual Pass holders.

Haven't read thru this but the DIS has helped me learn....

about passholder benefits
renting DVC points
getting early breakfast ADR's to get inside the park before it opens.
when to go and not go to certain parks
the backway out of Main Street on crowded nights
hidden mickey's
pin collecting (we don't do this yet but never heard of it until here)
when and where to see the characters
pirate cruises for kids
how to get a brand new Pal Mickey for $13
how to do 2 room only rates before and after packages to save money.
how great the Neverland Club is....

That is all off the top of my head - sorry if I repeated some.

This thread has been very interesting. Oh no I think I am becoming one of you. Anyway I am an accountant so you have to expalin #1 above?????? I will wait for the answers to some of the others, but cash is cash.

What's the neverland club and how do you get better rates by booking room only rates before and after a package?

I would also like to know how to get a delux room for $50.00-$60.00 a night. Is it really possible??? For those asking about Gertie the dinosaur (it's the ice cream stand in MGM) I don't know if there is a secret related to it but I do know some history about it. There was a popular animator back in the early 1900's named Windsor McCay and he was the creator of Gertie the Dinosaur as well as a popular comic strip called "Little Nemo". Mr. McCay is credited with giving Walt Disney his start (I'm not sure if it was directly or indirectly) but he was an inspiration to Walt Disney and so I would believe that ice cream stand is some kind of tribute to Windsor McCay. :rose:

Explaining the significance of 'Gertie', understanding fastpass properly (why do so many people not use it?) explaining the detail on the rides such as the chess scene in POTC, oooh theres too many to mention

We went through POTC twice to try to find the chess game, any clues where it is (the book says in the queue sp?)? TIA!

As you are going through the right hand queue (it has to be the right hand side, not the left hand side, as you pass through the turnstyles) you will see a window with bars on it. Look through the window and you'll be looking down on the chess game. It's just before you turn a corner, and there is another window when you turn the corner that looks down into the same room.

was the chess game a secret? We've looked at that window/room for many years.....:)
