OK, DIS doctors, would you call after-hours for this?

Well, DIS-orthodontists, really. ;)

I just noticed a bracket popped off one of dd's teeth. It worries me because it happens to be the tooth that was nearly blocked out behind some other teeth, the tooth that they had to make room for, then pull forward. It was almost in line with the others when I last looked, now it's behind again and the gap is too small for it again.

Dd insists this just happened, though I don't know if I believe that. (She didn't notice it and point it out to me, I happened to notice as she was talking it didn't look right).

If it just happened and the teeth have already moved this far in maybe 8 hours or so, I hate to wait till Monday to fix it -- by then it'll be back to where we started 8 months ago! :scared1:

But it feels so silly to call the orthodontist at home on the weekend, too!

WWYD?

Thanks!

I'd wait until Monday. That is NOT really an orthodontic emergency. If it's moved THAT much it is likely that the bracket has been broken for a while, and your daughter just didn't tell you.

As long as she is not in pain and is still able to eat and drink normally...just call on Monday. They will fix it and eventually the tooth will be where it needs to be again.

Good luck!

not an emergency. chances are they will just remove the bracket and wait until monday to fix it anyway.

You are probably right. My dd is not the most observant girl you'll meet :rotfl:, though how she could've missed that flossing her teeth, I'll never know! :sad2:

Thank you both! I'll wait until Monday.

Yep - I agree with the other posters...actually at my DD's orthodontist - they the parents right up front that a broken bracket is NOT an emergency. If there is a broken bracket with wires that are poking into her cheek or gums that is causing bleeding etc, that is when you need to call.

My DD just got her braces off last month WooHoo!

The broken bracket appointments are the worst - because they NEVER happen when it is convenient for the parents or the kids. Our Ortho is 45 minutes away from school, so a broken bracket takes: 15min for me to get from work to school, 45 minutes to get from school to the ortho, maybe 30 minutes to get it fixed, 45 minutes back to school, and 15 minutes back to work. So - 2 1/2 hours of "lost work time" for a broken bracket. My boss has never had kids...so he isn't always the most sympathetic when this stuff comes up.
