Ok, I'm a dad that sold all of my sons baby stuff years ago and were gearing up for another at the end of the year.

My big stuff list so far:
1. crib
2. paknplay
3. stroller
4. car seat
5. highchair
6. maybe a bassinet our son didn't have one but would have grown out of it within the month.

Little stuff list:
1. diaper bag
2. bottles
3. Binkies
4. Clothes of course

I know I'm leaving stuff off the lists, but what else can you add to it?

We gotta start planing now cuz I didn't like running around and not having what I need.

Thanks!

We've added baby bath stuff, swing, bouncy thingy, anything else?

Diapers! Wipes!
Stuff for the bath (you could get a baby tub, or just bath in the kitchen sink)
Carseat (did you say that already?)
Breast Pump if your wife will breast feed, and a Boppy pillow (lots of formula if she doean't breastfeed, so that would be good to stock up)

For your wife :goodvibes :goodvibes
--gift certificate for a prenatal massage and a pedicure (not necessary, but would be very appreciated!)
--Tucks and heavy pads for after the hospital
--Maybe go to "Let's Dish" and make up some freeze ahead meals for later in pregnancy or after baby comes home

CONGRATS!
What a great dad and husband you are! :)

Oh! I forgot--the best crib sheets come from cloud and stars .com They are called "zip around sheets". You put the base on the mattress and the top zips off when you need to change it! Very awesome for those 3 am bedding changes, as you can do it practically in your sleep and don't have to lift the mattress up each time! :cool1:

I have 1 base, 1 rubber sheet and 3 top zip sheets (1 for bed, 1 for closet and 1 for wash :laundy: ) and these are all I have needed thru 2 babies! :thumbsup2

BTW--these are the best sheets for SIDS prevention, too :thumbsup2

swing, bouncer, jumperoo, exersaucer, snuggli,

personally I'd wait to buy some of the stuff, you wont need it for at least a few months.. your just gonna be storing stuff like the highchair jumperoo, exersaucer

You may want to look into getting a changing table, swing, bouncing seat, and you can never have enough diapers and wipes; speaking of wipes, a wipe warmer is a nice thing to have too!

Good Luck & Congrads.!!!!!! Babies truely are a miracle!

Can you double check that website, please? Those sound great and I can't get it to work!

Congrats!!

Wipes Wipes and MORE Wipes!! I stocked up on a ton when I found a good sale at CVS, but I'm going through my supply fast! I guess it doesn't help that I use like 10 wipes each time she poops LOL. She's almost 2 weeks old and I've went through four tubs already!!

Diapers are good to stock up on as well if you get a good sale. I stocked up on sizes 1 and 2, but not enough newborn (she is little), so I'm having to buy those now.

A lot of people say skip the changing table, as they don't use it, but I use mine all of the time to change her. It's also a great place to store all the stuff.

A swing is a good thing to have. I bought a full size and a travel size and am only using the travel size since it takes up such little space. I'll probably ebay or Craigs List the full size one.

Also a play thing where the baby can lay down and look up at that plays music, lights, etc. Emma loves her Fisher Price Ocean Wonders Rockin Aquarium Gym.

You could always get a pack n play that has the bassinet on top.

Burp cloths - I use the cloth diapers that come like 12 in a pack. Can't ever have too many of them!!

Bibs

Receiving Blankets for swaddling

Sleep sacks

Diaper Pal. I don't have one but realized I should get one because I'm getting sick of putting the smelly diapers into grocery bags and tying them up.

We never used the newborn size. We received a free pack and had to give em away.

My wife just found out what I was doing here and told me about this, they didn't have em 8 yrs ago with my son. besides we got the 20.00 packnplay from a friend that was 100 acre wood.

Good Luck & Congrats.!!!!!! Babies truly are a miracle!

Yes they are. This one will truly be a miracle, this is pregnancy 4, 1 son and 2 miscarriages. We didn't even know if we could conceive again especially since we've both had weight reduction surgeries.

But low and behold, she starts on zinc and some really good vitamins for a skin condition and she gets pregnant without trying. And as long as she makes it to June we should be in the clear, I'm jumping on the band wagon EARLY as a big confidence boost.

Thanks for all the ideas!

Chris

And I second the sleep sack! Also, swaddling blankets with built in velcro.

I agree you don't need the bassinet if you have the pack n play. Just get the sleep positioner to keep the baby in place while sleeping and you're good to go!

I also really like the Mighty Tite seat belt positioner to get the base really tight in my car. Otherwise, it always fell at an angle with the baby inside!

Pixie Dust pixiedust: and prayers to you and your wife on your joyous pregnancy!

Chris,

Congrats to you and the family. I have all of these items maked for a garage sale at the end of the month. My brother and DSIL are having their first in May and they don't want any of this stuff because they think "they don't need it" so I told them I am going to yard sale it cuz I am not hanging on to it till they do need it. I've got 3 walkers, 2 high chair and mulitple of other because my aunt and I had babies at the same time so she dumped her stuff off on me and I've just been hanging on to it. But alas it's time to part with these thing that I am not going to use again.

We saw these today they would have been great back when we had our son.

So what do you think shipping to OK would be??? :thumbsup2

Our daughters are nearly 8 years apart. A lot changed in 8 years, who knew? 2 things I'm glad I bought for dd2: Active Baby Bjorn Carrier--this worked great at WDW when you have to park the stroller, but still have a wait in line, and the Fisher Price Aquarium thingy you hang on the side of the crib. It has lights and soft music for bedtime. She loves this.

I never bought a changing table. I just put a changing cushion and mat on top of her dresser.

Also, you may need one of those safety-proofing kits for the house. Lastly, buy some infant's Tylenol drops. You definitely want this on hand for teething, little fevers, etc.

Congratulations and best wishes!:goodvibes

I saw a version of these on clearence at Toys R Us today for 19.99

First of all, CONGRATULATIONS!!!:cloud9:

Big stuff:
Can't think of anything that hasn't been mentioned.

On the changing table, we went through 4 kids without one, got one for a gift for the fifth one and it really made it much easier on my back because I had such a big baby and was sore from childbirth.

Little stuff:
fingernail clippers
nightlight
baby book/photo album
snugli or something like that (optional of course)
thingy for the dishwasher to hold bottle nipples (optional, but I always found this useful, actually I still use mine for little things) or a bottlebrush
books, it's never too early to start reading to them

diaper genie, diaper genie, diaper genie! Did I mention diaper genie? Also, refills (which are on sale this week at CVS as part of the free stroller deal).

Along those lines, you can collect coupons and start watching sales for powder, baby wash, butt cream, baby food, cereal, diapers and wipes.

Just wanted to chime in about loose powder. You aren't supposed to use it, as it can get into the baby's lungs. They do make roll on baby powder now though ;)

I think it's okay if it's cornstarch powder.

BTW, summerrluvv, congrats on your new little one, she's adorable.

I use cornstarch powder or Huggies liquid powder. I didn't think they still sold the dangerous talcum powder for babies.

Your #1 purchase should be the book entitled BABY BARGAINS by Denise and Alan Fields. They will give you the real scoop on what is essential vs "nice to have". They also rate most baby products. Their information was invaluable because if you go to a baby store you will walk away thinking you need everything!

We have 4 yr old twins. We never had a wipes warmer, and our children survived. We used Costco wipes and never had any problems. As a matter of fact, we never had diaper rash once!

We used the Diaper Champ vs the Diaper Genie. Still using it, to be honest, because DS uses a pull up at night. Never detected any smell, and it uses plain old plastic grocery bags instead of pricey bag refills.

Another item we could not have lived without, and still use, is a white noise machine - Conair - about $14 at Walmart. Blocks out household noise so you won't feel you have to tip toe around.

As far as some of the nice to haves - swings, exersaucers, etc. - look for a children's consignment shop. They are only used for a short period of time, if at all. Some kids don't like them!

Get the baby on a schedule from day one. Avoid the "family bed" idea. And Good luck!
