Ok, Baby Stuff Lists!

Well, I haven't had the baby yet, so my advice probably isn't really helpful. :)

If you're looking at baby carriers (Snugli, BabyBjorn, etc), go to Babies R Us and try them on. We were planning on getting a Snugli until we found out it wouldn't fit my husband, and wasn't too comfy on me. We ended up getting a Kelty Kangaroo off Ebay - fits both of us really well.

As far as diapers, we have a few packages of the newborn ones, and after that, I'm planning on using cloth diapers. So we bought a bunch of different ones, but I shouldn't need to buy diapers again for a few months.

Definitely yard sale and see what other friends who had kids recently have for leftovers. We got our baby swing from a friend, and pack n play from a cousin.

Other than that, we're planning on seeing how this goes, and then picking up stuff as we find we need it.

Congrats on the baby! :)

If you have a low dresser, you can always put a changing pad on it instead of buying a chnaging table. That's what we have (a table would have taken up valuable space in the already small room)

For a stroller, I would suggest getting a BOB www.bobtrailers.com
We have the revolution and it's great. We bought the carseat adapter and our DS loves it. It's got shocks and we even took it on a small hike in the mountains and it did great.

Here are some other things that I've found are good-
1. A rocking glider chair in the baby's room
2. iCrib- you can hook up an ipod to it
3. Some kind of booty creme (desitin, boudreaux's butt paste, whatever kind you want)
4. If your wife will be nursing- Lansinoh and also gel pads for her nips
5. Swaddle me blankets- we have a whoel bunch in fleece, cotton, and flannel they are awesome!

6. quilted multi-use pads- we use these both on the changing pad and in the crib. Instea dof having to change the changing pad cover or the crub bedding when DS spits up or "has an accident" we can just change the multi use pad

I'll 2nd the use of cloth diapers for burp cloths/spit rags. Get way more than you think you will need because they get used up fast (at least by Ds) :)
If I think of anything else I'll add more

ETA- if you want more than just the typical lullabies for your new baby, there is a company (baby rock records) that makes lullaby renditions of rock/pop music. They have about 20 to choose from right now. We have Metallica, Tool, Smashing Pumpkins, Bjork, The Cure, Radiohead and a couple of more-

This was awsome!

I'd encourage you to get your infant car seat/bases early and call your local police/fire department to find out who does car seat installs. One of the best things you can do for your new baby is to have the car seat properly installed and for you and your wife to learn how to use it correctly!

Congrats!

I know, they are really expensive, plus you have to get everything separately!

If you are looking for a travel system, we were given a Graco travel system as a gift (which is really good too, plus it comes with the carseat- we have the Graco Quattro G galore) but we needed something more rugged to go on trails since we go to the mountains a lot.

My baby hates the sling, so unlike some I wouldn't suggest one, but many babies do like them. We ended up getting a baby bjorn and he goes right to sleep in it. We got the Bjorn Active because it has back support. It's also expensive though at $120.

The thing that surprised me so much is just how expensive baby stuff is for stuff that you really don't get that much use out of in the long run.

Two Words: BABY SHOWER

Are you sure you aren't having one? I had one with each of my three kids. Given the age difference between your kids and the fact you got rid of everything, I wouldn't be surpised if someone planned one for you.

I wouldn't buy too much stuff because you may not need it all.

I don't know how old your ds is but with my 1st child I had a snugli & I never used it because she was it & I plopped her in the stroller/car seat stroller system.

When I had my 2nd I finally used the carrier & it was a snugli & even though he was small it hurt my back but I needed it to be hands free for my 2 1/2 yo.

When I had my 3rd (she is almost 14 mo), I got a Bjorn Active & I used it practically every day in the summer so I got my money's worth out of it.

Then I got a Joovy sit & stand & I love it & use that all the time.

Oh but my point is, if your son is older-aka doesn't run in a road, run away from you, doesn't need to hold your hand then I wouldn't get one & if you did want one, wait until the baby is born & then go to the store to try on the slings & carriers to see which one is comfortable. They are all comfortable with out a baby in them & some won't take a baby until they are 8 lbs & mine were all born in the 6 lb range so I had some time.

I got a diaper genie for my shower with my first & returned it. I have heard you have to really clean them good & spray them good to make sure there is no odor & I know a few people who have had an odorless genie. We just put the poopie diapers in plastic bags but then we found the blue scented bags at BRU/TRU & we use them now (although I now am able to flush it down the toilet). So I for one have survived 3 kids with out a diaper genie but that is me.

I loved my exersaucer (sniff, sniff, I just sold it on Craigslist). But the babies didn't start using it until they were about 4 months old.

I loved my bouncy seat & it was one of the only ways I was able to take a shower.

Get a few sets of crib sheets because poop & puke do happen & you don't want to be with out a clean set when it is bed/nap time.

I prefer the sleeper sacks for bed time only because it makes diaper changes so much easier in the middle of the night when you are so tired & can't see because the light is off, you just unzip, change & hope you don't get pee'd on & then zip back up.

I nursed all my kids but I did buy a small electric pump which I used on day after my milk came in for some relief. I also produce alot of milk & the breast pads just don't cut it for me so I had to get these plastic shells by Avent to collect the milk on one side as I nursed on the other (think about an extra ounce came out of the side that was not being nursed on).

Even thought he mom says no on the rocker glider I would love one. We didn't get one with our first because according to my dh we were only having one kid (I knew better) & well they were too pricey for us since we were just married too. But every time we went into BRU I said "you know we should of gotten one of these since we now have 3 kids". And I hear "yep, I know".

cloth diapers for spit ups/over the shoulder

I had a swing but gave it away since my oldest rarely used it as did my 2nd & we were done after him but along came baby #3 but I doubt she would of used it either. But the person I gave it too said it was a life saver & she was able to get things done because of it since it kept her son quiet.

Hospitals have the Nuk pacifiers (or at least the few I have been in CT do) & they are free so I always take 2 as a just in case last resort.

I didn't buy a pack n play because we never go anywhere where we need one plus my mother has one at her house & my sister gave me hers. But I have used my sisters 2 times. And my house isn't that big that I need a pack n play in one room for the baby to sleep in because I just took the baby up to his/her room/crib.

Not baby related, but make meals & freeze them, lots of them.

Get a good toy that has music & lights that the baby can lay on the floor with & then as he/she gets bigger it grows with them.

Onsies, get lots along with socks because poop travels more then you realize & a sock can get in the way rather quickly.

I have survived with out a wipe warmer, my hands & legs work fine for that.

I don't carry a diaper bag anymore. I just keep a stack of diapers & wipes in my car & replenish as needed but I do take a bag with extra clothes, etc...depending on where we are going.

I am sure there is more stuff but my kids keep bothering me so I can't think.

I said no glider rocker this time too, but after she was born, I realized it's so much more comfy to sit and rock to feed her rather than sitting on the couch or on the floor. I got one at Toys R Us, it's the Jardine glider rocker with the ottomon in cherry withoff white cushions and it was only $129.00 for both. It's on the babies r us website, but it's carried at Toys R Us and is so much cheaper than most I've seen.
