...to have an abortion.

House Bill 228

Sponsored by Ohio Rep. Tom Brinkman, R- Mount Lookout, and 16 other representatives.

Make it illegal for a woman to have an abortion and for her to travel across state lines for an abortion.

Anyone involved in coordinating an abortion would face penalties as well.

Source: Ohio Laws, Acts and Legislation.

Now, that I just don't understand. I believe prostitution is legal in NV (or at least parts of it). Does that mean anyone who doesn't live there should be prosecuted?

Thank you for posting this!!

Just another reason I need to move out of this state.. perhaps even this country!!

I'm confused as to why everyone is telling you to stop?

This is a really important topic that all Ohioans, and all Americans, actually, deserve to know, no matter how you feel on the subject.

Thanks again, Jodifla... I just signed a petition sent to my representatives on the issue.

I believe there have been numerous threads posted by jodifla on subjects like this - that's why people are saying that it's getting old.

Look here:
Salon magazine talks about the Battle to Ban Birth Control
More from the war on birth control!
More laws designed to make the average teenager a criminal!
Contraception rights to come up during ALito hearings: Wall Street Journal
Birth control war update: Is Bush against birth control for married women?
The war against birth control pills...coming to a pharmacy near you?
^^^I only checked the first page of threads started by jodifla.

You do realize that abortion is legal within the state of Ohio, right?

Why would someone cross state lines to have something done that's legal within their own state? :confused3 :confused3 :rolleyes1 :rolleyes1

According to the original post, the bill would make it illegal. I doubt the not crossing state lines would pass through an even conservative supreme court. I think this issue may backfire on Republicans if they try to push it too far.

Let's just say that Ohio somehow makes abortion illegal in the state and this bill passes. How could it possibly be enforced?

Sorry, I skimmed over the OP.

Right now, it's a moot point -- the bill isn't even expected to get a debate in the House, so it's way away from even coming up for a vote.

Actually, I applaud people like Jodi that care enough to keep trying to draw interest to subjects they are passionate about. The ones that I think should be focusing on "new hobbies" are the people too disengaged to be bothered by issues that don't affect them directly.

well i dont know about the other threads but this one is acutally good
if you live in a state that bans abortion you cant make it illegal to go to another state
the feds keep saying they want the states to make the laws
but this is crazy that is bascially banning abortion from anyone who luives in that state
im sure if it passes then it will be challenged incourt

There's a fine line between passion and obsession. :)

Jodi - Thank you very much for posting this. I am getting so tired of people feeling they can decide these things for us.

As far as the other posters - Why do you feel the need to come down on this one poster? Ok, so this is something the OP is passionate about. She's not the only one. There are quite a few people here who are passionate about one thing or another whether it be GLBT/ religion/ politics, and they are constantly bringing it up in posts. Why don't you go jump down their throats? If you don't want to read what the OP is saying then don't open their threads anymore. It really isn't that hard.
