Ohio bill would make women felons if they cross state lines...

Let's just say that Ohio somehow makes abortion illegal in the state and this bill passes. How could it possibly be enforced?

The odds would be slim, but if something went wrong post-procedure and the woman was forced to go into the emergency room and based on exam it as apparent that she'd had an abortion, it'd be my guess that legally the hospital would have to report her to authorities.

Not trying to fuel the debate, just trying to give an answer.

I believe there have been numerous threads posted by jodifla on subjects like this - that's why people are saying that it's getting old.

Look here:
***many threads on same subject***.

Yeah - but it's something she's passionate about *shrug*

I'd be the starter of plenty of makeup / perfume and hair threads if I got any response from them.

Actually, I applaud people like Jodi that care enough to keep trying to draw interest to subjects they are passionate about. The ones that I think should be focusing on "new hobbies" are the people too disengaged to be bothered by issues that don't affect them directly.

WOW! Did you-know-what just freeze over???

Im AGREEING with the person who I argued so intensely with on political threads?!?!? WHAT IS GOING ON!?!?!?

I agree with you - I said to a co-worker, whom I share absolutely ZERO political views with, it was nice to see 'someone' involved and informed about the world around us - even if it was the wrong view. <<<hehehehe>>>>

No kidding.

There's that old DIS saying: if you don't like the thread, don't read it.

However, freedom of speech trumps your old DIS saying.

My question is... if you don't like some posts on a thread, why bother responding about those posts? Why not just ignore them instead of calling attention to them?

I'm confused as to why everyone is telling you to stop?

This is a really important topic that all Ohioans, and all Americans, actually, deserve to know, no matter how you feel on the subject.

Thanks again, Jodifla... I just signed a petition sent to my representatives on the issue.

Be sure to update your passport so when you arrive at the state line, you have your documents in hand. :rotfl2:

Good for jodifla for posting!! Because of her I have been made aware of some things I should be concerned about as a pro-choice, childbearing aged woman.

That's how they'll enforce it! "So, Ma'am can you tell me why you're coming into Illinois today?" Oh gosh. I don't whether to laugh or worry.

Thanks curiouser- that makes sense.:)

*note* I am not trying to fuel a debate either or make any sort of comment on the frequency of the OP's posting of this subject. I was just curious ;)

I agree! No one made me click on this thread! Thanks jodifla, it's nice to see someone else who's as "obsessed" with reproductive rights as I am!!

What would also likely happen is that the anti-abortion protesters would take pictures of the women who enter abortion clinics of neighboring states, and the license plates of the cars they arrive in. Then the people could quickly be tracked down and prosecuted if they were from Ohio.

Protesters have done this around the country to track down women who've gone to clinics, then mail them threatening letters and all their neighbors letters that the woman at such and such address had an abortion.

Restricting inter-state travel is illegal according to the US Constitution so there is no way this bill, if passed, will stand up against a Supreme Court review.

Is it possible that the OP is mistaken? :confused3

Abortion isn't illegal in Ohio. Why would they pass a law saying women can't circumvent a law that doesn't exist??

I haven't heard anything about it, and I live in Ohio. I don't watch local news, but usually hear about important Ohio stuff from others. Maybe I just missed it...

The bill would make abortion illegal also in that state, just like South Dakota is trying to do. It hasn't been voted on yet. It's meant as a direct challenge to Roe v. Wade. I'll find the link to the stories that are being written about it in Ohio newspapers and post it.
