O'hana? Really? Really?! SERIOUSLY?!!!

For all intensive purposes, walla and voila are the same thing. :)

Prolly…

(I had the darnedest time getting autocorrect to take "prolly;" it took 5 tries- and then gave me a hard time when including it in the parenthetical statement!)

Here's another one for ya.... Irregardless

Irregardless I defiantly think that people need to be more Pacific about the time they plan they're ressies at O'Hana's

Dang.... you got to it before I had a chance!

Last time I was at O'Hannahs, their was too many family's in line and we couldn't keep on wading, so we had to loose our place in line and go back to our hotel... ya know, the Disney one called Hard Rock Hotel. Tomorrow were going to the other Disney, the one where they gots Harry Potter!

NO they are not. The spelling of Walla was created by illiterate Americans who spelled it phonetically.

Do you spell Carpe Diem wrong? How about other foreign words appropriated into English language like ad nauseam, caveat emptor, mea culpa, pro bono?

Could be wrong, but I think you missed the joke.

I can read through most and not bat an eye but I really hate when people type "dinning" in their title. Isn't language rules taught in school any more? Long vowel sound is typically followed by ONE consonent.

I have a friend that I love dearly but she uses "supposably" about 5 times in every conversation we have and I want to stab my ears! I just cannot bring myself to tell her that supposably is not a word!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Yes. its on purpose. It is.

Oh! I told you guys this was a peeve (meaning no sense of humor about it) of mine!

Made worse by sitting through 3 years of high school French, and not remembering much more than the word Voilà. :p (And Googling to make sure the accent is going in the right direction. :upsidedow) Hey, when you remember one French word from 3 years, it means a lot. :lmao:

How many verbs can you still conjugate? I think that's all we did in my first 3 or 4 years of HS french!

I found it funny that a pet peeve was spelling it "viola".
I do speak french and I'll actually spell and say "viola" just for fun.

I never dreamed someone would actually do it in error!

LOL! I'll let this slip if you promise to always write "for all intents and purposes." And while we're at it, remember that things should pass muster, not pass the mustard. Those are the ones which irritate me the most.

Not isn't - aren't, as you used the plural 'rules'?

This is a pet-peeve of mine too, and you see and hear it all the time, even from professional writers.

For example, people will say things like, "There's forks and knives on the table" when it should be, "There are forks and knives on the table." Or, "There's two cars in the driveway", instead of, "There are two cars in the driveway".

I teach high school English.

I've learned how to become very, very zen about errors like these. I have also learned how to politely remind students that they're using the wrong word.

The worst part, though, is that most of these students KNOW they're using the wrong word or phrase. I can point it out to them and they'll tell me "Oh, I knew that."

:rolleyes2
