We are very excited about staying at the Poly in October. I have booked all 3 of these for dinner: 'Ohana, Kona Cafe and the Spirit of Aloha show. I guess in part I really want to experience all that the Poly has to offer and in addition I love the convenience of not having to travel to get to dinner!

My question is whether or not the food choices are redundant. Will we get tired of eating similar foods by choosing all 3 of these restaurants?

Thanks in advance for your insight!

Hi,

Go here to see the menus for all of those restaurants:

...then never mind what people on the DIS think! If you want to experience the Poly and not have to travel to dinner, and the menus appeal to you, do what you want! It's your vacation!

Thanks, Bob! I did go check out the menus like you suggested and I guess it is just hard to tell. Seems like Kona and 'Ohana both serve sticky wings, shrimp, steak . . .

To illustrate my question: My family enjoys Mexican food, but we would not want to eat at 3 different Mexican restaurants all in the same week no matter if they offered slightly different menus . . .

However, given that these restaurants are all at the same hotel, I am thinking they may all be very different from the other . . . but I'm not sure. That's where I am hoping my Dis-friends will come to the rescue!

The food at Kona and ohana are different. While the food at ohana is family style and served in an "all you care to eat" method, the food at Kona is menu based and plated. Definitely different items to be had. The food at the luau is bbq style, I believe, so that will be completely different. My family and I are eating at all three during our upcoming stay at the Poly - I think it will be great to eat at the resort several nights during our stay.

Enjoy!

Thanks, Erin. I can see from your signature that you too have a little one, not quite in kindergarten. I got scared off from taking our youngest 2 (DS9 and DS18months) to the fancier establishments and think a few nights of eating at the hotel will mean less hassles, less transitions for them.

I just don't want the cuisine to be monotonous. Glad to hear you are planning the same thing! Thanks for the input.

Sounds like a good plan to me! We are doing Ohana, Kona, & SoA dinners too! :thumbsup2 Not to mention the Ohana Lilo & Stitch breakfast! :stitch2:

You'll be fine with your choices. Kona and Ohana's are really quite different. They are both great choices. We have eaten at Kona's for years and it's always a great meal. We ate at Ohana's for the first time on our last trip and were sooo impressed. We can't believe that we hadn't tried it sooner. The food at Spirit of Aloha isn't on our favorites list, but the overall experience of dinner and a show was enjoyable.

Just back less than 2 weeks ago from our trip (6/22 to 7/2). We (DW, DD3 and DD5) LOVED the Poly (we didn't stay there but we ate at Ohana Breakfast, Ohana Dinner, Kona Cafe Breakfast, Kona Cafe Dinner, and then Kona Cafe Dinner again!). Maybe we'll try Spirit of Aloha show on our next trip!

In my opinion, the cuisine did not seem monotonous. The only similar items were the sticky wings (which were delicious!).

My recommendations:

Kona Cafe:
Appetizer: Crab Cakes - 3 crabcake lumps shaped like volcanos.
Sticky Wings - sticky but tasty!
Entree: Beef Teriyaki

Ohana:
The Fried Wontons with peanut sauce is awesome!
The shrimp appetizer is one of the tastiest!
Mesquite Grilled Turkey was delicious.
Finally, the Bread Pudding. Yummy!

Have fun on your trip!

Thanks so much for your opinions. I was worried about doing all three in the same week, but based on what y'all have said I think we will be fine!

We are sooooo looking forward to this trip!
