Oh no! Jury summons date of trip(UPDATED)

Sounds like you can get it excused. I was actually called the day I was to be induced for labor with ds. Needless to say they were more than willing to excuse!! :)

Thanks for starting this thread... my daughter, 20, is supposed to go in on August 8th. Our vacation (with reservations at BCV and airfare bought months out) starts August 14. She sent back the top of her letter already and I had just assumed she could take the information with her on the 8th. Is that a bad idea? Or should she call and explain before that time?
Nancy :listen:

That's a bad idea. (Like really bad, she might not get let off and if she doesn't show its contempt of court, go to jail sort of bad). She needs to call before hand and let them know she needs to reschedule.

I work for local Court Administration, although not directly in the Jury Commission. They are willing to accomodate as long as you are not taking advantage. If you have a legit reason (ie planned vacation, teachers and students during the school yr, etc), they will work with you and try to find a time to schedule you in. If you "happen" to have a conflict more than once or twice, you could get in trouble. In the OP's particular situation, I know at least in Illinois, your sister would almost certainly be allowed to resceduled. Sending some pixie dust your way....... :wizard:

I am not sure about your state, but here in CT, you are able to reschedule for up to 1 year away from your original date.

If you DO reschedule, they suggest not making it for exactly a year, so that if something happens, you still have wiggle room.

I'm in agreement with everyone else, you should have no problem with being excused. On the very off chance, did you buy trip insurance? I remember that was one specific reason for coverage.
Be sure that you get officially excused. My MIL  just wrote a letter and mailed it. Didn't check back or anything. Guess what? The police came to her house with some sort of citation! (That was in West Virginia)

Just a bump so anyone who is interested can read my update

GatorKate - so where is your update? No problem, right?

I had added the update to my original post, but I think that wasn't easy to find, so I moved it. Here it is...

*UPDATE*

Good news! My sis was able to change her jury date, so trip is on. They didn't need proof of our plans but required her to pick a specific date for her rescheduled appearance. What a relief. Many thanks to all who replied.
