Of course this happens to me... I get married on Saturday. THIS SATURDAY!!! (Disneymoon on the 9th) And, I have completely lost my voice.

Does anyone have any good ideas on how I can get it back?

I got a cold on Friday, lost my voice on Sunday and it is still gone??? :confused3 :sad2:

First thing I would say to do is not to talk.. AT ALL unless you absoluetly have to because you can strain it furter. Try drinking lots of hot liquids.... tea with honey and lemon works very well for this.

The exact same thing happened to my sister when she got married, so I can imagine how you are feeling since I saw her go through the same thing. Do not talk if you can, ask your DF or a member of your bridal party to help you make last minute calls and stuff. Suck on a lemon, i know it sounds gross, but I find it helps. Hot tea with honey and lemon is good idea too. But the best thing is to rest and try not to get too stressed out its just gonna make the healing processs longer. I know its easier said then done, but I do hope you feel better by saturday :) I find that when I lose my voice it usually comes back within a few days. Good luck, keep us updated.

As nasty as this sounds, gargle warm salt water every few hours - I lost my voice before a show and it did the trick. The hot tea with honey & lemon is also a favorite remedy among performers.

As others have said, try not to talk. Our music director used to tell us to have hotwater with honey and lemon -- it worked very well and you don't have the added caffeine. Rest as much as you can -- hope everything works out well.

As others have said, do not speak, gargle with warm salt water every 2-3 hours, drink warm liquids, and also a good hot steamy shower will help open any nasal passages if you have any congestion. Good luck, I've got my fingers crossed ;)

My Theatre professor gave me that same recipe for lost voices only he adds a shot of bourbon to it. It works. I've done it MANY times.

I hope all works out for you!

Ok... I'm going to do all these things, starting with the tea.

Tonite at home, I'll add the bourbon.

Unfortunately, I HAVE to work this week... it was difficult to get a week off for the honeymoon. Anyway... I'm a receptionist so that is making it suck!!!

But, yes... thanks for all the well wishes. :wizard:

Mislissa - good luck. All the advice the others gave is dead on. The hardest part is to not talk any more than you have to at work and more importantly, don't talk at home. Have your DF make any last minute phone calls and intercept any unnecessary ones. Sit back and relax... not many brides get to do that before they're big day. :sunny: Enjoy your wedding and congratulations!!!!

Oh no! Don't talk and drink some tea with lemon and honey in it. I read someones post about rinsing with salt water...try this too! Aww I hope your voice comes back but don't stress :)

Any update? How are you feeling???

I had the same suggestions that others have already said, so I'll just send you some get better pixie dust :wizard:

Good morning,

Things are still the same :( I made up a lovely combo of camomille and mint tea, lemon, honey and rum last night... it was so good... it made an instant difference. Then, I woke up this morning back to the same old problem.

So, I'm just drinking all of that without the rum today... I brought a supply for two mugs of it at work. I'm a Receptionist. So I sound horrible at the office. I wish I could have a sick day, but since I'm getting married Saturday... I don't think they'd like that. :( Ah...

Maybe if you left the rum in today it would make your work day better :rotfl:

I hope you are feeling better. If you are still feeling this way tomorrow or Saturday, try going to see a Dr. There is some kind of spray you can get that brings your voice back for a few hours. My friend is a Broadway performer and she has had to get this done many times to be able to sing. I am really sorry I cannot be more specific, I have no idea what the spray is called. Feel better :) Congrats on your wedding!

Butting into your forum :guilty: Sorry

There is a "medicinal" tea on the market called "Throat Coat" it is the best stuff for your voice - It can usually be found in the health section and I think the brand is "Traditional Medicinals" or something along those lines.

Good luck and congrats!

I know I've also seen on TV that performers get cortisone shots and it heals them almost instantly.

Well, here's what happened... I had a crazy Thursday!!! :sad2:

I went to the doctor during the day (left work for an hour) and got a prescription for my throat. I go to this doctor all of the time... about 6 times in the last 6 months... and I figured she knew me pretty well, had all important informaiton on file.

Anyway, I brought my prescription to the pharmacist and it turns out that my doctor prescribed me penecillin which I am deathly allergic to. Good thing the pharmacist caught it!!! :cheer2:

So, my doctor was closed by this time and I had manicures, pedicures and waxing appointments to go to so I did all that and went to an after-hours/emerg. clinic. The doctor there could not believe the prescription I had gotten. I ended up being out all night and taking Friday off sick because of all the havok.

The antibiotics have made me quite ill in the mornings... and I have a bad taste in my mouth that won't go away... but, my wedding went off wonderfully!!!

I am now a wife. A really happy one, and my voice came back enough to get through the vows and be somewhat entertaining ;)

Now, just to get through enough of these antibiotics before the majority of my Disneymoon!!! :wizard: :goodvibes Thanks for all the well wishes and advice... all the tea certainly aleviated tons of pain. :grouphug:
