My wife and I returned a week ago a from two weeks at BCV and VWL. We knew we wouldn't be returning again until December '05. She tore her ACL skiing this past January and decided to wait until Summer '05 for surgery to repair it. She gets around okay now, but ACLs don't heal, and she is limited. Anyway, today she brought up a short trip at Christmas this year- five nights/ four days. It was an ugly week sitting around thinking about the next 18 months without WDW. Now my big concern is availability. We only need a studio from the 23rd through the 27th, and don't care which DVC resort. Any ideas what our chances might be?:D :( Which face will we be wearing ??????????????

Tell ya what ... we did a "whim" trip two years ago, Dec. 25 - Jan. 2, and tried for ressies four months out. We couldn't snag a single DVC property, but we ended up AKL concierge, which was a real treat (but a boatload of points.) I was glad to do it once, but wouldn't necessarily wanna burn that many points again.

Ye have not because ye ask not. What would it hurt?

Best wishes on the ACL, btw. Been there, done that, and it was a loooong recovery - but that was just me. Better than new, now.

Similar story in that we ended up at AKL in December when we could not get a DVC property. And we are going back to AKL in August. Getting a resrvation with points is likely. But you will need to be flexible, including the Disney collection.

We've had good luck with waitlists--but I've never tried after Christmas, only right before. If your heart is set on it, there are a few different options, here's a couple:
1. If nothing is availble, get on a waitlist for all the dvc resorts for the studio. Reserve a room at one of the value resorts on cash if you definitely want to go(or one of the others if you can afford it!)
2. Use points to splurge like others here have for concierge at one of the deluxe resorts!

I'm betting since you are flexible with the resort that it would come through--but of course you never know!

Good luck and have fun!

Give it a try. I've had really good luck with waitlists, even at the busiest times (Christmas at WDW and 4th of July at HHI). My advice is to do it now, obviously, and also to allow for day by day confirmations. In other words, allow any day to confirm automatically independent of the rest. You may end up with a day or two without a reservation, but your chances of getting them all are better than if you have them wait for ALL your nights to be available.

Good luck!

I just tried to get a studio or 1 bed the week after Thanksgiving.

That is supposed to be a down time and low attendance.
Not the case with DVC. the only thing I can get was a 1 bed at SSR.

As you just discovered, the week after Thanksgiving is not a "down time" for DVC accomodations, even though it is a slower time for the parks.

To sssteele - Hoping your wife makes a speedy recovery from ACL surgery next summer. Not sure I would want to visit WDW during the busiest time of the year if I were "mobility impaired". I will assume you know how crowded it will be and plan to spend most of your time visiting the resorts and attending the Holiday events and activities where the crowds don't matter as much.

Best wishes -
