:welcome: to a PTR I never thought I would be writing.

My name is Lindsay. I am 31 years old. Married to a wonderful husband and mother of two energetic and loving boys. I work full time as a manager of a pediatricians office. I love my job and family and had made them my entire world.

Here is me, my dh Mike, ds5 Ryan, and ds3 Nick on our last trip to disney 9-09
disneyvacation2009074.jpg

I recently realized that I cant just forget about myself. If I dont take care of myself it wont do my family any good. So I made a plan back in april to start eating healthy and exercising to loose all the weight I had put on after having kids. I needed some big motivation so I decided my goal would be to run the Princess Half Marathon.

Here is my before picture 4-26-10 and most recent pic 9-9-10

weightlosspics008.jpg

I have lost 30lbs so far and am hoping to loose another 30 by our trip. I have joined the W.I.S.H boards biggest loser challenges and it has helped me so much to loose the weight and get healthy. I also have met some really great people in this process too, some of them are also doing the princess so Im hoping to have some DISmeets while Im there.

I promise to not make this report totally about weight loss and running so lets move on to the fun stuff.

ME: Lindsay- This will be my 6th trip to disney. I can say that no trip has been the same for me. My first trip I was 10. We stayed off property. I went on a senior trip with 5 of my best high school friends and stayed at CBR. NO Parents:cool1: Vacationed with my parents, aunt and cousins when I was 18yr and stayed at ASsports, Honeymooned at AKL, and the last trip was my favorite...our first family trip with the boys at ASsports. I became seriously addicted to these boards during that trip and I havent stopped dissing since.:lmao:

MOM: Michele(53) This will be her 3rd trip to the world. She likes disney but just doesnt get why we need to plan for stuff so far ahead.:lmao: She is the best mom and memaw ever. She really is my best friend. I had to convince her this trip was a good idea since she has never left my dad to go away before. We turned this into a girls only trip after my mom invited my aunt. My dad now has to stay at home to help my grammy.:confused3 She will be my #1 cheerleader

mama001-1-1.jpg

AUNT-Jane 58 believe it or not this is her first trip to disney. She has turned my relaxing just taking it easy weekend into oh my we have to fit as much in as we can.:lmao: Im not sure if she will ever get back so I need to make this trip worth while for her. She just lost her husband in feb 2010. We will be on our trip the same weekend it happened last year. I think it will help keep her mind off of it. She has been caring for my grammy who is 97 years old for the past few years. I think she is really looking forward to this break

I need to get a picture of her! For now you will just have to use your imagination.

Those we will leave behind:

MY DADDY- David(54) Most loving caring father in the world. Im so grateful that he is allowing my mom and aunt to go with me. He has always been supportive of anything I wanted to do and that has not changed as I have gotten older. I am an only child and definitely daddy's little girl.

mama001-1-2.jpg

MY DH- Mike(32) He has been so amazing and supportive of me preparing for this race. I could not imagine life without him. I wish he could be there to see me finish but money and Ryan being in school just doesnt allow for it. I know he will be cheering me on at home. We have been married for just about 7 years.

IMG_1503-1.jpg

DS-Ryan(5)- Just started Kindergarten this year and loves it. Ryan is quite a character. He is starting to watch the cooler shows on disney as he would tell you. He likes phineus and ferb, and Zack and Cody. He is such a good boy and he is being very understanding that mommy is going to disney for a few days without him. I did have to promise him to bring him home some cool gifts.

Ryansfirstdayofkindergarten001.jpg

DS-Nicholas(3)- Nick is small but mighty. He loves Mickey Mouse Clubhouse, Handy Manny, and Imagination Movers. He wants to go to disney so bad and keeps telling me he is going to miss me too much. I think he will have the hardest time with me leaving. He is a complete mommy's boy.

So there you have it the Main Characters and the supporting cast.

UP NEXT- WHERE WILL WE STAY?

Where we will stay?????

This was not an easy question. Normally years in advance I will have in mind where my next stay at disney will be. Not this time. I had to wait until the race registration opened to determine which resorts would be named as the Host resorts for the race.

We were hoping CBR was one of them. Its where my mom really wanted to stay. Well luck would have it that it was.

So in August after the 2011 prices came out I called my AAA agent to get me some package prices. To my dismay he said CBR was already full. What???? I was a little confused.

A few months went by and we tossed around ideas of how many days to stay, where else can we stay, do we get the dining plan. You know all the main things you think about when planning a disney trip. The other two moderate host resorts are POFQ and POR. These did not really appeal to my mom. She even said at one point she no longer thought she could go.

A few weeks ago I had an  why not try the disney endurance racing number. I know they were offering discounted rates but I thought it was the same as what AAA offers. WRONG!!!!

Not only did I get a cheaper package but they also had availability at CBR. The only thing was no free dining could be used with the other promotion. Not a huge deal. This was enough to get my mom to commit. Last weekend I registered for the race and we booked our trip.:woohoo:

Hi Reese, Im so glad you joined my PTR. Thanks for the compliments. I really needed to loose the weight so bad. I was always on the thinner side until my pregnancies and I just have neglected myself since. It feels so good to be 30lb lighter but my goal is to loose another 30 before the big trip.

Congrats on the weight loss! You look fab:thumbsup2

Hi Nancy. That sounds like so much fun for you to be the cheerleader. I know my mom and aunt are excited too. I have a lot of questions about the planning for them of where to go and how to get there, etc. So I would love to hear about your plans as it gets closer. Thanks for following along.

I am going to go through our tentative plans for our trip. I would love some feedback and any advice you all could give me.

Day one:

Since we are flying out during the winter we decided it would be best to fly out of our local airport. This meant taking the only non-stop flight to orlando which does not leave until 5:36pm. We are only 1 1/2hrs from the philly airport that has early a.m flights but my mom insisted we should fly locally. So our airfare is booked:

Airtran $212 per person round trip.

Leaving ABE (allentown,Pa) at 5:36pm arriving MCO at 8:12pm. We are planning on taking the ME but picking up our luggage since we are getting in so late. This was not my first choice. If I would have gotten my way we would leave early a.m from philly and have a full day to spend at disney. I guess I should be happy I will be there at all right.:lmao:

Has anyone done this before? Either pick up your bags yourself or use ME to get your bags that late? and if so how long did it take you to get your bags at the resort?

I am hoping to be at CBR by 915pm. I think by that point we will just get our room and tour the resort. Grab a bite to eat at the food court. I am toying with the idea of heading to downtown disney but Im not sure if it will be too late.

So there it is the plan for the first day. Not to eventful.

Any thoughts?

HI Lisa. Thanks for joining. At least I have one follower now:lmao: I cant wait to meet you too. I am hoping in a way the next 5 months go fast but in others way Im not rushing it.:rotfl2: I got to get in the miles first.

I'm here too!! We're staying at the POP. We originally had reservations at SOG but decided to use free dining (which we can't at SOG). JenA and her DH will be there too. My family will be me, DH, DS15 and DD11. My snowbird parents will drive over from their place in Daytona Beach - they are using their DVC points at BCV so I think my DD11 will be jumping back and forth between the two places (and using the BC pool!)

Because the date of the race changed from March to February, our plans got a little skewed. The race now falls on the almost-last day of February break for our kids. So instead of having a "couples weekend" away - the whole family is coming. Yikes. Hence the switch to the cheaper hotel and use for free dining!!! And which unfortunately means we'll need to leave right after the race so we can get everyone back for school on Tuesday (we're driving... ) My legs will NOT be thrilled at sitting still for such a long ride after the run. :scared1:

This will be my first Princess and I am really excited about it. I'm doing my first half in about 2 weeks as my "warm up to relieve a little bit of the pressure of finishing it. I want to be able to have fun at the Princess and not care about time, etc etc so I can stop at all the characters... But that's just me. I'm a little freaky that way.

Can't wait to read more!! :goodvibes

LOVE the pictures. And boy, what a difference!!

Thanks for joining along. I was considering doing a half sooner but chickened out because I felt like Im not ready. I am not going to worry to much about my time and really just enjoy the race entertainment. By gosh I paid 130$ to register I might as well enjoy what they have to offer right? I am hoping to finish in 3 hrs just because we are going to MK that day and I want some time to rest before we go.:lmao: I hope my body will keep up with me during this weekend. Do you know when you plan to go to the expo? I was hoping to meet up with some of our BL friends. I have so much planned for the weekend Im not sure how to fit it in. I am planning on meeting up with Kathy and Lisa to be together while we wait for the race to start.

Sounds like a fun trip you have planned. Yes I got a little messed up with the date change to. We had to cut the trip a day short because I didnt want to miss Ryans kindergarten parent teacher conference. I already feel bad enough leaving dh and the boys behind.:guilty: I would love to do another race and have them there but it is so hard to plan without having them miss school.

Plans for Day 2 Friday Feb. 25th

Today we will head to the Princess expo. It starts at 10am. I am assuming the buses start running prior to that time. I am hoping to hop on a bus and get to wide world of sports by 10.

I am giving us 2 hours to spend at the expo and travel time to the park.

Once we are finished at the Expo we plan to head to Epcot for the day.

Once we get to Epcot we will grab lunch at a CS. Any Suggestions?

Depending on wait times we may grab a fast pass for soarin or which ever ride has the longest wait. We will tour future world and then head to the countries.

We have an ADR at Beach Club for the Cape may buffet at 5:40pm. My mom wants to also check out the boardwalk so we may take a quick tour around the resort after eating.

Epcot has EMH until midnight. We will watch Illuminations and tour the countries some more. We may also do any rides that we missed.

So here is what I need ideas/help with.

1. Anyone know what time the princess buses start running to the expo?

2. How much time do you think we will spend at the Expo? I want to look around but am mostly just interested in getting a race shirt that say's I did it. For anyone that has done a disney race before or any newbies that may have thoughts....do you think it will be super crowded going first thing on friday?

3. Does Wide World of Sports have a bus directly to Epcot? If not whats the quickest way to get there?

4. Any CS recommendations at Epcot?

5. What is some do not miss things at Epcot for my Aunts first trip?

Thanks to my few followers so far.

By gosh I paid 130$ to register I might as well enjoy what they have to offer right?

I laughed so hard when I read this. If you meet my DH, PLEASE don't let him know the entrance cost!! :lmao::lmao:

We're going to get in on Thursday - I wish it was open Thursday night so it didn't cut into our parks time on Friday. We'll probably go around noon - we'll spend some time in the parks and head over there for our "break"...

There was no way we could leave the kids home. When we were just going 3 days, I had grandparent help but because it fell on vacation time, my FIL had a ski trip plnned. AARGH. I really feel like I am going to be incredibly rushed and hope it will all just be okay...

I'd love to get together with everyone before the race. Please keep me in the loop for whatever might be planned...

Plans for Day 2 Friday Feb. 25th

4. Any CS recommendations at Epcot?

5. What is some do not miss things at Epcot for my Aunts first trip?

Thanks to my few followers so far.

I can only make suggestions for 4 & 5:

4. Depends on whether you are looking to "eat healthy!". LOL I like Sunshine Seasons in The Land; it usually has lots of healthy offerings. If I am going to splurge calorie-wise, fish and chips from the Rose & Crown!!

5. Definitely Soarin'. It's a ride but not a thrill one so it is wonderful for all ages. It is one of my favorite rides in all of the parks (get there early and get some fastpasses if the line is long..) We also like to get to the American Adventure early because the singers that perform before the show are really, really good. The American Adventure is another one of our favorites. I'd check with your aunt and see if there are any dancers/singers/gymnasts, etc that she'd be interested in and consider trying to make one of the shows in the various countries. They are always amazing...

I haven't even started my planning!!!

I can see I dont have too many followers. Hopefully more of you will join in.

I ran in a 5K race last sunday.

I want to share one of the greatest runs I have ever taken with you.

What: Tunnel to Towers 5K

When: Sun Sept 26th

Where: Red Hook area Brooklyn NY to Ground Zero New York, NY

Who: Me, My best friend amy, her dad Barry who is a local city fireman, and another fireman friend of his who also brought his wife and 10 year old son.

Why: The race supports the Stephen Siller Foundation. Stephen was a NY FireFighter who was off duty on 9/11. When he heard an aircraft flew into the towers he dropped what he was doing and immediately went to help his crew. He got stopped right outside the battery park tunnel. He got out of his truck put on all 75lbs of his gear and ran to the site of the towers. He was last seen approaching the towers. He lost his life that day trying to help others. This race traced his steps he took on that day.

Here is my story:

We left Barry's home at 4:45am. I had to wake up at 3:45am to get there on time. I didnt sleep well the night before. I was afraid I wouldnt here my alarm clock.:lmao: We arrived in NYC around 6:45am. We had a bit of trouble finding the area but once amy's dad got over his stubborness he agreed to let amy use her Iphone to GPS where we needed to go. That got us there with no problems.:rotfl2: We parked a few blocks away from the finish line. Getting there early had its perk, we got a spot on the street and didnt have to pay 25$ to park.:woohoo:

We met up with the other family in our group and walked over to the port-a-potty area. After we finished our business we headed to the area where the shuttle was taking runners to the start. We got in line and shortly the bus came. They had every thing so well organized.

We got to Coffey Park in brooklyn. Registration was easy. We pretty much just hung around talking and taking in the excitement. There were so many men and women running in their fire gear. It was amazing and very inspirational to see. After numerous trips to the port-a-potty and checking in our sweatshirts with UPS we made our way to the start area.

Amy and I waiting for the race to start. I am the one with brown hair....oh well I guess you know that since I have posted other pics.
NYC5Krun11.jpg

We were towards the front of the pack but still were 3 blocks away from the actual start line. There were over 15,000 people there. They had big screens set up sporadically so you could see and hear what was happening at the start line.

While we waited we saw a very "old" man approx 80 in his fireman suspender pants and boots, a tshirt and his firemans hat. The site of him doing this brought me to tears. We also saw a few groups of fireman from other countries. England,Spain, and Ireland. Here is a pic of a man from england. I took this not just because he was from england but he was a nice site to look at while I was waiting....you get the idea right.:rotfl2:

NYC5Krun12.jpg

They had "warrior" soldiers injured in the war that started the race along with the marine corp cadets. After a young girl sang the most wonderful rendition of america the beautiful they let them start their race. Once gentleman that they were honoring was a sargeant in the army who lost both of his legs just 6 months ago in aphganistan.:sad2: They gave him the fire engine red wheel chair bike. I was almost sobbing at this point.

Shortly after they started. They had a gentleman sing the star spangled banner. Then they rang the liberty bell in remembrance. They would announce what the ring was for, then they would ring the bell once, followed by a moment of silence. They rang for the 343 firefighters who lost their lives on 9/11, then for the # of first responders who lost thier life (I cant remember the exact # is was close to 100, then for the people on the aircraft that crashed in Pa, then for those who lost thier life at the pentagon, for those who lost thier life fighting the war-I cant remember the exact # but it was close to 4000:guilty:, and the last bell was for stephen siller.

Once we got past this emotional moment. They counted down and Rudy Guilianni gave the go. Everyone was cheering and clapping. It was amazing.

Shortly after the start you made a turn and headed down the hill and into the tunnel.

NYC5Krun4.jpg

It was hard to run at a good pace and I just came to the aggreement that I am not running it for a PR I am running for the experience so I didnt worry much about the speed. As we got into the tunnel the chants of USA...USA...began. Wow I cant even put the feelings I had into words. I felt like the 1 1/2 miles I ran through the tunnel gave me a whole new inspiration in life. Here are some things I saw in the tunnel.

NYC5Krun5.jpg
Sorry for the blur I was running.:rotfl: I wanted to give you the idea of how packed we were. Ahead you can see a guy running with a flag wrapped around him.

Next is one of the best pictures I could have taken. A firefighter running/walking in full gear..including the Oxygen tank carrying an american flag. I took the picture right as one of the guys from england came over and hugged him and walked along with him for awhile. Totally amazing.....
NYC5Krun3.jpg

By this point you can see I was on the walking/slow running side of the tunnel. I hung with the faster runners until about 3/4 of the way through. It was so hot in there. I could only imagine how those firefighters were feeling.

Next I could see the light at the end of the tunnel. Doing this run and feeling the heat/crowd gave a new meaning to this phrase.:rotfl2: Here is my view as I excited the tunnel. Completely breath taking is how I would describe my feelings.

NYC5Krun10.jpg

I could hear the cheers and people going crazy. i though I was close to the finish. Nope as I ran just a bit up the hill I saw this on the right side of the road
NYC5Krun1.jpg

and this to the left
NYC5Krun.jpg

On the right were the FDNY in thier formal attire. Each had a flag hung over them with pictures and names of the firefighters who died on 9/11. There were 343 firefighters that lined the street. It went for blocks long. They all were clapping/cheering/encouraging, and giving us high fives. I dont know what other word to say but AMAZING.

On the left were the US coast gaurd in their formal attire. Each holding an american flag.

We ran through the city. There were a bunch of bands playing, cheerleaders cheering, spectators cheering us on. There were people even cheering out of thier apt windows 30 stories up in the air. again....amazing

We ran through the empanade which is like a nice area around ground zero. It is along the hudson. I wish I got a better picture of this view. It was the NY cityline with the hudson in front of it. It was a breath taking view. I was so happy to be running there. It was awesome. In the water they had the NYFD fire boat....it was blowing its horn and siren with Firefighters on it cheering us on with megaphones.

Shortly after this part we were back into city streets. I ran up along the coast gaurd and the army running in their packs. They were doing there sound off. "I dont know what you been told" repeat. I hope you get what I am saying. Im sure there is a name for this.

NYC5Krun7.jpg

NYC5Krun6.jpg

I want to say for the record. I passed them.

At this point in the race it got a little hairy. There were some curbs and bumps that they had volunters standing by so no one would fall but people still tripped anyway. I felt like I was going through an obstacle course.

We were just a few blocks away from the finish.....their was a band playing on the corner with a female singer. They were singing this really slow song. I made a joke to a girl running next to me. I said wow they should be playing proud to be an american or we will rock you....not this slow stuff. She looked at me like I was nutz and just smile...so I ran ahead.:rotfl2: I was running next to 2 fireman in their gear and I know they were really feeling fatigued. They were cheering each other on and saying things that once again brought tears to my eyes. The one said "we can do this...I love you brother"

As I swallowed hard to hold in my tears I turned the corner-where there was a kids soccer game going on.....I love this about the city...you never know what you will see between the buildings. We had only 1/2 block to the finish line.
NYC5Krun2.jpg
this pic was taken later so thats why no one was running ahead of me.

I sprinted along with others to the finish. Finishing time 39:11. About 2-3 min short of my current 5K times but like I said this wasnt a race for me.

There were people still lined up for a few blocks cheering us on. I made my way through and found amy and her dad. They had tents set up all along the streets like a festival. They had so much food to offer (free) Hamburgers, Hotdogs, Roasted chicken, hot wings, shepards pie, pasta, salads, water. It was wonderful. We got our free shirts and ate some food. Here is a sand castle that was made:
NYC5Krun8.jpg

They had a parade of the FDNY that were standing earlier along the race along with the coast gaurd and the NYPD. They were led by the FDNY bag pipe band. They also gave out scholarships from the foundation. One was to a girl that started college this year. Her father was killed in Iraq in 2003. She was crying on stage and it broke my heart into a million pieces.

We grabbed our jackets at the UPS pick up area. Headed back to the car and drove home. We didnt stay for it but Montgomery Gentry was putting a concert on after a few local bands played. Dennis Miller the comedian was also there too.

It was just such a great experience I am still having a hard time putting it all into the right words. I hope you enjoyed hearing about my experience sorry the pics were so many different sizes. Thats what happens when I use my camera phone.

What a great post!!! Love, love it. And my eyes did not stay dry. I wish I had known about this race because I know that alot of us Guard members who were down there after 9/11 would have loved to have done it. I will keep my eye out for it next year.

My first half is next weekend and frankly, I'm petrified. While I have gotten several long runs in, I just don't feel that I am ready. I guess I'll find out next Sunday...

What a fabulous post!!! You had me in tears! Congrats for finishing :) :) :)

Hooray for Coasties ~ my DH is a retired Coastie and he enjoyed me reading your post aloud. Also send the link to my DD since I know she'll love reading it, too.

We are heading up to Saratoga, NY, at the end of the month for a wedding and DD is running a 5k in Lake George the morning of the wedding. She just ran a 5k cross country race and she said it just about killed her.

Keep up the good work!

I mentioned this on the Incredibles thread, but a kindergarten teacher at my kids' school went to NY for this. She told me it was awesome, but I am so glad I got to see your pics and read your description. What an amazing experience!

Can't wait to follow along on your pre-trip report!

I am so glad you loved the report. I am sorry I didnt mention it to you on the boards. It was a last minute decision to go. You definitely have to try to do it next year. The date is already posted on the website. I would love to do it again. I think its amazing what you do for our country and what you did to help after the attacks. God bless you!:worship:

I posted on the BL boards about your half. You will be fine. Just the pre race jitters Im sure.

Thanks nancy. Im glad you and your husband enjoyed hearing my story. I hope DD likes it to. I can say that the more you run and the more races you do makes it much more enjoyable. I no longer feel like I want to die at the end of them.:rotfl: I hope you have a great time in NY. Sounds wonderful.

Can't wait to follow along on your pre-trip report!

So glad you came over to my PTR lauren. I didnt see your post on the incredibles about the teacher you knew. Thats quite a trip from TN. It really is worth it. There were people from all over the country and world.

Hello Lindsay! I followed your link from the WISH and am so glad I did!

I will be thrilled to be following along with you as we all prepare for the Princess Half. I will be running it with Jude and hope to get a chance to meet some of my friends from the WISH while we are there.

We will be driving to WDW from Minnesota and will arrive on Thursday night. As Jude wrote, our plans were changed because of the date changes - no more couples weekend. It will be DH (who is also going to run the Princess) and my kids (they don't know they are going yet - they are going to FREAK out when they learn they are coming). We will be staying at the Pop and have free dining. We will have to leave on Monday and drive straight through to Minnesota because we really can't take that many days off of work.

I have not really started making the detailed plans yet. There is everything with the race that I want to be able to experience. There is the parks and the joy of being at WDW. There is being able to meet all my WISH friends. I am just not sure how it is all fitting in but I am going to try to cram in as much as possible.

Your report on the Tunnel to Towers 5K was so good. I cannot even imagine how it must have felt to take part in that event. Thank you for sharing it with all of us.

Can't wait to follow along on your planning and journey! :thumbsup2
Jen
