OH MY GOSH! WE'RE MOVING "HOME" to VB

What great news!!! I am so happy for you! I think you would make a wonderful CM!

I see a lot of DIS meets in your future!!!

Congratulations floridafam! Welcome to the Treasure/Space Coast
Which area are you looking at?

You probably already know this, but there is a Treasure Coast runner's club in Ft Pierce and Space Coast Club in Melbourne. There is a decent marathon held everyyear over Memorial Day at Wickham Park in Melbourne. There is also a triathlon in Port St Lucie the 1st weekend in October and Cocoa holds a Marathon the last week of November. Congratulations once again!

We've pretty much decided on Sebastian. The schools look great.

We will probably rent in Sebastian until we can find a home.

I'll tell DH about those clubs. He will sure appreciate the Florida weather to train in. He's trainin for Ironman Florida in November so this move will be timed perfectly for us.

laura6598,

DH works for a cable company. The transition will take some getting used to with finding new Doctors, etc. but it should be pretty simple.

I guess I have to plan one heck of a garage sale.

That's where we are leaning towards!!!

Keep your fingers crossed, I've got a resume (that I hope someone is looking at  ) in a Healthcare Company in Vero Beach as we speak!

Enough of this! Take pity on those of us for whom winter is just months away!

WAAA, I want to move to Florida, too... I HATE the winter. I get gloomy and depressed until the sun comes back in May. Now in Florida I would have A LIFE... year round!

FLoridaFam, you need to work in some capacity at the resort. Pals tell me CM's (even part-time) get 15% off on DVC points... it's a no-brainer!

Congratulations!

anniet,

I've got my fingers crossed. The schools in Sebastian look wonderful and we want to be North of Vero Beach.

I feel kind of overwhelmed right now. New Doctors, new Dentists, new schools, etc.

I always thought I would like working at the resort but DH said it would probably take away the charm of it for me. He also said I'd probably lose my patience with people saving chairs by the pool. Me? No way.;)

We just told our kids and they are all for it. I told them we could go to Rita's Italian Ice whenever we wanted to and that sealed the deal.:p

Thanks for all of the well wishes. DH is very glad he will not have to be around Michigan for another Winter.

I'm jealous too - we can never move to Florida because we're Canadian (Windsor, On). We would have to get green cards or win the lottery (which we never play either). My husband is a mechanic and retirement doesn't seem like it will ever be an option. I read one poster who stays at OKW for a couple months in the winter - maybe someday I will be one of those snowbirds and stay for the winter.

I have a question for you people that already live there. What are the summers like?? I love hot weather but is it unbearable? My husband has taken his US exams and if ever someone sponsors him to work over there - that's my first choice. He could work cross border for a while and then we could move down when my son is finished school.

Anyway - sorry to cry for so long - I am really happy for you. Congrats!! Oh yeah - keep posting - we'll live through your eyes.

Hi,

This is great news!!! When do you hope to move??

Allison :cheer2:

floridafam,

That is so awesome!! Getting away from the Michigan winters would be a HUGE incentive.... :teeth:

I always joke with my DW that if something ever happens with my job in MI to start planning on selling the house because it would be time to move to VB...

I occaisionally find myself daydreaming about buying a house down in Indian River County and start surfing the real estate classifieds down there... :hyper: :hyper: :hyper:

Once again!! Congrats!!

Any way we could work out a deal where you go to Hale Groves on a regular basis and ship Orange Juice back up to MI? ;)

Congratulations!! I was there a few weeks ago. I can't begin to tell you how envious I am. Best of luck.

Just another well wisher on your move! Congratulations!!! Enjoy your snow-free winter!!! :)

What I'm really jealous of is how close you'll be to WDW and DVC!!!! You can just drive there so easily, no more big expense of transportation to getting to WDW.

  Congratulations:tongue:
Nice part of Florida! Hope your DS does well with his asthma here in Florida!

July:bounce:

Here's another Michigander wishing you the best in FL. I am so jealous. Sun and warm weather -- two things we have not had too much of lately!!! Hopefully, we will be down there in about eight years.

Floridafam,
Congrats and Best Wishes on the move.
Good to hear from you again.

Thanks again everyone.

Now I just have to figure out how to break the news to my parents.:( They are not going to like this but there's not much I can do.

We used to live in Florida and DH gave up everything so we could move up here after my brother died and my other brother became sick. He's always wanted to move back to Florida and now we have the chance.

Vero is just such a wonderful town.

The kids keep asking if we can go to Disney whenever we feel like it. YES!

Thanks again. I guess I have to call MS on Monday and cancel some days of our October trip.

I think we will put our DVC to good use while living in Florida. We are going to keep our reservation for Halloween night and will probably take some weekends to relax.

My Dad said he was okay with the idea of us moving to FL-- ONLY if we made sure our house is big enough for him and Mom to spend the winter!!!!

Maybe they will decide to move down to be near you eventually.

It wouldn't be the first time I've heard of that happening.

Good luck!

anniet,

They won't be moving down there. My Dad still lives 2 blocks from where he grew up. They are just too set in their ways. I feel bad because they have lost 2 children and now we will be 1,000 miles away but we have to do what is best for us.

I hope you receive good news from Vero soon. ::yes::

Suppose you could get a position at the resort, what would you like to do?

You could kick local pool crashers out of the pool. There's certainly a need.

That was the hardest part for us. My mom is 74. My dad passed away 4 years ago. We only lived 5 miles away from her in Michigan. She really loved seeing my kids on a regular basis. She was very sad and upset. Like your parents, she is very set in her ways. After my dad passed away, she did move the following year into a condo. That was a miracle. However, the house was just too much for her to maintain. The condo is 1 mile from the house where they lived together for 48 years. We have tried so hard to talk her into coming down for the winter. So far we haven't had much luck. She has said MAYBE she will come for 1 month in the winter. I think she just said that to get us off her back! She misses us and we miss her but if my husband wants to stay employed, we needed to move. She does understand that. Saying goodbye in June was the hardest thing though.
