Oh my gosh....fell in LOVE with VWL!

It seems like we're just going to HAVE to visit WL around the holidays some year (what a hardship, eh?). Everyone says it really is beautifully decorated then.

Thanks for all your additional comments. I'm glad to see we are in such good company!

Sammy

I agree that the WL and it's lobby are fabulous. We love driving over and eating at Whispering Canyon Cafe or then catching the boat to Ft. Wilderness and eating at Trail's End. I can say that the DVC rooms there are our least favorite of all the DVC rooms. They are just too dark for our taste. Maybe a a room larger than a studio may not have seemed so, but our room was very dark, including the vanity area. So, we are more than content with visiting the main Lodge and having a meal.

If you do ever stay there, ask at check-in if you can be the Flag family for a day, you go to the top of the Lodge and help raise the flags and have a simply breathtaking view. That is one of our favorite memories at WDW.

Glad you enjoyed your stay at VWL!

During our 2001 trip to our BWV home, we added a cash night at WL to try it out and fell in love with resort immediately... amazingly in the first second after the lobby door slid open. Awesome. The next morning I added a second night to our stay, and then a third...we couldn't leave. Shortly after we bought our add-on.

I'm so pleased with both of our resorts... Can't wait for our thanksgiving trip home!

We open the curtains or turn on the lights. It becomes very bright in the room then. ( sometimes I even put on my glasses! )

Thanks for sharing why you don't like VWL on a thread that's about liking VWL.

That is exactly how we felt when we stayed at WLV in December:D It was just amazing. We took the picture below in front of the Christmas tree in the lobby of the Villas:) It is so beautiful there.:)

Love the description -- "Gasp moment". It captures the feeling very well. Two other resorts that earn the same reaction are AKL in WDW and GC in DL.

RweTHEREyet,

DH felt the same as you regarding the studio. However, once we stayed in a one bedroom, he was hooked.

He convinced me to stay there in December, and now I am just busting with anticipation!
I can't wait to sit in a rocker by the Christmas tree in the lobby of the Villas! :hyper:

In October 1997, DW and I stayed at WL and had that "gasp moment". We fell in love with the resort and kept talking about it even after we got home. In 2002, we stayed at CR, where we became interested in DVC. We signed on 2 weeks later, knowing that our "home" would be WLV.

This past year, we were scheduled to arrive (with our 2 DS's) at WLV on 12/28/03. To be truthful, I didn't know if I would have that "gasp moment" this time. Well, the DSs walked in and had their "Oh, Cool!" moment. This, of course, caused me to have another "gasp" moment. Needless to say, fun was had by all.

Wow, that was pretty mean.
RweTHEREyet was just stating an opinion about the darkness of the rooms.
His/Her comments did not come off as resort bashing to me.
Reading some of Richyams old posts would be good therapy for you. :D :D :D :D

I wasn't sure if jarastel was being nasty or not, so decided to let it go. I never said I hated WLV, but in the list of all the DVC resirts, one of them has to be a least favorite, and for my whole family it is WLV. I also think that the WOW factor of the WL lobby is not quite the same as staying in one of the rooms. You can enjoy visiting the lobby and the resorts' amenities without having to stay there. Since the OP stated that their WOW factor was visiting the lobby, I simply wanted to share my thoughts on the actual rooms. Our room was dark, even with curtains open and we were on a bottom floor looking into woods on the backside of the building. I also don't like what I call the "swamp" view at BCV either.

I would definitely prefer to stay at WLV over a regular Disney resort any day of the week.

It is a good thing that we all don't think alike and all love the same resort or some of us would probably never get to stay where we really wanted to because of the demand.

Sorry, jarastel, that sharing my opinion caused you a problem.

As the OP of this thread, I just want to say that I can appreciate a difference of opinion as to what everyone's fave DVC resort is. Thank goodness we all don't love the same resort or as RweTHEREyet stated, we would be hard-pressed to book a room.

I took his/her post in the spirit in which it was given: agreeing with me on the "wow" factor of the lobby, but offering that the rooms themselves don't offer the same feeling for their family. Thanks for your thoughts! (BTW, I love your DIS name!)

The great thing about this being a disney discussion board is that people feel free to contribute their own thoughts and opinions to threads and discussions. I have found invaluable information over the years here, and I truly appreciate those who contribute without being judgemental or sarcastic.

Thanks Sammy, for your comments. To offer up my opinion again, I think you ought to do as you stated earlier and stay at each DVC resort. That way you can decide what is right for you. We are doing the same thing. So far the only resort we have not stayed at is Vero. We have enjoyed each DVC resort for different reasons. My favorite things about VWL are the closeness of the rooms to the bus stop and the boat ride to Ft. Wilderness to eat at Trails End, and the WOW factor of the lobby. We have just learned that as far as decor is concerned, we are more tropical people.

Did I miss something?

Why would Richyams old posts be therapeutic?

Good morning Lisa! I think that the poster was referring to the fact that Richyams never hesitated to give his considered opinion of each of the DVC resorts. All of us here at the Dis should be able to do this without attack. Hope you have a good week:wave: ::yes::

Our family has visited WL on every trip we've taken since it opened. Last year during our visit we took a brief tour of a 1BR suite at VWL. We are owners at BCV but the CM at the front desk was only too happy to show us around -- she got away from the desk for a while!

DW thinks VWL is "too dark", and when I asked whether we should switch our reservation at 7 months, she voted for staying put at BCV. But I managed to get one night at VWL (studio) before our cruise, so we'll see if that sparks any interest. (Me, I want to stay EVERYWHERE!)

Another huge fan of VWL here::yes:: What a beautiful resort!! I loved staying there and I can't wait to do so again.

Hi,
