I had also read that Mimi Rogers was a Scientologist. Wonder what made him really get into it....he seemed ok during Risky Business, Top Gun and all through his marriage to Nicole.

A very, very close friend of mine married a Scientologist (before I knew her). She met him while vacationing with her mother and aunt. He was so "perfect" and very wealthy. She didn't know a thing about Scientology - thought it was some sort of EST thing.

He got mad at her one day for some trivial matter (shortly after they were married) and literally tried to kill her. He threw he across the room and then strangled her until she passed out. She says she does not remember what happened the next few days. The "Sci-Fi" clean up team came and covered everything up, and she never saw her husband again. Which was FINE with her.

This is a very intelligent, successful woman in her own right. She was terrified that they were going to come back and kill her if she made any noise.

I know this sounds like a soap opera but this is someone I've known quite well for many years now. I've tried to keep the details a little vague for her privacy. I knew her for years before she shared this with me.

Very scary!

Some people say that he started this weirdo stuff after his sister took over as his manager, that she couldn't keep control of him like his previous manager could.

I thought I read that Mimi Rodgers's father was a Scientologist? I'll try to find that info. Found the info. on the DrinkThis site:

Philip J. Spickler. One of Scientology founder L. Ron Hubbard's original disciples, Spickler is the father of Mimi Rogers, Tom Cruise's first wife and the person responsible for recruiting him into the cult in the mid-'80s.

HTH!

The real question is - Is Tom real or a Scientology animatronic figure. I vote for the second and we all know that SCFs can't reproduce just yet.

Did anyone follow this link? It was a link on the Wikpedia site and is "testimonies" from celebrities. Really weird, gives me a creepy crawly feeling.

Yes, very Creepy, it seems they are ALL Successful Since they have BECOME Scientologists!!! Nope, don't think so, I haven't heard too much about the un-known actors because they are scientologists, like Anne Archer, she hasn't been around since the Movie she made with Tommy Lee Jones, where he had to "babysit" the Cheerleaders, that was a big FLOP! :sad2: Had NO idea Chick Carea was one, thats creepy! :rolleyes1

Saw this about Oprah on Yahoo news:

["As for her friendship with King, Winfrey said she can't quite pinpoint what makes her bond with her friend so unique.

"Something about this relationship feels otherworldly to me, like it was designed by a power and a hand greater than my own," Winfrey said. "]

HMMMMMMMMM.

I think Oprah lurks here. ;)

Just looked thru this...Keith Code is an idol of my DH!!!! Oh great scott......!!!!! Well...idol might be too strong a word...he reads all of Keith Code's motorcycle books. Now I'm gonna have to look thru them. And if I see "Dianetics" come home...we're gonna have one serious discussion!!!!

WIBS? Stands for Where Is Baby Suri......tag fairy, oh tag fairy :wizard: I like that: WIBS!!! :rotfl2:

Reading the "success" stories of Scientology makes me sick. Has anyone noticed that all of them are succcessful entertainers. Where are the physicians, lawyers, factory workers, stay at home moms, etc? It is so apparent (considering they have centers called "Celebrity Centers" )that Scientology is all about the eternal hollywood mantra."what can it do for me" ??
The quotes about how they won emmys or went to the "big time" after discovering Sceintology is disgusting. Does Mel Gibson say "Wow, since I became a devout Catholic my career took off". Pathetic. Like they have a "secret" that non-believers will never possess.

Is it me or is Tom Cruise on his way down on the popularity list. I sure hope so. And I pray that Kate's parents get her the heck out of his clutches or soon we might see her "success" story:

"Hi, my name is Kate Cruise. Before I discovered Scientology I was a young, attractive women with a lovely hollywood career where I starred in a hit television series, and films: The President's Daughter, and Batman. NOW, I am a wife of a hollywood movie star. I rarely come out of my house unless I am accompanied by a Scientology "handler/best friend". I wear the same jeans all the time and my hair is a mess. I don't see my family too much and I think I had a baby a few months ago but I am not sure. I won't be in another movie until Tom picks one for me, and it will have to be directed by another Scientology member. I LOVE my life and want to thank Scientology for giving it to me!!"

I just read through that and they all sound brainwashed.

I don't care what they says, it's a cult. I hope they don't drink the Koolaid.

Sounds like a Cult to me too! :thumbsup2

Boy am I shocked to see some of the people listed on the website. I wonder if some of them were in movies together because of their connection or if they were converted while working with another?

Well - Juliette Lewis was born and raised in the cult-esque-type-group=that-isnt-really-a-cult. ;) As well as that guy from the 70's show AND Mimi Rogers. Her dad was a founder.

SUCCESSES OF SCIENTOLOGY

n other philosophies, my questions would get answered to some degree, but then I would have a follow-up question and there would be no answer. The logic would dead-end. In Scientology you can find answers for anything you could ever think to ask. These are not pushed off on you as, “This is the answer, you have to believe in it.” In Scientology you discover for yourself what is true for you.

No one is telling you. You gain your own knowledge of what is true for you. And so your ability to communicate, your ability to be certain about yourself and to know what your purposes, intentions and goals are, become much stronger. Scientology is about regaining total cause over your own life.

Thought this was interesting.

Here's another seriously weird issue I have with this "religion".

Certain aspects of it, particularly the Sea-Org - has you sign a contract. A billion year contract!!!
a one-billion-year pledge to symbolize their commitment to the religion as immortal spiritual beings. It is signed by all members today.
http://www.whatisscientology.org/html/part06/Chp26/index.html

A billion year contract? Huh? Even "God" doesnt ask you to sign any contract. Heck - if I wanted to I could go on a murderous rampage - then repent and ask for forgiveness.

A billion year contract? Sounds really creepy, if you ask me. I told my family this morning, we'd have spaghetti for dinner, I have since changed my mind...I cant commit to dinner plans, let alone a billion years of service. (all you people making mulitiple ADR's and changing them all the time, know what I mean! ;) )

A billion years. Lets say Mr Hubbard is right - what happens after this billion years is up, anyways?

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sea_Org

Any religion, group, anything...asking me to sign a billion year contract, I'd pull a : :tiptoe:

Maybe I watched the "Devil & Max Devlin" too many times as a kid. I remember those contracts
