I just heard on the local news that some group calling themselves "Metro Orlando Mommies" is protesting the Bloody Mary billboards. Sigh! Why must society take offense at everything and anything these days? It's an ad for haunted houses, people! Get over it! If it scares little Johnny, maybe he needs to get a little more hearty. Heck, my mother didn't believe in babysitters so I saw "Night of the Living Dead" at the age of three and every other horror movie that came out. And here I am now, loving HHN! People shelter their kids today from anything that might be the slightest bit offensive, at the same time giving them trophies for doing nothing...then we wonder why they're turning out the way they are.

Okay, okay, down from the soapbox now, but I just can't help but fear that USF is going to cave and I would hate to see HHN dumbed down for the whiner crowd.

Seriously.

I showed that pic to my 7 & 5 year olds and asked them if they thought it was scary. "ummm no" was their response.

Mine either, stop sheltering your kids so much it's a scary world out there people.

Things that make you go "hmmm":
Erin Heston, who is doing the complaining about the billboards, is an Independent Communications Consultant.
Here's her website:

But seriously, I just think it will make more people notice the ads which may turn out to be a good thing.

I think some Moms just have too much time on their hands and have to complain about everything- and yes, I'm a SAHM.

Anyway, her child is 3 years old, at 3 my two DDs weren't looking at billboards they were more interested in drawing in the backseat!

When they are driving, are they saying"hey kids look at that billboard"??

I looked up metro's link. And some of them just donn't have a clue.

One said that HHN is a drunkfest and should be closed down:confused3

Another stated this is the reason we got so much crime!!!

I just donn't get it!!!!!!!!!

Well if that group thinks an Old Bloody Mary sign is scary...just have them head on up here to NC. You get on I95 and go through Fayetteville, and Lumberton and there are some VERY risque signs  for all sorts of errr Adult Entertainment.:scared1: It will make Bloody Mary look like Mary had a little lamb. :rolleyes1 :rolleyes1

HEY TAG FAIRY...YOU GONNA MAKE ME RED OR WHAT? PLEASE??? popcorn::

They got the same kinda signs on I-75 around here!!!!And they donn't go away, they been there for years....

I know this is a IOA/US board, but I'm just wondering if Bush Gardens gets this same kind of negative attention for their halloween scare nites. :confused3

i'm thinking if these people have nothing better to do then to get all worked up over a billboard, they REALLY need to find themselves some kind of a life...

i just finished reading all 352 responses.

there were so many i wanted to respond to but then it would add at least another hour to finish reading all the comments.

i did find a poster in the town next to mine posting......
and they are hhn -ers too.

so many ignorant people having to state, what about the children.....
i always said, they weren't made of sugar and weren't going to melt.
kids grow up in spite of the parents.

Yes, we got to see those risque billboards every single time we drove to WDW from Texas for vacation with our preteen sons.

Just showed my kids (6,4,2) the different pics of billboards and all things Mary related, and asked them if they thought it they were scary. My 6yoa said "ugh, no way", my 4yoa thought she was funny for having no eyes and wanted to know every thing about her. When I told her her name was Mary, she said "I love her, her name is like my dolly. Can we get a doll like her" (future HHN fanatic). My DD 2 said "No scary momma". My kids get scared at everything, loud sounds, cats, the dark everything. They loved the pics. I don't see what all the commotion is about.

There getting more publicity now.Just seen channel 13,they had a segment on the billboards..Come-on..

They say images like this will make future crimes :confused3

If you look up the statistics of the world crime,United States is ranked 24th'With S.Africa ranked#1...

With the right upbringing of your children, crimes will go down..

To me thats the problem with this country.Shelter a child and no discpline=When the child grows up they wonn't know how to handle it and possibly go down the wrong road.I raised my kids to look and explain why. That way they may have a grip of whats out there in this world!!

Thats my

on the matter.I'll get off my
soapbox.gif
now!!!

Reminds me of years back, when "Beavis and Butthead" was blamed for some kid burning down his family's trailer. Turns out he didn't even have access to cable TV and had never even seen one episode.

It's so much easier to blame TV and billboards for out of control kids than to put the blame where it belongs: On the parents.

Cue the Orlando Mommies singing, to the tune of "Blame Canada" from the South Park Movie: "Blame Maaary, blame Maaary, before somebody thinks of blaming us!"

(I think I'm going to form the Metro Orlando Mummies just to combat these idiots.)

we made the mistake of bunking in 'nice hotel' in Lumberton once:rolleyes: on the weekend, when the nearby base peeps were being entertained my the ladies...of the night...that was scary, yet business as usual according to the night clerk.

forget the billboards, im more scared by the poster calling himself "concerned for your soul":scared:

Yeah...some of those posters are over the top...but a lot are very truthful. See what nice residents we Orlando folks are? :rotfl:

actually, i think most are a very accommodating sort:)

while i realize that the travel/entertainment industry is king (& all that entails) the hordes of tourists/traffic would wear on my nerves very quickly:confused3

imo, they could work up a rather scary house just based on some of the stuff i've observed while navigating down I-4...some of the idjits must have death wishes:headache:
