Hi everybody - I logged on tonight in the hopes of finding a thread just like this one. I need some help.

I live in northwestern VA and have not seen my house since last Tuesday. I flew up to NY during the "little" storm that went from Tues to Wed last week. Couldn't go home Friday night, and since I was headed back to Jersey for Mon morning, I just stayed up here. Was supposed to fly home last night, then was re-booked for tomorrow. Cancelled. Only availability is into BWI on a very late flight Thursday night. (Between thousands of stranded passengers and winter break, everything seems to be booked.) And since my car is parked at Dulles and I live out off of the Rt7 bypass, I really don't want to deal with that at midnight. So, after too many hours on the phone, I have decided to drive home Friday morning.

Normally, I would take I95 to I695 to I70 to RT17/Rt287. I am assuming from what everyone is saying that 17/287 and even Rt15 would probably not be safely passable even on Friday and I have a rental instead of my trusty little SUV. So looks like it will have to be I95 to I495 to I267 to Dulles. Would anyone be willing to post some updates on the road conditions as you know them tomorrow? I sure would appreciate the heads up.

I know I should probably be cheering that I am warm and safe in a hotel room and not out there shoveling that heavy snow, or stuck without power as so many are, but I am just a wee bit too antsy about the condition of my house, as well as bored to tears, to not head home as soon as possible.

I feel bad for all you folks down in the mid Atlantic. Our first trip to Florida the very first day we arrived there was a tornado warning! Now this little girl from Maine got eyeballs like flying saucers-holy moly-what do we do now?! All turned out fine, and the natives just went about their business like ho hum. So I do understand. BUT-we need some snow here. I don't care if it would end up being 3 feet-if it's winter, then by golly-give us snow. I hate spring weather in the middle of winter.

Has the fed gov't ever shut down four days in a row? I'm still in shock. Dh is fed and I'm Md state but a weird situation in that I work in a county-owned building so I was actually off Monday, Tuesday because the county shut down, now Wed, Thur because the state gov't shut down. Just weird. Never thought I'd actually want to go to work, but really enough is enough. I just want some normalcy!!

Don't expect travel to be normal before the weekend here. This second storm was a real knock out punch. We survived without too many power outages (thank goodness), but snow drifts have created a huge problem. The plows are gonna have a huge headache figuring out where to put all the snow.

Be very careful when you're driving. Sight levels are not great even once the roads have been plowed. The snow drifts are too high at corners.

Really? I need a blizzard whiteout on top of everything else?!?! I told Matt lastnight I didn't know I have moved to freaking North Dakota. I sooo deserve even a bigger present for valentines in additon to the this weekend's snow fall.

Ya'll be careful in this weather. If you haven't seen it yet, it's coming your way and it's not pretty.

awww--hang in there. I was enjoying the snow until we lost power for three days. That kinda sucked the fun out of it. I don't blame you for being stir crazy. I hope we don't get too much more on Monday.

Bomb, Dulles is supposed to open later today. I haven't heard about Regan though. There is no above ground metro and limited buses so I hope he has a car. I can get out of my drive and my neighborhood if he needs a ride. I understand your need for him home to run interference. I wouldn't get out for too many people but I would for that lol.

Just saw my neighborhood here in MD got another 20 inches yest. Looking out the window there is just so much. We paid someone who had a bulldozer the other day to dig us out but I think we are on our own today. At 5:30 this morning there was an ambulance a couple of doors down. They must have had a hard time as our development got slammed with snow. DH will be working from home again today which he has never had to do since we've lived in MD. This is so unusual. Schools are closed a 4th day and I can't imagine they'd go tomorrow.

According to the Federal Eye blog on the Washington Post, it is "unprecedented."

I heard some news rambler yesterday saying the most ever was 5 days straight about 10 or 20 years ago. I'm pretty sure they will be closed again tomorrow with mtero not running and people just can't get out of their neighbhorhoods.

I cannot handle anymore snow and more coming! I was supposed to be leaving to see my husband today. Not happening of course.

Today we're beginning the Big Dig. My goal is to be able to pull out of our driveway by Sunday. We have that much snow to move and I have no idea where we will put all of it!!

I'm not sure what I think about tomorrow. As it stands now, I am going to prepare like I will be going in tomorrow. I *think* they may be able to get the tracks clear if they have all day today. If Metro can operate above-ground, they will open. I don't thing the Feds give a HOOT that people cannot get out of their neighborhoods. That's not their concern. Their main issue is: can we get the people safely into their work areas. This means that the buses and trains have to be operating close to normal and the government facilities have to be cleaned up themselves.

What they don't want is to call the government "OPEN" and then have people be forced to drive in since DC and the parking areas cannot accommodate all those people. And while the government gives a generous amount of leave, there are many, many employees who don't have any because they are abusers. They will come in.

I'm still trying to see what odds I'm going to place on the opening. Right now, I think that there is a 30% chance they will close tomorrow. I may change that later in the day when I hear reports from Metro.

I think you should just get in your car and drive to Georgia at this point. Once you get past Prince William County, the interstate is pretty good. Actually, it's down to pavement where I am.

Thanks honey. DH will fly out late tomorrow night. In-laws are staying at a timeshare somewhere in a 2 hour radius of here this weekend.

Of course, WE are getting pummeled with snow right now! Who would have thought Dallas would be getting a foot of snow!?

I love Peanut Butter Cup blizzards....real ones, not so much. I spent the blizzard socked in at work. Three hours of sleep over two days is NOT enough for me at this age. It was amazing what was going on yesterday during the storm. You all stay safe!

Here's something, in Rochester (part of the "snow belt") we have just shy of 64". According to CNN, DC has gotten 72.3"...which is only about 3.5" shy of Syracuse's current snow fall total of 75.9" http://goldensnowball.com/

I currently have maybe an inch outside my door. All of this has just passed us by! I used to live in the Philly area, so I know that 2" shuts down the city, let alone a blizzard! Good luck & stay safe everyone!

MD has gotten 79.9 inches so far this season with more predicted Monday.
