Oh I love a good blizzard

Ok, I just looked at weather.com and right now they're predicting snow for us in Kentucky on Sunday and then Thursday and Friday. Thursday and Friday don't sound too significant so far, at this point.

I agree with LibertyBelle. This is beyond our capabilities. My bil lives in Bethesda and his road never saw a plow. You cannot drive thru two+ feet of snow. Period. Even with shoveling sidewalks and driveways, if the road is unpassable, you aren't going anywhere! Now they are expecting to get 20" more out of this storm. Yikes! I don't know when they'll be able to get out.

Here, where I live in Southern Md, the roads were mostly passable but not down to pavement at all. One big problem is where to put the snow - the piles of snow are so high already that you cannot see around them to merge onto other roads. It has been very challenging to say the least.

Wow. I am thankful it's not like that here. Our road is a layer of snow, then ice, and then snow again. It never, ever gets plowed. It just has to melt on its own and that can take a while! Luckily the main roads do get plowed, but it takes time.

I do remember snowfalls like that in Michigan where I grew up. Our neighbors had snowmobiles and they'd go around to all the neighbor's houses and get grocery orders.

wow! so much complaining about snow! try having it all the time every year!:confused3. IT is just snow! It is no big deal! now if you were in Florida, then I could understand!

all snowplow operations in Washington, dC and Alexandria, VA have been temp. suspended due to the terrible conditions...YIKES

So sorry for you all.

Yes, I live in Iowa, and we do have the manpower and machinery for this. Even so, we average 32 inches of snow a year, with a record of 93 inches in Elkader in 1950 - 1951.

My uncle, who lives in Potomac, MD, was supposed to fly to San Jose today - I don't think he is going to make it.

As for pulling the plows, yes, that's bad.

When we have inclement weather, our local TV stations scroll the cancellations on the bottom of the screen. We had a blizzard in early January, and one of those cancellations I saw was for a snowmobilers club meeting! :scared1:

It really is bizarre... we are in Maine an our snow is old, dirty, crusty March looking snow:confused3. It was 45* here yesterday.... it's gonna be in the 30's today.... this is great weather for us in February.

I am east of you in New Brunswick, Canada. We are having a nice winter aren't we? The mid-Atlantic states are getting the snow we usually get.

Stay safe everyone!

DH was talking to some independent snow plow people up here who said they are going to drive down south to help dig people out, for a hefty fee of course. They are really hurting around here (Vermont) because we have had little to no snow this year.

:rotfl:

I agree. I'm in western MD and we're in a bad way. I'm glad i stocked up on wine and food. We were supposed to fly out to WDW this morning, then I changed our flights to tomorrow morning, then again to tomorrow afternoon....this morning I cried Uncle and emailed our TA. We're going to go April 23-30 instead. I am on the phone with SWA rebooking flights.

ENOUGH ALREADY! I am snow OVER this snow. :sad2:

Stay safe fellow snowpocalypse victims.

Oh my. How stinky. I'm glad you will finally be able to get to WDW in April. But you really must be cursing the weather!

I am really trying to be positive about all this. I haven't left my house since Friday. I'm going a bit stir crazy. This weather has me just feeling overwhelmed and so out of my element. Everytime I hear a creek of the roof or the trees I'm looking up worried.

I'm trying to tough and get this but holy cow this weather is insane. It's not like I was reading the witner survival guide during the 100 degree summers of Arkansas.

This is very rare for your area so I hope all the rest of your nova winters are dry and warmish.

I would go nuts! When we lived in that general area we got very little the 2 winters we were there. I still have friends there and it's crazy.

wow! so much complaining about snow! try having it all the time every year!:confused3. IT is just snow! It is no big deal! now if you were in Florida, then I could understand!

There are thousands of people without power and these same people still haven't seen a plow down their road with 20 + inches of snow and another 12-20 coming. The power people have suspended service to get these people's power back on. It will be even longer now and with the horrible winds and heavy snow even more peoplw will loose power.

I have almost 40 inches of snow in my yard now. This stuff is no joke and be rather scary when you aren't accustomed to such things.

They are not equipped for it in those areas. And no school for what 9 or 10 out of the last 2 weeks of school days? Plus no power for some time, lots of trees in the area to come down any minute and the government is completely shut down. This is not just a "little snow" people are whining about. This is a blizzard on top of another storm with no where to put it.

I live in North Eastern PA and it is a BLIZZARD right now. Supposed to get 10-18in:banana:, I'm hoping for 20-30in:thumbsup2. that is after all why I live in the Poconos.

Baltimore City has closed its roads. Only emergency personnel can be out on the roads now. Almost all utility crews have pulled their trucks and personnel off the roads and in some places even the snow plows have been pulled off of the roads because of the white out conditions.

It's not "just snow" when your city is not able to take care of it. We just don't have the manpower or machinery to ready the roads and clear out the snow. I grew up in Michigan and we did have snow all the time, but it was expected and taken care of. This is much, much different.

Right there with you... I keep saying "It was so much better in New York"

In my county, 68,000 of 109,000 customers lost power on Saturday. Today, 14,000 still have no power. No heat, no water, ect. 1/4 of our population is over 65 years old. (this is a retirement beach community, you know. Yeah, right)

25 plows in the whole county and no salt...

And here comes round TWO!!!!

My heart goes out to all of you dealing with this. I am in AL/GA and while it is cold to me, 30 degrees with a wind chill of I think 17 degrees, I can't even imagine what you are going through. I would be terrified. I felt this way in Nov/Dec when it was raining all day everyday.

I heard one of the nurses here say something about snow in our forcast for Friday and I can just imagine that schools will shut down and if we get anything it might be 1/2".

I will keep you all in my prayers that this ends soon.

Suzanne

Big hugs to you Tina . I worry about you being alone sweetie, but know how tough you can be when you put that red lipstick on! HOOAH!! :thumbsup2

Total white out blizzard in our part of MD. Estimate 30+" snow is very unusal for our area indeed :scared:. Altho our plows and power company have done a good job in our area thus far, we're really stretching our workers, equipment and supplies. :guilty:

Everything is at a stand still, no school this week, SonIL's gov. job closed for third day in row, DD1 office is closed, DD2 has mandatory job and her boss drove her to work, while SonIL2's office is closed so he's taking care of 3 kiddies.

Main concern is we're praying the power doesn't go out, last blizzard 15 yrs ago we lost power for 5 days. We've already lost several pine trees due to high winds :guilty:. Thankfully DH built our house with xtra strong trusses, as some rooves have caved in from weight of snow. :guilty:

One good thing to come out of this mess is DS's flight was temp set back to AFG :goodvibes. Sadly northeastern AGF. has suffered some 17 avalances - it's feared that 100 have died thus far with troops having rescued some 2,500people trapped in cars and busses. :guilty:

My heart and prayers go out to the many who may be suffering. I called my Mom and thankfully she's ok, all our family are keeping tabs on each other.
We're crossing our fingers, thankfully we're blessed to be sitting here all toasty thus far, safe and sound, and we have everything we need. :goodvibes

Everyone bundle up and stay safe. We will get through this!!

I live in Chester County in PA. Saturday, we got 25.1 inches and today we are in the "bullseye" zone. We are estimated to get another 20 - 24 inches. I am only 5' 1" tall. I think I will need one of those bike flags to put on my head so if I get lost I can be found:rotfl2:

Tina, don't forget to save some snow for Matt for when he gets back. He might want some when:

-It is really warm and snuggly in bed and you hit him with a snowball.
-He is in the shower, you know, it is nice and hot in there and you just happen to toss one in with him.
