Officially Freaked Out by Photopass

The bands have good range too. I had a set of bands in my purse and one on my wrist. The bands in my purse were connected to a different MDX account. When I got home, I found some pics on one MDX and some on the other. 7DMT showed up on both accounts. It must have really good sensors. This could be fun if you get a set of bands from friends or family. You could make funny faces and gestures for them in the pics or wave hello.

In four trips since magic bands arrived, I can honestly say I have never gotten pictures of strangers on my account.

This does have me wondering, though, what is it about a photo of you that makes you feel someone has some power over you? To the point you feel violated. It's just a photo, and if that bothers you so much, you should be careful everywhere you go. I can assure you 100% that every retail location you enter has photos and video of you, and your kids if they are with you.
A photo does not give anyone access to your life, your information or your secrets (unless you think no one saw you pick your nose)
If you feel so strongly, you can always do as others suggested and ditch the magic bands. But I am not about to give up the ease and convenience of photo pass on my band for a little paranoia.

I should clarify that I'm not talking about the ride photos with other people in adjacent cars, but instead posed photos of kids and also of other kids, couples, families on individual rides. These should've been sent to just those people and for some reason they ended up on ours. That in conjunction with the fact that each photo we were in listed the exact time and location really spoiled a lot of the carefree happiness I associate with being on a Disney vacation. I will now feel like I am being tracked every second of the day. Just like I never want to see Mickey with his head off, I would rather not know about their creepy Big Brother monitoring.

I have gotten pictures of strangers, without anyone in my family in them, ever trip since photopass started.

You don't need to use the MB if it bothers you. You can just use the plastic RFID card. It'll still scan at rides and tapstiles, but it won't identify you on rides ... If you want a Ride photo, you can tap your card to the mickey head under the screen where your photo is.
That isn't completely accurate, several rides, like 7dmt only have pictures for MB riders.

I just returned and I have several areas of "confused" pictures turning up in photo pass as well like that for rides.

There is a reason why CMs call them MAGIC-TRACKERS .

The OP just so happens to be seeing it rather than reading it.

It is creepy, WDW knows EXACTLY where your Magic Tracker is at all times when you are on WDW property.

They know when you eat, when you get to your bus stop, when you go to the bathroom and which one you went into, which store you went into, which areas of the store you lingered in, what you bought.... everything your band did or passed by. They know it all.

The question is, how many people aka "affiliates" are they sharing all those habits with?

It's creepy, because it is.

If this was my every day life, it would bother me, if I were doing things at Disney that I shouldn't be doing (I am not saying you are, by any means) it would bother me. I could care less about Disney watching me every second I'm on their property, or taking my picture a million times. When this practice gets to be the norm, an every day occurrence in my world, then I will be upset. No one other than Disney will probably ever put out the $ to do this, lol. But I also knew about this before I saw all my pics, if I hadn't known I may have been creeped out.

My point was that if the OP doesn't want to wear a MB she doesn't have to. She's obviously not interested in ride photos anyway.
And I really don't care if Disney knows I'm in the bathroom. Get back to me when they have video of it and I'll join team freaked out.

Disney has been watching us with cameras in the parks for years and years.

Magic bands are the only thing I like about the new crazy madness hot mess IT roll out.

You computer and cell phone can track what you looking at too.

Wireless video baby monitors can be hacked and I can watch you and your baby...

There are a lot of things that can track us.

I loved the picture of me opening the box at home to take out my magic bands... hey... wait a minute...

Did you have MDE open on your cell phone, when you where opening the box, was there a video?

:love1::love1: your silly that was a good one.

I am ok with the whole thing and am looking forward to the photos. However devils advocate for a second....what if you had an especially horrible photo on a ride, someone got it who is a jerk or a young person who thinks it's funny. They make a meme making fun of you and it goes viral....that would stink.

I can't think of any other negative ramifications. These camera are also used to deter crime, catch people who commit them, help find lost people. I understand how it can be a feeling that some people can't get used to but for me it is how it is, it will not change and so we make the best of it and enjoy the benefits.

I'll admit, when I first realized that Big Mickey head would be following me around the resort and parks, I was a little whiney " how dare they, my privacy" etc etc. Here's the thing, in a free society, if you want to take advantage of a product you have to agree to the conditions. As pp have said you can get a short range rfid card instead of MB. There's a reason they make the MB so darn cute, who doesn't want one?
As with FP+ , if you really don't like it, find other resort locations. I highly reccommend Dollywood, we had a week there in 2011 and loved it. Dolly won' t follow you around.

Not only were they able to identify us, but each picture was time stamped with the date, location and time. The whole big brother aspect of those bands is not something I am comfortable with.

I know. I told my wife I had a headache and had to go back to the resort. But really I just wanted time away from my annoying family. So I went on Space Mountain a few times and then met back up with them a couple hours later.

Then we get home and she's looking at our pictures and she's like "when did you ride Space Mountain without us"....

awkward.

Thanks for that Disney!

I realize that people can snap pictures of my kids anywhere (including in their bathing suits at the water parks) but this just makes me feel violated.

I'm a good looking man so I KNOW that everywhere I walk women are checking me out. It's just part of being a human being: people are going to be checking you out and there's nothing you can do about it.

I think we all need to accept that not much is private anymore. Uncomfortable, but true. There are cameras everywhere, except rest rooms. I never had a doubt that the info Disney gets from the magic bands is used to market more effectively. Why wouldn't they take advantage of a tool they paid a fortune for?
If I surf the web for a crockpot, amazingly, it appears on my FB page in an advertisement the next time I log in. Technological advancements have created this Big Brother effect and I don't think it will go away any time soon. Personally, is doesn't really bother me but I can see where it creeps some people out.

I think Disney had changed quite a bit. It is more about making profit than people having a good time.
There are RFID everywhere so they know every step you take no matter if you get pictures als well.
The private citizen is an Illusion anyway but I would still complain to the company

Cameras are a fact of life and have been for quite some time. Having a picture of me out there in no way ties to any personal identifying info, other than my face.

What bothers me is the ability to link you and your location via the MagicBand. You are now tied together with a picture and location and all the other info Disney has on you. Of course, Disney says they aren't tracking you and others say they are only interested in crowd movement/data in the abstract, but that can change at any time.

Disney isn't in your private life. When you are on Disney property, you're on private property, and your rights as a private citizen are no longer in existence. There is nothing to complain about.
