Official Wine & Dine 2014

I'm running in the 5k and my DD5 is doing the kids race. Is there a bus that will take me directly to the WWS from the finish line? Or do I need to take my resort bus back and catch a WWS bus from there? I'm thinking that I won't have time to do my race, go back to the hotel, get her and go to her race; so I'll probably just have to meet them at the race?

Does anyone know when the corrals will be posted? This is my first race, so I'm not sure how far out they let you know. Thanks!

About 30 days prior. Usually they slip a link onto the RunDisney page .... It gets posted here nearly immediately! :) Brian

Hey guys, just looking for a little advice here.

I've been feeling pretty lousy for the last 3 weeks (haven't been able to do much training) and yesterday I was diagnosed with mono. I know strenuous exercise is a big no-no with mono and my doctor told me that I'm not allowed to train until she gives me the go ahead. That being said I am so incredibly frustrated. I'd been training well up until I got sick and could comfortably go 5/6 miles. Also, I had finally been feeling better and more energized and ready to get back into running before I suddenly started feeling sicker and went to the doctor. Now I'm worried that I won't be allowed to run for weeks and that once I am cleared I won't be able to get to the level necessary to run the half.

Have any of you ever been derailed by mono when training for a big race? How long before you were cleared to run again? Any tips?

I know it's a possibility that I might need to defer my race entry until next year, but I really only want to do that as a last resort (even if it means a really slow half).

Never had mono to have any tips or advice there. But did check the website and wanted to make sure you know the deferral capacity already looks to be at 95%. The deferral fee jumps from $45 to $70 after September 25th, too, so you may want to keep an eye on the capacity in case anyone else runs to defer before the fee increase.

I know that the food kiosks from the festival will be open during the finish line party, but does anyone know if there are any (slightly more substantial) food offerings open during the party?

I'm cancelling a reservation for 2 for the Brown derby on Monday November th if someone would like it. I decided to go to Mickey's Very Special Christmas Party :)

Does anyone know if all of the resorts' Christmas decorations will be in full swing by the wine and dine half? I wanted to go around and look at the decorations and the huge gingerbread tree in the grand.

Does anyone know if you are able to drive yourself to Animal Kingdom for the 5K? I thought I had made a reservation at one of the All Star resorts and somehow it didn't go through. All of the value and moderate resorts that offer transportation are completely booked up at this time! We made a reservation off property for Friday night (checking in at the Beach Club saturday after the race), and we rented a car. Any help on how to get to the race?

I seem to remember Sunshine Seasons being open.

I think the resorts don't go into full Christmas mode until closer to Thanksgiving.:sad1:

Yes. You can absolutely drive to the Animal Kingdom for the 5K. There will be nobody at the toll plaza, so there will be no parking fee. You do have the added benefit if you drive to leave anything in your vehicle that you will not run with.

Please remember that they are inspecting everything upon entrance to the start area. Not just bags and back packs. During Dopey and the Princess, they were directing, "If it has a zipper or a pocket, this line. Nothing to inspect, walk through."

Need some info about the Run Expo that is Saturday afternoon? What goes on there? What's that all about? Trying to plan my day at DW and figure out if I want to go to that. Thanks!

If you are participating in the half marathon, you need to pick up your race packet (including your race bib) from the expo at WWoS.

Other than that there are vendors and exhibitors are set up to sell their wares and talk about running stuff.

How long will it take me to pick up race packets? My DH and I are running the half and my two boys are in the kids races (the 1 mile). Is it feasible to pick them up Saturday morning before the boys' race, or should I find time Friday to do it?

TIA.

I was just going to ask this same question! First time doing the kids race and that was my hope too!

Short answer - it depends.

Some of the line move really fast, some not so much .... Others prob have better insite than I ... But last year it seemed to take a while

Can the wife come with me to the Expo even though she isn't running?

I'm not sure what time the kids' races are, but there should be time to pick them all up beforehand. I would give at least an hour to do it though, as you need to drop off your waiver/receive your bib in one building and then pick up the rest of your stuff (the shirt and whatever else may be given away) in another building.

Yes. The expo is open to anyone. They do not check for proof of participation in the event.

The kids races start at 10 on the track and the expo opens at 9. We will need to get bibs for the half and the kids race (I believe). Doable?

In my opinion, NO. Not doable. Go on Friday to save yourself the hassle and stress.
