Official Wine & Dine 2014

Sorry if this has been asked but, are the corral assignments listed for both races? We're doing the 5K and I'm looking at the list wondering if it is the same for both races or if this is just for the half.

They don't usually list the corrals on the website ahead of time for the 5k. Some Disney races will list them in the program, but apparently Wine and Dine chose not to. So you'll find out most likely on Friday of race weekend unless they to actually upload it.

Thanks for the replies. My trainer is switching me to water workouts while it heals apparently (he didn't actually say what he was doing but he asked me if I had access to a pool after I told him I was injured so not much more I can read into that). And I am going to one of the orthopedic clinics in town to make sure this isn't anything worse than I am making it out to be (I went there for my ankle last year and now I'm going back). And maybe to get some PT done on it. Not sure about the later yet. Will see what the doctor says.

Can you drive to the expo - yes

Can you get dropped off at WWoS the night of the race - no. See the program for more info...If AS sports is a Host resort just take a bus to the start or have your wife drop you off at Epcot and take the shuttle to the start from there

So is taking a taxi out too? We are staying at OKW and didn't want to bother traveling over to SSR just to get on the bus...but it sounds like we may have to? And is it the same for both the 5k and the 1/2? Other than the time, of course...

It honestly doesn't say anything about allowing Half drop off so I wouldn't risk it. Best recommendation if you want to avoid walking over? Take the resort bus to Epcot with plenty of time before the first bus to WWOS is supposed to leave. From there catch the race transport bus to WWOS.

As for the 5k it has a completely different set of rules and does allow parking at Animal Kingdom. So you might be able to take a taxi. Check the race program.

Okay, I'll bite. Is there any way around boarding busses at 7:30ish PM for a 10 PM run? I don't really want to sit around the corral waiting forever... a lot more relaxing watching college fb in my hotel room!

So what's the latest I can wait to go WWsports and is there any way to get there besides busses? Kinda nervous I might wait too long and a bus pull up that's full and I might miss it!

Anybody called reservations recently? We're in the All Star Music and sure wish we could move up but everything is f-u-l-l. Am wondering if this is the time when people maybe realize they aren't going to make it and start canceling?

And YES ... I did work on my Tigger costume tonight! Wicking material shirt with stripes!

I hate to be the one to say this but there really isn't. I have no clue how bad it gets or if it even happens with Wine and Dine but most of the Disney races at WDW get knarly traffic jams the later you board your bus. There's a reason why they tell you to be to try to be on that bus by 8. If you get in line later then you might be getting their later.

Trust me you'll feel lot less panicked if you get on the bus earlier. I've had the incident of getting caught twice in the runDisney traffic jam (both at Princess) because I didn't want to get to the bus early enough. And it is nerve wrecking as hell.

Plus there has been reported incidents of drivers getting lost before. Actually my first WDW race weekend I talked to someone who was on a lost bus for the WDW Half. Took them 30-40 minutes to get where they needed to be (Epcot).

Your really best off getting there a bit earlier.

The first year I did W&D there people still on buses trying to get in and the race had started. So after seeing hat I don't risk it anymore.

Thanks for the heads up on the waivers and bib numbers. DH and I are in the last corral, as expected. Can anyone with last corral experience comment on the character lines? We are training at an 11 minute mile and plan to make up time (especially on the highway portion of the run) but there are a few characters I'd like my picture with (most notably, any Star Wars characters and Lotso or Bullseye, if they are out). Any characters already in the parks we plan to skip. I don't mind 10 minutes waits but I am thinking they will be so long that we'll get swept if we wait :worried: We do plan to be at the front of the corral early so hopefully that will help.

Also, what is everyone's taper plan? This is my first longer race (I have done 10K's in the past with no taper to speak of). I had planned to run 8 miles on the Saturday before, 3 miles on Tuesday and then maybe just a 1-2 mile shake-out run on Friday morning before the expo. Does this sound reasonable?

It's coming up fast! We leave 3 weeks on Tuesday!

THANKS SO MUCH! This is exactly the info I want. If I gotta get on the bus sooner then I just will. I don't need the headaches and nerves. This is a very special run for me and I want to get it right and do it right.

On the bus early ... CHECK!

E for the half, but an running with friends so I will start in I. Pretty sure I'm in A for the 5K...??!?!?!!?!!?

Not sure if it has changed. But DH and I ran the Jungle Jingle in 2011 (which was actually a Halloween race back then) and 2012 and corals were just done by the honor system. You line up in the area that posts the time per mile that you run. In 2011, the race was supposed to open in the morning and I happened to check it before bed, saw it opened and signed DH and I up. We got bib numbers 40 and 41 :thumbsup2 It was DHs first race and pretty sure the first time he ran more than a mile :rotfl2: so we were definitely not placed by ability.

They moved away from the honor system I think in January of this year. It was to get ready for the Dopey runners at WDW Full weekend. And they made the flip everywhere.

Nope, corrals now. I know/am pretty sure I am in A because for last year's JJ5K I was in A. And my bib for this year is ~440 less than it was last year.

And my theory on why they have corrals for the 5K is so they can spread people out a bit. With the old method, everyone lined up based on their anticipated pace as DCBride said (whether they were being honest or not), but then it was just one big mass start right? Now they stagger it, probably to try to control course crowding.

I also think they assign bib numbers based on when people register for the race. That's the only way I can explain my low bib number...I put an anticipated pace of 9:00-11:00/mile, which doesn't seem like A-material to me. But I signed up almost as soon as registration opened.

Hey guys my crazy friends have now talked me into trying to run wine and dine with them after we just all did tower together.

Does anyone have a W&D Bib that they are looking to sell?

Please let me know!!

So for some reason Animal Kingdom lodge is not a host resort. What are my options for getting to the race? I know I can take a bus to a park and then to a host resort and then over, but is there an easier way? Can you get a bus right from a park over to the world of sports?

I know, I feel your pain. A taxi would be the easiest, not free, but easy. And it is crazy that Boardwalk/Beach and Yacht are all host, when those lucky ducks can walk home!

We are at Bay Lake. So to get home after the race. I have to take a bus to Poly, but then I am stuck since I can't walk or take monorail at that time. So, I will have to taxi from Poly to Bay Lake. That just seems silly. :confused3

I swear with the Princess, there were a lot more host hotels...

With Princess and the Jan. marathon weekend, EVERY resort hotel is a host hotel. It seems like since that should be how it is for every runDisney event- if you are staying on property, race transportation should be part of the deal.

The difference is about oh 10,000 more runners for January and or princess which is why not every where is a host for the other races..

I am staying at AKL as well. We are actually renting a car since it is not a host resort. My plan is to park at Epcot then take the bus from there. When the race is over we'll just drive back to AKL. We did the math for taking taxi's to/from all of the race events and renting a car for 2 days was cheaper (we got a great discount through my DH's work).

Just thinking about packing... what do you think the temperature will be like? Should I be bringing one of my throwaway jackets to keep warm in and then toss it after we start? I know most races have someone sweep and then the garments get given to charity. Any thoughts?
