Official Wine & Dine 2014

Treadmill. Which I hate. But it's -4.

Unfortunately, I don't have a treadmill, and nobody here in GA is going anywhere. We got hit by a pretty bad bout of ice midday yesterday, and some people are still stranded in their cars over 20 hours later. Pretty much everything is closed....

Oh well... at least I get to go sledding on the little bit of snow that came with the ice! I bought this sled 4 years ago, and haven't used it yet!

Ah, Georgia! Makes sense. Snow is not an oddity here, so we're all prepared to be shut in. ;)

I am with you about hating the treadmill. I have found that with the right layers, I can run outside down to a wind chill of 0. If it's below zero, I plod along in my basement.

I'm in! My parents ran the WDW half and my sister ran the full... I was also slated for the full but injured myself and had to defer. After watching the runners this year I think I have decided to forgo the marathon and just do this instead. This is way more "my style". My sister and friend are joining me.

For those of you that have done W&D before, what is the party like?

So.... what do y'all do when it completely ices over in your neck of the woods, and you can't train outside????

Third the threadmill thing. I've actually starting to learn the threadmill because its a place where I can very easily push my speed. I sometimes have a bit of a problem pushing myself when I'm running outside during training runs. So threadmills have become my new best friends as far as training go.

I'm in! Never been a runner in my life, but after being in WDW marathon weekend, I got the itch. Dragging the hubby in too. Gonna start small. 5K sounds good this time. Already planning for the TOT in 2015, then on to the halfs. Love the excitement of being with all my fellow Disney Geeks!
Question about the Expo...I really want a pair of the NB shoes, how early do you need to be at the expo to get them? I heard marathon weekend they had a two hour wait at opening.

I ran my fastest half after doing a lot of training on the tm due to weather. I agree, I push my speed much harder. I have learned to be careful though, because while it is great to push, speed too soon=injuries. :( But it is definitely a good tool. :)

Our Y has an indoor track (1 lap = 1/10 mile) and it works great for speed too. Run a lap fast, run a lap slow, repeat. :) Plus there are other runners, and I don't like being passed. :rotfl2: So I work a little harder sometimes.

I can't speak for WDW marathon weekend, but the following weekend at Tink they used a reservation system. You got in line to register for your time slot, then just came back during your time. They started taking reservations before the expo even opened. It was very convenient and smooth.

The reservation system was used from WDW Marathon weekend, where it was introduced. The two hour wait that BlackPearl695 mentioned was the line to GET a number/text.. then you had to wait around for 3-4 hours before getting a text to come back to the NB booth. Tink Weekend had similar lines on the 1st and 2nd days of the expo, and the 3rd day was quietest, though not to say it was a short line.

I'd say you still had to get to the expo extra early to get the shoes, however, from my experience at W&D last year, by this time of year, the demand is less and you're more likely to get a pair of shoes. :) I got my Mickey 2013 shoes no wait, no line, no problem, and I didn't come extra early or anything.

I plan on signing up! It will be my first Run Disney event! I'll be running my first half marathon 2 weeks before this, I have goals for that race. W&D will be a pure fun run for me, my only goal is to finish before the balloon ladies! My husband will join me and our friends haven't said a definite yes, but I think they will come around, its her birthday weekend! Who wouldn't want to spend their birthday with THE mouse! Hubby and I will be be going on a Disney Cruise after the race! I'll probably run the Castaway Cay 5k as well. I'm super excited for this trip! NO KIDS ALLOWED!!!!! :dancer:

I'll be careful. I have a race at the end of the month that I need to make sure I am up to speed for. So I am pushing it a bit right now. But I think I should be okay. I know what to look for. And I'm gently increasing the speed over time not doing huge jumps in speed at once if that makes sense.

Mom and I were talking. I'm doing a Dumbo in September but I'm talking about doing a half before then just a freshen upper since and to get my sea legs again. I have my surgery next month and I would like to get one "normal race" in before Dumbo if I could. So I'm looking at running the 2nd Half of the Wipro San Francisco Marathon. Run the course before its one of my favorite races. Would love to do it okay. My trainers still on the fence on this one though. What's nice is I'm pretty sure if I do get a really good time for this is it would make the Wine and Dine cut off (judging by the dates for this year I'm thinking the cut off for corral changes is going to be August 1st).

And I still need to find a 10k for post op that's pre-Dumbo corral cut offs. That's going to be interesting.

In giving this some more thought, I think I'm going to skip the 1/2 and just do the 5k that weekend. The 10:00 p.m. start time for my first real race seems just a bit too intimidating (I am SO not a night owl). In addition, two friends are coming with me, and they are running the 5k. So I'd be up early and then run late.

I'm still going to train, though. Just to see I can. And then maybe I'll run the Princess 1/2? Kind of bummed to decide this but I think it will save me from disappointment.

Speaking of threadmill runs. I really wish I had one in my apartment right now (a threadmill that is). Because even though I live in a complex getting to the my complex's gym requires walking across an unplowed road (they used to have plows where they have gone to I would really like to know) possibly throw a few inches of snow. All while dressed in shorts (since its way too hot in the gym to run in pants and zip off anything drives me nuts). I don't even want to think about how much fun this is going to be on Tuesday or Thursday where we have predictions of lows in the singles/negatives on top of more snow! I might just do the lazy thing and drive my car to the office and back. 10 minute walk be damned. Normally I have no problem braving the elements but I just am not in the mood this weekend.

So, after the ice melted enough for me to even consider going outside, I ended up running on the asphalt instead of the sidewalk last week. Now, we're at a balmy 54*, and it's gorgeous out.... I honestly can't believe the weatherman when he says it's going to snow again on Thursday...

When I started running two weeks ago, it was my goal to run one mile in under 15 minutes by the end of four weeks (I started at 17:30/mile). Now that it's so much warmer outside, my body's decided it's okay not to creak the whole distance, and I ran two miles at a 14:27/mile pace. Hallelujah! I'm beginning to have faith in doing a half by November. :-D

Just a quick note about my experience... I just started running for the first time last April. I started with C25K, then C210K, then continued training. I did the Tower of Terror 10-miler (10pm start) AND the 5K that same morning in early Oct last year -- all after having walked around WDW for 9 days! I had IT band and knee issues while training, and have exercise asthma. I will NEVER be a speed demon (!!), but completed these two raced on the same day easily under the allotted times, and had a great time doing it. Did the 5K with my sister and my son, and the 10-miler with my sister.

Just to say that it is possible IF you decide you want to give it a shot! :goodvibes

Thank you so much for sharing! You've given me some things to think about. :)

Earlier today I said "the Disneyland Half was too expensive, I don't think I'm doing any more Disney runs after that one".

And then the Wine&Dine popped into my head.

I wonder how it differs from the TOT? Can anyone sell me on it? Maybe I'd be willing to do this one. :rolleyes1

Good Morning from snowy NY. I was just wondering if you had any advice on nutrition for training, especially with longer runs. Any advice or books/websites that you have found helpful would be appreciated. Thanks a bunch!
