Official Wine & Dine 2014

Did the registration happen as close to the PMH weekend as it did this year?? I was part of the PMH thread and so many people coming off the 'high' of the race weekend were talking about signing up for W&D. I wonder if the proximity of the registration date to the PMH weekend affected how fast it filled up?

Why is it bothering you that it sold out quickly? It's the same amount of people, whether it sells out in 27 hours vs. five months. I guess I just don't see the issue here? :confused3

I think it's the idea that Disney might see that it will sell, so they raise the costs or lower the fun, etc. Since Disney keeps doing just that in all other arenas, it's not out of the realm of possibilities.

(of course, I haven't had "fun" at a Disney race yet, LOL, but I just know that this is going to be the first WDW race I love!)

I think it more a back to back race play where you could run two halves on two coasts in two weeks and receive the C2C at the same time.

I am registered! This will be my first Wine and Dine but I have done 2 Princess Halfs. Is anyone else having trouble logging into the online ticket store? It keeps telling me my code is incorrect:confused3.

Use WINEDINE14. That worked for me.

The party is a hard ticket event meaning that you do not need a park pass to gain entrance into the park; only the party ticket and then only during the times that the party ticket is good for. Not sure but I think the party ticket will allow entrance at least as early as 10pm.

I can't be 100 percent sure because I don't have my old program in front of me. But I think it might have actually been as early as 6 pm last year. The party didn't officially start until 10 but I think you could go into the park and wander around starting at 6 if memory serves me correct. Anyone else with a copy of the program that can back me up on this? Normally I can pull it up on my browser history but I can't seem to find it.

Question: my friend and I are NOT doing the after party (we're doing the 5K and I think by 10pm I will be very, very sleepy. Will Epcot be open until the usual 9pm time for regular guests (we'll have park passes), or will it close at 7pm to everyone who's not a party-goer?

Thanks!

The rundisney site says 7:00. I would think that from 10-1 the park would be wonderful. We usually enter around 1am and have found it quite crowded. We went on Soarin, walked to American Adventure, got a burger :rotfl2: took the boat back to Future World and got on the bus at 4:30am. We were moving pretty slowly ;)

Yes! I agree with this! Many who ran GSC were hoping that something similar would happen in Nov as lots of the participants were still on the 3 medal high.

I went to PHM, flew home on Sunday, the night of the race and I signed up for W&D 4 days later using the early registration. I joked with DH that my credit card will have the expo from PHM and registration for W&D on the same billing cycle!

I was going to invite my college senior daughter to run in Nov tomorrow night (she ran it 2 years ago) when I meet her for dinner. Guess that is not happening!

I did not notice the kids races on the rundisney page. I thought I signed up for half and kids races at the same time last year. Am I missing something?

The site isn't working for me either :(

Are you keeping it all CAPS? The code is case sensitive and has been working for me since shortening it to WINEDINE14. I just checked again and still working for me.

I am with you.... It did not take much to predict the land rush. I am a little surprised at the time, but thought a week or less.

I see folks being miffed who may have been set up for a perfect legacy finish. If there are any of those, a quick letter to runD this week would probably pry open a slot to assure perfect status.

I think it's not just how quick it sold out. It's the new "meet up" idea they are selling at DL, it's the electronic queue for NB shoes and the quick sell out of much of the merchandise before the afternoon of the second day of the princess expo and tink expo. And the photo bombing. And the 15 min character photo lines. And the post-castle sweeping at princess. And the peeling tink car magnets and hand wash only pint glasses and cheaper quality commemorative necklaces.

Don't get me wrong, I still want to run disney races but just in the 3 years I've been involved, I've seen a change. I know all of that seems unrelated to why someone might be upset about the race selling out quickly but somehow, the idea that you sign up to get a reminder email and may or may not get it and when u do, it's the day before and let's just say, you were hit with the flu and didn't check it. Yes you can say that we should all be watching the run disney site if its so important and we should know the date that it will open but I'm not really upset for me or for people who are monitoring it (unless they truly sat there just when it opened and tried and got shut out). I'm saddened because if the wine and dine had sold out in 24 hours in 2011 my sister would never have been able to run it because she didn't think about running a half until much after registration opened as a response to a situation that occurred in her personal life. and if she hadn't run in 2011 I would never have run in 2012 and I would not be the person I am today, physically or emotionally. I knew about marathon weekend and never thought of doing it. But wine and dine was the perfect introduction to run disney for me and I'm so glad it was the one race that didn't sell out too quickly.

I'm pretty excited to be doing Wine and Dine for my 3rd year in a row!! This time I'm bringing a total change of clothes and nice comfy pajamas for the after party.

Is anyone else doing the NYC Marathon the Sunday before? I know this is probably a poor life choice, but I found a great group who was going down and I mean, if I'm there, how can I NOT run? Exactly.

The kids races are there. I registered my son after registering for the half. I didn't think the percentages showed up until the event reaches 50% capacity.

Anyone doing the Give Kids the World Gingerbread Run the morning if the W & D Half?

I won't be running, but I live near the finish line so I'll be around to see all the amazing runners! I'm thinking about volunteering at the marathon this year.

Honestly, if we didn't have that legacy thing going, I think it would be much easier to let this go. This is the only disney race I will probably ever be legacy for, so I just keep coming back. :)

I'm in this same boat, Rose. I'm legacy, too. I ran this one in 2010 when it seemed like a bit of a "sleeper" race (no pun intended). I ran this one injured last year, just to keep my legacy status. Now it's hit the big time, and I'm not sure I like it, either. But like you say, it's my issue.

I registered early this year, too, and I hope I can stay legacy, but we'll see what 2015 brings.

Off to train now...

We currently have a reservation at Animal Kingdom Lodge. It is not listed as a host resort. Is this going to be a major problem when it comes time to get to the 5k at 6am and to get back from the half at 2am?

We may be able to switch but it would probably be at Saratoga Springs and we don't really want to be that far out.
