Official Wine & Dine 2014

I totally understand. When I see $200 for the Avengers and nothing else with it, like a party ticket, that's what I was thinking about. Have a great time!!

I think with the the Avengers being higher, I am a little more understanding simply because it isn't all on property. You'd also be running through Anaheim, which requires Disney to get certain permits and such. Still a high price, but the consideration of having to go off property to run a big portion of the race makes me a *little* more sympathetic.

Regardless, I do love W&D a lot! Have a great time also! :goodvibes

Reports are starting to flood in now that the race is sold out. So ends general registration I guess? 27 hours to sell out that's a record for Wine and Dine.

I think it a little more basic....

supply and demand. Even at $200, it will sell out within hours if not minutes.

Oh I don't disagree with you. Disney knows people will pay regardless (obviously we are since I just paid $185 for a race that I paid $155 for two years ago). But I do think there is also something to be said about the fact that anything that takes place off property has more logistics going into it that Disney will likely have the people pay for in some form...primarily monetarily.

Dh and I had toyed with the idea of a Disney Half saying if we ever did a half we would want to do a Disney one. I think I literally made the registration with 10 minutes to spare! So excited!

Can anyone suggest a good resort to stay at? I know they have some deals at the different levels. Any one of them better for convenience?

That's true, but it might balance out a bit when you consider the cost of the entertainment on Disney property in Orlando. I'm not sure whether or not runDisney compensates high school bands and others along the roads between parks, but they do have more characters and Disney employees along the Orlando roadways that are almost certainly being paid for their additional time. Likewise for the races with after parties, you have the park employees keeping irregular hours and likely being paid overtime.:confused3

This is our first W&D, but if you're looking to stay on property, all the event host resorts provide bus transportation to and from the event. Those resorts which are closer to EPCOT might shorten the trip both ways a little, but otherwise it should be convenient whichever resort you choose.

For our part, I just changed our reservation from All-Star Sports booked through Disney directly to Port Orleans - French Quarter through the runDisney reservation group. It was a difference of $55 to move from regular priced value to running priced moderate hotel for two nights. POFQ is only marginally closer than the All-Stars, but I figured we'd get as close as possible within our price range and stay at a new resort for us! So long as you're at a host resort, they'll take care of you, though. :)

Agree. It's definitely supply and demand. I do think both coasts offer great race experiences that can't be compared to many other non-disney races- between the environment, the excellent water stops, shirts, awesome medals, and for wine and dine, the party. The sheer amount of ports potties and powerade and water bottles is staggering when you see it set up along the course. And all of the disney cm on property- our monorail attendant on princess morning was so into pumping us up and talking to us about it and cheering us on. Can't beat it. But it is expensive. But a heck of a good time! I'm glad I've gotten involved in run disney, it changed my life. But I don't have any rundisney plans right now until DS is a little older and it doesn't have to be part of what for us is a family vacation budget.

Of course, I'm very tempted to try avengers in 2015.

But the best "value" for me was the GSC and tink for pink coast to coast. For 3 races and one training season, I got 5 awesome medals and two awesome weekends! I planned WAY in advance and managed to get great airfare too and luckily, tink was a school holiday weekend.

I know there are overhead costs Disney has to pay for with any of their races, all I'm saying is that I tend to be a *little* more sympathetic towards a higher cost for anything that takes place off property. Disney can afford those off property costs no matter what, but I have no doubt they also have the runners foot that bill.

And if w&d is going to sell out this quickly, then who needs the party? They can make it smaller, spend less money on it, etc. Less entertainment on the course. Ok, I am being a little cynical here. I don't know why this is bothering me so much. I just liked it that it wasn't one of those races that sold out in a day--or an hour. But now I guess it is.

Rose its bothering me too. I was really hoping wine and dine would stay what it was but maybe it just the anniversary. It is also probably due to the increased attention that Disney has brought to all runDisney with the newest challenges - dopey, glass slipper, dumbo and now avengers. Smart of them, but does affect things. I still think wine and dine will stay "small" as long as they don't add another event to it. By its nighttime nature, I think it will stay "small" by default. Also maybe people are just caught up in all the growing runDisney excitement of 2014 and we will see what happens in a few years. It will probably settle out a bit.

We're doing the 5k, not the half, so we'll have to buy party tickets. Are park tickets needed as well as party tickets? I assume yes bc most events usually require them, but it doesn't say explicitly (that I saw) so I just want to make sure.

Why is it bothering you that it sold out quickly? It's the same amount of people, whether it sells out in 27 hours vs. five months. I guess I just don't see the issue here? :confused3

It's my issue. :)

The first year we had months to register. Even last year, we had over a month. I am just not a fan of the drama around registration. Just my issue. :)

Im floored that it sold out so quickly. Last year we had almost two months to register, we have already made our reservation for where to stay, and now we can't even run the race! Very disappointed.

The party is a hard ticket event meaning that you do not need a park pass to gain entrance into the park; only the party ticket and then only during the times that the party ticket is good for. Not sure but I think the party ticket will allow entrance at least as early as 10pm.

I am with you.... It did not take much to predict the land rush. I am a little surprised at the time, but thought a week or less.

I see folks being miffed who may have been set up for a perfect legacy finish. If there are any of those, a quick letter to runD this week would probably pry open a slot to assure perfect status.
