Official Wine and Dine 2017 thread

Hello, brand new runner here. I signed up to do the 10k while my two experienced running friends are doing the 1/2. I'm currently on the second week of couch to 5k. Today was a struggle but hoping that I'll do better on my next run. Has anyone had good experience with couch to 5k? Going to complete that and then tack on the 5k to 10k program.

I used couch-to-5K when I was first starting out. It did work for me. My biggest tip - if you feel like you need to repeat a week before moving on, it's definitely okay to do that. Good luck!

I'm a graduate of couch to 5k! My biggest tip is that if you are having trouble completing a week, slow down a bit! Still complete the intervals but it's ok not to have a distance PR every single week. I got a little too excited sometimes on the run portions about trying to cover more distance that I think I was pushing too hard too fast at times. Once I realized I don't have to run at max effort every single time, it helped me a lot.
If you don't mind slogging through a lot of journals notes...I have a run journal in my sig and the first big chunk of it was me trying to get through C25k. I was very much in the "figuring things out mode" :)
PS: You'll do great!

I also used couch to 5k when I started running 2 years ago. I remember having those tough days but if you hang in there it gets better! I love the quote "It hurts now but one day it will be your warm up." I would repeat something similiar to myself when it got hard and it turned out to be very true. I'm sure you're going to rock that 10k!

I also used C25K, but honestly I found other intervals that worked better for me so I switched to the Galloway method. I used the 10K training plan on the Disney site for my first 10K and it worked well!

Thanks! I was just thinking I was going to need to repeat this past workout since I ended up walking the second half. I know I've got plenty of time, no need to rush for November.

Almost 4 weeks for what seems to be the hot distance right now....I think rD should take notice. Their cash cow might be drying up.

Yes. Please stop charging so much so that my future children can go to college. With them pushing up the registration dates this year, it really hit me how ridiculously expensive these are and how much I spend yearly!!

I'm seriously considering signing up for W&D17, but am hesitant about the change from a nighttime race to a morning race. Is the post-race party still fun/worth it? Also, the last time I did W&D was in 2012, and I was solo - would my husband be able to join me for the post-race party or do I need to purchase something (chEAR squad) to get him in, too?

He would need a ticket to enter the party. I believe for 2016, they were $80 each.

As for 'is it worth it', its what you make of it.

I don't think the after party is anywhere as good as it was with the evening race. I would not spend money on a ticket if it were not free.

Our party of 5 felt the party was worth it. I was just in New Orleans running the Rock n Roll Half there and came across many rDers!! Talked with several who did W&D 2016 and are doing it again in 2017 -- they all felt the party was worth it. Very subjective... as always...

I would not want to attend a party immediately after running a half. Subjective for sure! :)

For me it always has depended upon how the run went. Some years, when the run was crummy, I wasn't in the mood to party and moped around. Other years, I had a good run and didn't want to stop when they turned the music off and the lights on.

Last year was different and for me, something in the negative column--the endorphins were all gone. I wanted to be there and had a decent time, but it felt disconnected.

I agree that not having the party right after the race makes it feel like another hard ticket event. That is why I don't feel the party is worth paying for as I see it as a 3 hour hard ticket event. If they want it to be a race party, I think it should be right after the race.

I did feel like there was some excitement and energy missing from the after party, but gosh darn it, I was going to be there. The only problem is, I was exhausted! 3am wakeups and a party that starts at 10pm are tough. This year I'm hoping for a longer nap so that I can enjoy the party more.

Registered for the 10K and 5K and I am so excited... This will be my first 10K ever. I ran the jingle jungle 5K in 2015 and loved my first rundisney experience.
