Do it!

Usually the half sells out the day it opens. This year is the first year in a while that it didn't happen.

Over two weeks past general registration and there is still availability for the half and challenge, In fact it looks like all events are still open.

OK. I need a little convincing. My friend and I have been talking about planning a Disney trip for Oct. 29-Nov. 4 for a couple months now and are finally going to book next week. While browsing through the RunDisney site (Im doing the Princess 5k & 10k in a couple weeks!!!!), I noticed this race weekend will be starting while we are there! Now I've done a bunch of 5ks but this will be my first 10k. I'm thinking if I keep training after this race, I'll be ready to do my first ever half marathon in November! And since I'll be down there already, whats another day or two right? lol Someone give me a little encouragement that I can do this! haha Also, should I sign up within the next couple weeks? Anyone know when the half for this weekend usually sells out? Thanks for any help/encouragement in advance! haha

I mean we tend to be a bunch of enablers, oops I mean a supportive group here so go for it! Seriously though, find a good half plan to follow and you will have plenty of time to get prepared. :)

My kind of people! lol Thanks guys!

I know it might be early to thinking about this, but does anyone know what time the After Party starts the night of the 1/2 and what time you can get into Epcot? Trying to figure out how much money i will be spending over this trip. (basically all)

Don't know but just take what you think you will spend it and times by 1.7531. That's the official Disney "we take all your money" conversion.

Well im trying to think if i want/need a park ticket for that day. What is everyones thoughts on going to the park, the afternoon of the run?

I want to say the party started at 10, but we were let in at 7. And were there lines to get in. But they moved quickly enough.

I am a solid believer in the "keep moving" camp. Yes, you want to go back and get cleaned up and replenish yourself, but to confine yourself to sitting or laying around will cause you more difficulty the next day. You may not be going at full throttle or raging commando speed, but I say be active the rest of the day. Post Dopey #1, I dragged a friend to all four parks using him as my personal photographer at the park icons and other iconic photo spots. By the end of Illuminations and our "Photos Around the World" day, he could barely stumble out the car while I skipped.

Last year party was 10-1 and I have written on my schedule you could get in at 8, but sounds like they changed it to 7 based on what was posted above.

We go to the parks right after the race, walking around helps keep the muscles from stiffening up plus it's our vacation so want lots of park time. Not all rides were open at the after party, I think it was just Test Track, Soarin & Frozen, but maybe a few others I don't remember as all we did was Test Track Single rider. I will say we were exhausted by the after party so didn't stay till the end, so if you want to get the most out of the party time than a nap may be in order instead of park time.

Always hit the parks after the races. Sleep when I get home. :)

We always go to back to the parks after we get cleaned up and all that. If I took a nap I would down and out for the rest of the day, I am so not a good napper. Just keep swimming is how I approach it!

As others have said, the party started at 10, but you could officially get in starting at 8. (I entered around 6 with my AP, though, so I don't know anything about them starting to allow party people in at 7.)

For me, I need down time after a race, not more time on my feet right away. So I went back to my resort to shower, eat and take a long nap before heading to EP. You'll find what your body needs for recovery in training; lots of folks do prefer to get out and hit the parks right away, but it's not for everyone!

Ok so I figured whats the sense in waiting - Im officially signed up for the half marathon!

Yay! So glad you signed up! I did Princess 5&10K in 2015 then signed up for W&D for my first half. Of course, it ended up being a half of a half, but I felt well trained and prepared. And I went on to do all three races Princess weekend in 2016 so it all worked out and came full circle!

I'm thinking someone is going to have a pre-race party at my room before the half.

Congrats on taking the plunge! Feel free to ask any questions here - even the weird ones!

Are you buying a multi-day ticket otherwise? If so - adding days is so cheap that I would say go for it. If not, you can always hit the hot tub, disney springs, nap etc before the party!

I'm holding off to see if @mbwhitti gets selected for the NYC Marathon.

If she does, I'm out. If, by chance, she DOESN'T, I'll probably register for the half. I'm planning to be in Florida during that time anyway, so it might be a nice "reward" if I do my first 70.3 in October.

When you do your 70.3 in October is what I think you meant to write :)

After last Fall's half, I napped in the morning, then went with my family to the FW in the afternoon and returned with my wife that night for the party. According to my Fitbit, I clocked over 26 miles for the day, and it's my all time high for steps (48,000+).

My plans are final! Well I still need to request the time off work but I don't think it will be a problem. We'll be going to Universal for a few days before and then I rented points and got a studio at the Boardwalk! Going to do the 2 course challenge and then to top it off we will be going on a 4 day cruise after! I hope there are good bands performing at the Eat to the Beat concerts when we are there. I just saw who was playing at the Flower and Garden Festival and kind of got a little excited that Expose was playing (flashback to early teenage years), and I saw a lot performers that usually do play at Eat to the Beat playing so I wonder if they will do both events?
