Official Wine and Dine 2016 thread

At the end of 13 Miles - I think I could really care less who sees how I look. I know I'm not pretty at that point in the races!
It as at the end of the race you find out where you truly stand with family and friends. Your supporters are the ones who hug you in spite of the grimacing look and the sweaty body.

So the kids race medallions are so cute that I suddenly want to book another room and haul them all down with a sitter so they can do them :)

I ran a solid 11 miles yesterday and feel decently on track for November, except that around mile 8 I started having pain in one knee on the outside, especially on descents. Seems like it's probably my IT band. I will take it easy for a few days and see how it goes. My question is: what is your experience with KT tape for additional support during injuries? Do you use it for all long runs? Does KT tape truly seem to have real benefits? TIA!

I feel your pain - literally. I did a half about 4 weeks ago and had my first ever experience with IT Band pain. I think the most frustrating part is the "everyone is different" part of trying to see the light at the end of the tunnel. I've been to a Physio and it turns out mine is a result of a mix of bio-mechanics and tight muscles. I'm on a strict diet of foam rolling, daily exercises and face a future running in orthotics. Things like KT tape are not going to do much in my case (as the cause is mostly bio-mechanics) and this is why it is really important that you find out what is causing yours. I was told that I could have made it a lot worse had I not corrected my form - so it is worth getting someone to assess you.

I hope you are on the mend :)

I did 4 miles at 5k pace. Minute faster than normal for my 5k so either I was going faster or the weaving and stuff you have to deal with adds about a min.

I've never tried it before and I just wanted to get the run done before it gets hot. You know Seattle will be toasty when it's 66 at 7am.

Weaving around people, slowing down until you can get around someone, and the occasional character stop definitely add time. I wish there was a way to practice weaving while on a training run, but other than the occasional walker and lots of lizards there really isn't anything to practice with.

I wish it was 66 at 7! I was looking at my hour by hour for here in FL and it was (feels like) 75 at 7, 78 at 8, and then 90 at 9! It's absolutely nuts. I got in one long run before the heat set in, but now I'm happy to get 3-4 miles in before the heat forces me to hide! The mornings have started to get nicer though so I have hope to rebuild my long runs before November!

I know you and all the others have it bad in the south and the east. I get spoiled with the overcast days that I don't have to put sunblock on. Saturday is the only day I can sleep in a bit, no let me rephrase that, Saturday is the only day I can sleep later so I can stay up later Friday. I went to bed at mostly my normal time last time. I'll stay up later tonight but can't sleep too much or I won't sleep tomorrow night. But I also knew I finally had a Saturday I could take a nap, so I took advantage of it :)

I'm planning on it being warm and cloudless November :( And having to apply and reapply sunblock during the run. I know my face will be read from being hot when I finish but I want that to be the only red, no sunburn.

Does anybody have a child I can borrow for the Kids' Races? I NEED THAT MEDALLION!

haha, I told my daughter who is running the 10K with me, she needed to convince her best friend's little sister to run the race so she cold have the medallion, she is a chip and dale person. she may just be able to barter with her

Please, take the IT band warning seriously! I've had it twice (once on each leg), and it requires strength training to truly take care of. I recommend Jason Fitzgerald at strengthrunning.com, but there are a lot of resources out there that basically tell you the same thing. It's a stubborn injury, but comes from very specific and FIXABLE, weaknesses. Do your research and be aggressive with your rehab exercises! (Go easy on the foam roller. It CAN make it feel better, but doesn't address the issue.)

As far as KT tape goes... If you think it helps, it helps. It's not too expensive, so worth experimenting with if you want to give it a shot.

Thank you for this link. My knee has been swollen and sore and I have been icing and resting but I think I have found the root of my problems with the IT band. The exercises are very helpful and I indeed "feel the burn" as Jason describes in his video.

As far as I know they have not. The courses and event guide for the Disneyland half is up now, and that's a month before the W&D, so I'd expect them probably sometime this month.
I actually wouldn't expect them probably until early October. The Disneyland one was just posted last week about a month before race weekend. So assuming the same for Wine and Dine, and that a month out is pretty typical (that's what it was last year as well), that would put us at early October. But whenever it is, I'm anxious to see them since the 10K is new and the half course will be different.

Who's up on the construction in Animal Kingdom? I'm 100% out of the loop but am wondering if it'll affect the 5K course at all. :confused3

Good question, I hadn't thought of that. I'm not doing the 5K, but I hope it doesn't affect the course, at least not significantly. If it affects the 5K, it would also probably affect the half. But the half kind of needs to use Animal Kingdom since Hollywood Studios is not mentioned as being part of it.

This is the course map for the Jingle Jungle 5K from previous years (now called Mickey's Holiday 5K)...:scratchin

We didn't go through Camp Minnie Mickey from what I remember, so maybe this course won't change...unless there are other walled-off areas that would affect it. :confused3
