Official Wine and Dine 2016 thread

Just curious...how do you plan your days to achieve that, esp in the parks?

Thanks in advance!
I spend very little time in the parks when I'm there to race: my focus is 100% on feeling my best for the races, not on a Disney vacation. I'm semi-local to WDW, which makes that easier, I'm sure! So a typical race weekend might be: Day 1 arrive at WDW, go to the expo, get settled into hotel, dinner with friends, early to bed. Day 2: short race, rest, relax, recover at my hotel, meet friends at a park for a ride or two, dinner at 5, bed at 6. Day 3: short-ish race, rest, relax, recover at hotel, meet friends for a ride and/or lunch, back to hotel for dinner by 5, bed by 6. Day 4: long race, rest, relax, recover at my hotel, lunch at hotel, nap, park time and celebration dinner with friends.

I'm having a terrible running week. Not sure if it's the heat/humidity or related to giving blood Friday but I have had no energy this week to run. I tried Sunday but finally called it quits at only 2 miles and felt horrible. Sleeping good. Just no energy to run. :(

So I put in availability changes at work so that I could stick to the training plan and be off on Saturdays for my long runs but nope....got scheduled for a 6AM shift this coming week.

meaning that after my 7 hour work day all on my feet I'll have the pleasure of braving the FL Heat/Humidity/Afternoon Storms to do my run

As a runDisney newbie....I have a really bizarre question to ask...

Since you have to wake up so early to catch the bus in the morning (3 AMish) does anyone not go to bed the night before a race and just stay up?

I know this year the race falls on Day Light Savings Time, but the Magic Kingdom has EMH on the 5th from 10 PM - 12 AM, and I was not sure if it is worth going to the park that night and just waiting it out.

As I type this, it sounds like a terrible idea, but I wanted to see if any actually does this or not.

I aim to be in bed around 7-8 on race nights. There is no way I could stay up all night. I would be sick to my stomach! I'm sure there is some exception to the rule, but I am not one of them! I do go to the parks each day, but I'll try to take it easy and relax as much as possible until after the races are over. Normally I'll do my 3 FastPasses, but then grab a Starbucks and relax somewhere in the shade, come back to the hotel to rest, early dinner and bed.

Bummer! Can you run Sunday morning? It'll help for a little bit until the back to back start. I know I am starting a new job and have listed my availability to have Saturday and Sunday mornings off so I totally understand, but I'm thinking it will be tough as well to be on my feet for a shift after these long runs!

I also aim to be in bed by 7 on race nights. I am fitting in as much park time as possible too. There is no way I would make the trip and not do park time. I posted this a while back.

Working on my itinerary for race weekend. There are so many new things that should be open by then that were not ready in April.

Wednesday - afternoon arrival - DHS evening for SW fireworks

Thursday - Expo early for opening - I don't want to miss out on any Lumiere themed merch!
Thursday evening - AK - night safari, Nomad Lounge, and Rivers of Light

Friday morning - EP - Soarin and new Frozen ride
Friday afternoon - Disney Springs for a little shopping and dinner (not sure where yet) early to bed

Saturday morning - 10K
Saturday afternoon - MK then early to bed

Sunday morning - Half then nap
Sunday night - EP for party

Monday morning departure

I'm pretty sure that I am going to be solo for this whole weekend so although I have a lot planned I should be able to get plenty of rest too.

For us, we hit parks at opening and stay till evening but head back between 7-7:30pm (park hop usually). If I try to go to sleep early like 7pm, it won't happen (been there, tried it, and failed), so then relax at the resort/room, put on some cartoons/movies that I know will help put me to sleep, but I'm off my feet/legs. It's a vacation so we do the parks the whole time, just not as late till after the races. We stayed at Sports in Jan & we'll be there again so I know we'll be able to hear the Star Wars fireworks, so most likely wouldn't be able to sleep till those are over anyway. The adrenaline in the morning & excitement of the race helps getting up and going so early before the races too.

I could never to an all nighter, even 3-4 hours of sleep is better than none.

I am starting to come across a major travel and schedule problem, and I know if theres any information that would help... it would be from someone on here.

I am signed up for the 5k, and the challenge. I wanted to get the kids signed up for the 10k and skip the 5k, but due to rookie mistakes in getting through registration, I failed and ended up signing them up for the 5k. Now it is looking like it is a strong possibility they may not be able to make it until Friday evening (after the 5k). I read it is not possible to transfer bibs. But I think I can still edit the active account until Aug 2? Is there any way at all that I can get them switched from the 5k to the 10k? Even if that means just dumping the 5k fees? Already have a resort booked, and do not need park tickets. Any suggestions would be incredible because I am starting to freak out! If they cant make the run, can I still get their shirt and medals and make them run it like a virtual race? Really hoping there is some option here, but I am guessing I would be SOL if they cant make it until too late.

I'm sure that others will know more than I, but...

  • you can definitely pick up the bibs and shirts for them if they are minors, but NOT the medals -- they have to run to get those
  • no transfer option that I've ever heard of. There are a certain number of spots per race, so it doesn't work that way.
  • only thing I can think of is through a charity or travel agent if still available, but the latter would require room and tickets to be booked through them as well, I believe

Sorry. :(

I hope I'm wrong about some of the above and that somehting works out! :goodvibes

We finally got a hotel booked-CBR at rack rate. No military or CM discounts for any moderates left because I thought the BF was on it since he was giving his family the dates a month ago and his sister is a CM. Nope- his family booked rooms though. :confused3 I'm keeping my eye out for any openings but I'm not holding my breath.
Also got back to running! I'm soooo rusty. Been running in the gym, but I'm hoping just living in Louisiana now will help me with dealing with humidity during the races. I'm used to being used to DC winters and then going down and having to adjust to Florida weather/humidity.

Well, being able to get their bibs and shirts for them is actually helpful! I will just have to travel down alone earlier. I had read you have to check yourself in, so this information actually gives me a ray of hope! Still having difficulty but hopefully I can find a good option with this nugget. Thanks so much!

Glad that it helped some! :)

Just to double check: your kids are minors, right? NO PROBLEM picking up for them if they are. Adults need to pick up their own, I believe.

Is everyone here just doing the wine and dine half or anyone signed up for the Lumiere's challenge? I didnt see a thread for it.

There are a lot of people doing the challenge. I'm only doing the half.

This thread is for all the wine & dine rd events.

Challenge for me too. This thread is sort of a catch all for all races this weekend. Mickey's Holiday 5k too.
