Official Wine and Dine 2016 thread

Yeah, I personally think each of the events/races do not need their own threads. Sort of clutters up the board.

And a lot of the questions and topics are the same. It would be hard to keep up if you were only doing one race but wanted to keep up with any expo, food, party etc stuff.

Doing the challange here also. Havent done any kind of running or walking this week. Super sick with a stupid bug going around. Monday is a new wk though. Hoping to get back at it.

Doing the Challenge!!! First Disney race for me too! Long time runner and Disney fan, so I can't believe it's taken me until now to even know these existed.

Is everyone here just doing the wine and dine half or anyone signed up for the Lumiere's challenge? I didnt see a thread for it.
Doing the challenge with my sister, DS11 joins us for the 10K, and the whole family is doing the 5K together! :)

I just got back from 5 days at WDW (AKL) followed by the 4-day cruise on the Disney Dream. WDW has disappointingly few options for distance training (and it was 98 degrees), so I kept to the treadmill. I got to do the Castaway Cay 5K on the cruise. About 150 people did it, so it was a fun run. I've been training 5-7 miles, so the 5k distance was easy and the temperature was fine in the high 70s, but it was very humid. I was drenched by the end of the run.

I'm doing the challenge as well. I'm currently training for a half marathon in mid-September and then will adjust my training for challenge prep.

10k race report:
Well, that was HOT! 83 temp with 88 heat index at race start on Saturday. I decided not to do a warm-up run. By race finish, it was over 85, with a heat index 90+ (per NOAA). I had been pacing with a woman for the first 1.5 miles, until she pulled ahead by about 20 seconds. Then she grabbed her left hip, and pulled over. As I caught up, she was trying to keep going and stretching. I asked if she was ok, and she said yes. I ran into her on the inbound leg of the out-and-back course, and she was walking back to the start. With my Garmin measuring way long (user error), and the excessive heat, I slowed to a walk and we walked together for about 10 minutes. I enjoyed talking with her, and she said it helped take her mind off things. I never got her name, but she's training for a 1/2 in Central Pennsylvania in September, and I wish her a speedy recovery, and all the best.

DW forgot to stop her Garmin at the finish (results not yet posted), but we think she was <2 minutes off her PR for a 10k. I think it is proof that the run/walk method she has chosen is an excellent plan for her. Even when conditions are FAR from ideal, she is able to post times that are not far off from her usual times.

This was our goal 10k, to get the best POT we could, but we knew on Friday that the conditions were not ideal for that attempt, and that we could do more harm than good. I was happy to maintain a 9:10/mile pace for the first 4 miles.

With the writing on the wall last Friday morning regarding the weather, we logged our POT with runDisney that evening. I would like to share our "lessons learned":
Compared to last year, I thought that the POT process was improved, despite some hiccups I'll point out below. You have to log in to Active.com, which I don't recall being the case in 2015. While we had no issues last year, but the process seemed more "secure" this year. There are 2 choices: view registration and edit reservation. Use edit reservation to post POT
I gathered all the information prior to logging in. It was easy to complete that section, except:
attempt #1, me: I failed to place the URL of the race results into the correct field. Result- no information was saved (date, distance, time, race name)
attempt #2, me: Put the URL in, but then hit TAB to exit the field. Result- failure again.
attempt #3, me: Put URL in, and then hit enter. Result- success.

Learning from all this, I was able to do DW in fewer attempts.

Biggest tip- after you "think" you've done it right, go back in and view registration. That's how I found out I had failed to complete the form correctly. Then screen shot it, just to be safe.

Same here: Harrisburg 1/2 on 9/11, then challenge time.

My husband and I are also running the Harrisburg Half! I really hope the weather cools off a little bit by then! We just moved up here from Florida, but I'm melting! LOL! (It may be our lack of air conditioning....)

I ran 8 miles yesterday since I have the two September Half Marathons (Harrisburg 1/2 & Diva DC) and just adjusted the Challenge training schedule to incorporate the miles for them and then start up with the back to back runs and back to training as usual after Diva.

Great tips - ESPECIALLY to screen-shot the entry. I think what you're saying about "the process seemed more 'secure' this year" is exactly why they do it this way now. I read reports of people getting "sabotaged" by others who who log in and change their PoTs, and then they'd end up in the last corral when they should have been up front (why someone would take the time to do that, I have no idea). :confused3

I agree too on getting a screenshot or printout of your proof of time just to be safe! We just double checked ours & I reminded my older brother on his & of course he hadn't submitted it yet, doh!

and we're at 100 DAYS...Nice round number, thanks RunDisney for the countdown clock! (I didn't realize this though till I saw it on facebook)

Just noticed the Lumiere challenge is again available on the Active website. Is this a new change or had I just missed it?

So bizarre! It is most definitely there and I was able to click through a bit of the registration process. Still says sold out on the rD website though.
