Official Wine and Dine 2016 thread

I am running the 5k - my first Disney race - with my fiancé and so excited! I'm considering buying the green "I'm training for" drywick shirt for us both. Has anyone bought these in the past? How is the quality and size? Do they run true to size or large? Are the shirts you get with registration just regular t shirts? I want to make sure we are fully outfitted :) Thanks!
i purchase the dopey one ... was not too happy with the quality for running , it was a bit thick and not that comfortable , the one i have , the seams seem a bit too rough and did cause some shafing around the arms ..

Nikki, your responses are always so informative and also so fun to read. Thanks for that! Are the Disney shirt fits pretty consistent? Meaning they ALL run tight or large? Or are they different from event to event?

I notice that's I'm 90% a men's medium for almost all my outside disney runs. But most of those shirts I don't care about. The Disney ones, I definitely want to fit.

all the same - for each race weekend they just do a new color/design but the same base shirt. It just depends on race if it is long sleeve or short

Hi everyone!!

I am from NY. This time will be my second time with runDisney, I did the Princess 5K in February and I enjoyed so much. This time, I registered for the Lumiere's Two Course and I can't wait!!!

I want to ask if anyone who know where to stay is best for a solo runner?

Any tips will be appreciate!

Thank you in advance!
I find any of the all stars are pretty good for solo runners , My wife and I have stayed there for two other run weekends and find it no problem with the room size and the transportation. the rooms are big enough and the second bed makes it easy to lay down all your running things for the next day , also the price is the cheapest so you save some money as well. All star sports is our favorite after staying in all of them

I have frequently made long sleeve shirts into short sleeves without any sewing. You can just buy iron on fusing from a craft store ( Hobby Lobby). It comes in strips. Cut the sleeves the length you want them plus about 1 inch. Fold the inch under, put the fusing in between and iron it. Works great.

I iron creases into things as I'm ironing the wrinkles out giving myself more work I agree that stuff works great but the frustration it would cause me is worth the 15 bucks it will probably cost me for alterations.

While on the topic of shirts, does anyone else wish the participant t-shirts were short-sleeved instead of long? I'll love them either way (I love my shirt from last year, even though it's a bit difficult to wear with the course shortening), but I think I'd get more use out of short-sleeved. I guess I'm a little unsure of why the Princess shirts in February are short sleeved, while Wine and Dine in November is long. Seems like the weather for the two times of year are about the same (if not warmer on average in November). Not a big deal, but just a personal preference.

And on another note, I know it will be a while, but I am super excited to see what the medals will look like this year, especially for the 10K and Challenge (I'm thinking the half will be similar to last year's). Perhaps we'll get some kind of idea when the training plans are posted.

It would be great if they could offer a choice (or free short sleeve, extra $5 or something if you want long sleeve). I personally like the long sleeve because after W&D I'm looking at months of cold weather, and I like to wear the shirts around the house or to work on casual day. I also don't have many long sleeve tech shirts, so on the occasions where I run outside in the cold it's nice to have. But I can totally see preferring short sleeve if you want to actually work out in it. Last year I purchased one of the short sleeve shirts they had for sale at the expo so that I would have both.

Pop, Art of Animation and any of the All-Stars look to be the closest. Not sure what the bus sharing situation is at the All-Stars but my BFFs stayed at AoA and said it was fine.

That's interesting...the races are marked as sold out on runDisney.com...did you get an Active.com confirmation? Congrats!!

Yes right away. It was flashing on hold so I watched it and babes as soon as it showed available. Went back to sold out after I submitted

I think those are both convenient. I've done POP (which is basically just like AOA) and it was great for bus service to ESPN & EPCOT, I don't think we shared with AOA at all, but can't remember for sure. I mean it's just right down the road from ESPN so besides traffic backups it doesn't take long to get there. I have stayed at AOA on a non-race trip and I liked it a lot too, The lake is fun to run or walk around if you are staying at AOA or POP.

This past January we did All-Star Sports and it seemed like in no time we were at EPCOT or ESPN really! At All-Stars we didn't stop at any other All-Stars in the morning of the races but we did share coming back from the races with all the All-Stars. It was great though.

Which race?

Half!

Do the men's run about average / tight / loose?

Sorry - no idea of the mens fit. All I know is they use the same type of shirts every race, just like the pre-order jackets. All the same, large order screenprinting from champion basically.

You can usually exchange shirts for a different size though at the expo. So I wouldn't worry too much about it.

Hey everyone! I have a question about how they determine what corral you will be in. I am running the 10K, but it will be my first 10K.
the active registration asked what speed I plan to run per mile..
is that what they use to determine corral? or because it is my first 10K do they automatically put me in the last corral?
If they do, I am wondering if I can run a local 10Kbefore November and add it to my active registration. does anyone know the cut off on when I can add my time?
thanks!!

Just booked Boardwalk Nov 2-7. We wanted Yacht/Beach, but everything except club level seems to be sold out. :( Oh well. Glad I checked today or we might have been out of luck for Boardwalk too.

Seems they take your estimated mile time to corral place you for the most part, but I also think sometimes there's other factors too for 5k & 10k corral placement, not really sure as sometimes it's pretty random where people get put.

And, no you won't be in the last just because it's your first RUnDisney race.

It won't help to run a 10k before for getting a corral placement because there isn't anywhere to submit that as a proof of time in the 10k. If you are running the challenge or half you can submit a 10k for corral placement.

LOL, well, thank you! I do try to be as equally informative as I am witty!

For men, I'd say you may have a bit of a similar fit issue if you have a substantial upper body with broad shoulders. Otherwise, you might be ok with your regular size. I do not have an "elite runner" bod, more on the curvy side, lol, so I personally didn't feel comfortable in the women's medium. I would say a good majority of women I met at the expo ALL went up a size in the Champion dry vick tees you get with registration. There were quite a few men as well exchanging them for bigger sizes, but as for how their shirts fit I'm afraid I'm not so sure on that. I didn't have a man with me who ran the race who received the t shirt.

Yes, they are consistent (for now unless it changes) as Run Disney uses Champion for their registration running t shirts, the training t shirts, and most of their Run Disney insignia gear. I purchased a large in every Champion item I bought the weekend of the Princess Half.

I'm having issues deciding where to stay for this race. We don't want to stay at Carribbean Beach, we did that for WDW Marathon Weekend. I went solo for Princess and stayed at Coronado Springs and oh my....I have never experienced a convention there and that was something else. There were always people EVERYWHERE, like worse than normal. All the bagels were always gone  I felt weird walking around the resort by myself because there were so many convention people there. This time I wanted PO Riverside but all the military rooms are out already. I went ahead and booked Coronado and then found out there's a PA Board convention that weekend :sad2: I am regretting my choice for the Coronado for the race even though we love that resort. If we're not there for a race it's great. So, yeah, need some help on this one. I thought about AKL but I heard there were transportation issues over Princess weekend with drivers getting lost. I wasn't sure about POP either because even though I've heard transportation is great but one of my things before I leave for a race is to have a cup of coffee, like an hour and I have before I leave.

Any advice would help. We are not new to WDW but I'm just confused.

I live in FL, but was pleased with the long sleeve shirt for my training after the race. For the race weekend I just laughed about it since it was so gosh darn hot! But I will look forward to making good use of them since we are moving to PA this summer so I'm sure my born and raised in SoCal self will need the long sleeves. I'm a weather wimp!

I'm a DVC member, and the selection of rooms for that weekend is very limited. We've gone to Food & Wine past years over Columbus Day weekend, but it's been crowded and too hot. We were hoping for a slower weekend in November. Do the racing crowds translate into crowds at the parks, particularly Epcot? I'm running, so no complaints. Just wondering about the crowds.

It was pretty crowded last year. I think the combination of the race weekend, Food & Wine, Jersey Week and Coloumbus Day really added to the crowds. Princess was worse those to be honest.

My husband normally wears a large shirt and he ordered a large in the Disney shrits and it fit. (he has a long torso and has big shoulders/chest, but not heavy.) It fit him perfectly. I ordered larges each year and they've always fit fine in the women's cut.

This time I wanted PO Riverside but all the military rooms are out already.

Wow, both French Quarter AND Riverside are sold out. We booked the military discount at Riverside a few weeks before registration. Guess I'm glad we did! But I had similar probems last year where it was almost impossible to get a room wtih the discount. I'm not a fan of the values personally so I'd stick with Coronado or jump up to AKL or WL.

I love staying at the MK area resorts (and did for last years Wine & Dine) - but it made me realise how much I have loved being at Epcot resorts for previous W&D weekends (The easy access to the food festival in the evenings was super handy).

Having stayed at both BC and YC before I wanted to try something different - so will be at Boardwalk this time around (bonus being it was cheaper than the other two when I booked as well).

I like getting the long sleeves as well as the short depending on the race, but live in Nebraska so both are nice to have as we get all weather. I get medium and they fit fine for me, I usually get mediums in most tops, sometimes large, I'm just thrilled they have women's cut! My older brother exchanged his marathon shirt at the expo from large to medium and it was easy as long as they have your size, took him like 2 seconds to do. We always try on our shirts just to double check right after getting them.

I wasn't sure about POP either because even though I've heard transportation is great but one of my things before I leave for a race is to have a cup of coffee, like an hour and I have before I leave.

At marathon weekend in Jan POP (and All-Stars) opened like at 3:00 the food courts so you could get coffee or refill your mug with coffee.

This is my first rD event and my mom is going with me. I'm only doing the 10k. Will there be somewhere she can go to watch the race and if so will they have buses for spectators that run a little later than runners. Any suggestions or tips greatly appreciated!
