Official Wine and Dine 2016 thread

This was always the rD race that I wanted to do but that never quite fit into my schedule. Now that they've switched it to virtually mirror all of their other race weekends I am a little disappointed that I never got to experience it. It will be interesting to see how their feedback goes (seems overwhelmingly disappointed right now) and whether that feedback will be given any consideration (probably not).

The demand for these races is just huge. As I said way back on page ??, I expected a 10K to be added and all resorts to have transportation provided. They have races selling out in minutes sometimes. It just makes sense.

I wish they had managed to keep it a night race, though. The only night one I did at Disney was the ToT in 2013. I ran the 5K in the morning and half that night -- loved it.

Yeah, I'm reading the responses on their Facebook post and it's not good so far.

I'm guessing it'll stay this way though...from what I have heard, they (runDisney) do what the Theme Parks division tells them to do. :confused3

If this becoming a morning race is the end of the world for you, you've got a much bigger problem than the time/date of the race changing.

To be fair, I think there is a place for those who are upset over it being changed (really exceptionally last minute guys, thanks RD), that is not quite at this level. I am super disappointed and considering passing on it now. It is nowhere near the worst problem I have today, but I think its fair to let some people vent here about how it is upsetting to them.

...because now this weekend is just like all other rD race weekends.

This is pretty much my issue. This is lets say, 70% of it. The ability to run at night and not wake up at the crack of dawn covers the other 30%.

Had RD told us this a couple of months ago, or really anytime near when they released their race calendar for our "planning purposes" it would have been easier to swallow. Now people have put their eggs in this basket. Especially with this being the only Fall based race. It kind of feels like I am stuck with this race a little now. Cali is a much more expensive trip for me, and I passed on PHM earlier this year so I could afford to do this one later on. I really adore Disney, and what RD does, but geez o man am I getting tired of the attitude of take what we give you at the last minute and make it work. I mean they actually changed the dates of the main draw race that they had released so long in advance. Just...at least make your changes with enough time for us to re-plan ours. So often they seem to throw stuff together last minute.

Or just you know, bring back TOT! :)

Wow! Well first off I'm glad I got to run W&D (first half in 2013) at night, but for me what made it so special was the Osborne Lights. And since they're now gone, I was curious how rD would change the race. But I'm also a person who's in bed by 10, so this and TOT were rough on this old gal! :)

Now I'm reconsidering W&D and DH is going to kill me!

Try a visor? I like them better than hats.

I think 11/6 is the last MNSSHP, not the first MVMCP this year. Sort of weird, normally MK is done up for Christmas during Wine & Dine, but this year it'll be Halloween.

Are those dates confirmed? I'll be less interested in this race weekend if it's not going to be Christmassy. :santa:

I totally agree with this. Every other race is a morning race - this was the only night one, and runDisney had the date and time posted for months now. People (myself included) had already made travel arragements - I feel especially bad for those who booked flights on say, Sunday afternoon assuming it would be a Saturday night race (because, again - Disney had that date and time posted for months) - that really screws things up.

Also, no more weekend 5K races with this - read a post from a lady that was planning on doing the 5K with her son, but doesn't want to pull him out of school to do it Friday. And my husband was planning on the 5K...doesn't work with his work schedule (he's thinking about the 10K now, but still).

I think it's incredibly unfair to say that people shouldn't be upset about this, or that they shouldn't be allowed to express their frustrations.

Ok, now that the party is separate from the half my husband has done a 180 and wants to do the full challenge--his reasoning is that we would be exhausted coming right out of a half (which we have never done before). I will have the Dark Side Challenge under my belt so that's something, but this half stuff is scary. So now he is down for doing both. Which I suppose is good, because the price of that party separately is crazy on top of the 10k.

I really do hope they find a way to limit the tickets for the party. I still get SO mad that I couldn't get a pre-sale Star Wars Tech Jacket despite doing the challenge and you KNOW there will be some on ebay.

Hmm...I can't find a listing of the dates (someone told them to me and I can't find where they are to confirm), so I may need to eat my words on that one. :upsidedow Last year the last MNSSHP was November 1 (first Sunday in November) - this year the first Sunday in November is the 6th - i.e. Wine & Dine day, so it's possible it'll still be Halloween stuff. :confused3

EDIT: See post below, found the dates

I think people buying up the merch for resale is totally different from people buying the tickets for the after-party. If anything, I think the party will be a lot less attractive to people since it's not right after the race, so you may be able to get one pretty easily (I got one for my husband in 2013 and it was fine). :)

I'm guessing that the FB posts so far are mostly past W&Ders disappointed that it's changing. And people who are unhappy about ANY change are always much more vocal than people happy about it.

I'd bet this sucker still sells out. They might get people who didn't want a night race. Or people like us who really wanted a 10K added. As always, Disney will do just fine.

I personally would have enjoyed a night race like ToT was. :( But we will most definitely do this wknd. Our group: 5 5Ks, 1 10K, and 2 challenges. Take my money, Disney. :)

They mentioned Rivers of light in the description so maybe they have the music or some of the fountains from that going during the race?
That would be pretty cool! I was hoping they'd do that when I still thought it was a night race, but either way...

I agree. I understand all of the changes they've made to the weekend, why it makes sense from their perspective, and why it probably won't change back for the foreseeable future.

Its odd that with all the changes they made for this race weekend, that they didn't change the 5k from christmas themed to halloween themed if they will still be doing the halloween party. I hope that the Christmas party will start on the 7th or the 8th!
Welcome to the DIS!!

Ha! That's a great point. The 5K definitely sticks out from the other two races. :confused3

And it's no longer "Jingle Jungle"...which I guess makes sense since that parade has been gone for awhile now.

Thanks :) I have been stalking this thread for awhile now because this race weekend was giving me anxiety and I finally had to join in! haha

Found the dates. https://disneyworld.disney.go.com/events-tours/magic-kingdom/mickeys-not-so-scary-halloween-party/

Click "show more" under Mickey's Spooktacular Celebration

That doesn't necessary correlate with the dates of the party, that's for an in room celebration. The same type of thing is offered for MVMCP and has the following -
This extra-special surprise is only available from October 28, 2016 to January 9, 2017. Plus, consider adding even more cheer to your room with the separate purchase of a beautifully designed Christmas tree or personalized stockings.

So it starts before Halloween. The dates for the parties haven't been announced.
