Official Wine and Dine 2016 thread

And in any case, for Dark Side we ended up using a travel agent rather than go through the insanity -- may well do that this time!! Just want to know what all our options are. :)
Just as an FYI, if you plan to do that, try to secure a bib before general registration opens if the travel agents have them available (which they typically do, but who knows what will happen with the craziness of this event so far this year). Last year, the races sold out so quickly through regular registration that people immediately went to travel agents and charities and even they were sold out within the day.

Very good point!! Thanks!! :)

There is a blog post about this where it tracked how quickly a few races registered... I won't post that link per DIS rules but I will excerpt as I researched the times for sellouts last year:

"The Wine & Dine 2015 Half Marathon’s early registration was sold out in about 15 minutes. Full registration? By 12:01 the site had crashed, but quickly bounced back up. At 12:08 some people found themselves in a queue for signups. By 12:25pm both the 5k and the Half were 75% full. The 5k was sold out in 30 minutes. The half marathon sold out in 35 minutes. IT WAS MADNESS."

Sounds about right! :)

Honestly, I can say from personal experience that the early registration has always been nuts, from my first race -- ToT in 2013. 10-15min seems about right.

And I've hit some kind of snag -- major or minor -- every time. Issues with active accounts, them changing rules about adults needing their own active accounts, DVC or AP links not working. A hot mess, most of the time. I just wonder what it'll be next time.

Indeed it was. But, at least that race has been consistent with everything...

Question: if one does the 5k, they can still pay separately to go to the finisher party that night, correct? Or does someone doing the half have to sign you up?

Assuming they still have the Finish Line Party, yes! You can purchase a separate ticket...for half marathon participants, the ticket is included with their race registration. :)

I'm actually tempted to do the Two Course Challenge now with it being a morning race. My main thing against the race was running past my bedtime!

I absolutely hate the changes. They have taken away both nighttime races now. And now the party feels less like a we just finished hooray! And more like every other special ticketed event. Why couldn't just one race be different? Not to mention how much I do not want to be up until 1am when I was UP at 2am to get to the race start.

I understand some people are morning runners. But there are plenty of morning race options at Disney. Did we really need to take away the night runners only option?

Actually, I take that back about the course:

  • 13.1-mile course through ESPN Wide World of Sports Complex, Disney's Animal Kingdom® Theme Park & Epcot®

Well, I'm a little bummed it's not a night race anymore. Not surprised though.

I'll be curious to see what they do with the course. Description is super vague right now.
Based on the course description, this is roughly my guess. It's not the full 13.1 because there are in park twists and turns that google maps won't let me mess with. image.jpegI'm sure the 10k will be the 10k they use for everything. Interesting the Dark Side is now the only three park half ...

It must've been way too difficult/costly for them to put on these night races. I'm glad I got to do a nighttime version (well, twice...but 2014 was way different). The atmosphere was just so awesome when I did it in 2013, so I'll miss that.

At least they didn't make the course the same as the WDW/Princess one. I was sort of afraid they'd do that!

Yeah, that for sure knocks Wine & Dine down a notch in my book. I'm guessing the course will be the same as what it has been, but they have a lot of twists and turns that were in DHS that they'll need to make up now. :confused3

I definitely wish the half was still at night, that was the major draw for my husband wanting to do to. But I guess he and I will have to have a little discussion tonight and see what we are going to do! I LOVE the challenge and the 10k theme!

Yeah, I will say - I LOVE the themes they picked, for sure.
