Official Wine and Dine 2016 thread

He told me that on Friday and Saturday I should plan to have a late breakfast, followed by lunch at about 2-3pm. Lunch should be the biggest meal of the day on both Friday and Saturday according to him. Dinner would then be about 7, but should be really light (he suggested snack sized). On both Saturday and Sunday also have a pre-race snack. Off your feet from about 5 or 6pm, and in bed around 9pm. Worked a treat for me.

Hmmmm...interesting. We are normally in bed around 8, but do have a normal dinner around 5. I'll have to think on that one and our plans. But I think I would be starving during the half if I only ate a snack sized meal the night before.

I know I would be starving. I try to eat a good size dinner and have a snack before bed when I'm doing my long runs so I don't wake up hungry, which is never good. I would rather fuel during a run to keep going than need to do it because I'm getting hungry.

I think its all about finding what works for you.

For us, that means dinner around 5/5:30 - bed by 8PM

I did breakfast before Princess but not Star Wars - Light Side - I think breakfast is more important for me for Princess as I'm waking up about an hour or hour & a half earlier than I do at Disneyland. Breakfast was just two pieces of toast with butter & jelly though.

So true! We have a similar routine to you. We did breakfast before Princess. We bought the runner breakfast packages the night before. I ate half a bagel with peanut butter.

@lovingeire what are "runner breakfast packages"?

They were brown paper lunch bags that had a bottle of water, a bagel, peanut butter, a granola bar and a banana in it. (I think that was everything in it, but I can't 100% recall. I should have taken a picture!) You could purchase them the night before at the food court. Now that I think about it I ate the banana and the half a bagel on the bus to the race.

New newbie question.... So if the 5k Holiday is Friday the 4th, when should we arrive in Disney in order to pick up registration materials/? Should we arrive on Wednesday or on Thursdat early?

You should pick up your registration materials on Thursday

This will be my first Run Disney race and we are booked for Boardwalk. So excited! What makes you think we will have to deal with buses after the race? Is it just the fact the park might not be open by the time you finish? I'm slow so I don't think I'll have that problem. :)

I'm slow too, so most likely if the park opens at 9, I would be just in time. I'm just not sure we're going to end up using a park ticket that day, since we will have the party in the evening. I'm thinking by the time we finish, get cleaned up, and get a nice brunch somewhere, we will just want to relax at the resort or maybe wander around Disney Springs for a few hours instead of going to a park.

I agree, I'd probably be hungry for the race if I didn't eat a decent sized dinner. I will probably treat these the same as any other morning race. Normal-sized dinner around 5-6, then back to the hotel to relax and in bed early. If I get my bagel, peanut butter, banana and coffee for breakfast these shouldn't be much different than other morning races I've run.

Totally agree. I was just lucky that this worked for me. I am however one of those people for whom running with food sitting in your tummy causes issues. Some people need something heave pre-race, others (like me) can only handle a Cliff bar. You just have to listen to your own body.

This is great to know so I won't have to worry about getting a bagel or peanut butter at target. Not really what I want to eat, but I know my cheerios won't last so I want to be able to eat part of the bagel with peanut butter closer to the start or instead of the cheerios.

Newbie question what time do the buses leave in the morning?

Also do they stop at the Dolphin and Swan or will I need to trek over to the yacht or Boardwalk hotels to get there :confused3

Yes, busses stop at the Swan and Dolphin. Usually you'll be stop #1.

Buses run from 3-4AM usually, or something like that. It'll say in the Event Guide.

Thanks @bcarey2k and @Ariel484 wow 3-4am - Think I'll just stay Jet lagged as if I stay on UK time (5 hours ahead) it will seem a lot more civilized if I'm thinking it's 8am lol :thumbsup2

Yeah, it's crazy early. With so many people to move, road closures, etc. I guess they just want everyone there really early. And the bus drivers are oftentimes contracted out from Mears (an outside company), so they don't always know their way around property super well...it's safer to just get on an early-ish bus!

Has the running courses been announced yet? My DW is running all 3 races, 5k with youngest DS and the challenge (10k & half) with oldest DS.
Thanks
