Official Wine and Dine 2016 thread

Usually it's pretty nice in Florida in November and December, but last year it stayed in the 80s until January. The humidity wasn't as bad and it wasn't the heat we usually have in August, but it was still hot. What will it be this year? Who knows... I will bet that it will be nicer than August and September but probably still on the warm side

78 degrees is the highs 59 degrees is the lows usually for Orlando. Those are the averages from most weather sites. Our defined "rainy season" is from May through October. So, it truly is a fluke that the last few Wine & Dine Halfs have seen SO much terrible weather! I'm sincerely hoping this year the weather will be excellent!

I feel like there's no way there could be bad weather for this race 3 years in a row... right??

I posted your link after seeing it on FB, I found it all interesting on the speculating and thought it would be fun to share on here as normally it's a positive place, sorry it caused an issue.

I for one and glad you posted the link because I would not have seen longhorns blog otherwise. Thank you to you both. That was the first somewhat solid hint that something may be in the works, that I have seen besides all of us just guessing and hoping. While still nothing official this makes it seem more possible and its nice to share that excitement with everyone here.

I've been keeping up with the thread and went back and looked and can't find the link. I would like to read the blog and I think if there had been a link from the start it would have been better. With message boards, we don't know anyone other than what they type, sure I recognize some names in threads that I frequent and have kind of figured out whether what they post is helpful etc, but for the most part I take rumors as just that unless there's something to back it up. Not saying what anyone said was write or wrong, but we don't all know who people are, who writes a blog and who gets valid info.

Shoot, no one booked flights yet, right? If they're changing the dates that may mess up travel plans already in place...

It really annoys me that they wait so long to announce stuff like this.

Raises hand. But SWA pricing was not to out liking, so we actually booked to fly in a day prior to what our original plans were. It will be interesting to see if that now somehow pays off.

I copied the post below. it is posted by cavepig on page 16 of this thread. There is a link to Active's site which shows a 10K noted.

anyone else see this posted on this blog that was shared on facebook http://noguiltlife.com/something-new-for-wine-and-dine-rundisney/
10k listed on active??? I can't actually even find it on active myself...oh wait edited here it is

RunDisney seems to say 11/4 and 5, but I note that the 1/2 is the only event I believe I see with a date and time listed. The 5k, kids races, and expo all seem to lack a date and time. I'm glad I took 3/15 as a vacation day.

Hoping to join the discussion - I've never done a runDisney event. Unfortunately I didn't know about this and booked our flights last weekend :( We are arriving at 4PM on Saturday the 5th -- I'm thinking that will be too late. Looks like packet pick-up only went until 3:00 last year -- can anyone give me advice? Thank you!!

I posted the links as mentioned above just yesterday so it's only a few pages back and they are still there as Camcolt reposted too for you but here they are again with what I posted

I've read about bib pickup at the race site but have never done it. Once dates and times get released for it you could always call RunDisney and see about bib pickup on site at the race.

Sorry, the first link blended in and I only saw the active one both when I originally read the post and when I was skimming back looking for it.

As @cavepig said, they do have "emergency" bib pick-up in the starting area, but they try to keep that very quiet. I've seen it for morning races, but I don't remember seeing it for Wine & Dine. That doesn't mean they don't have it, I just don't remember seeing it. :confused3 And I'm not sure what that means for the race shirt, if it gets mailed to you afterward or what.

Now...if they change the half to a morning race, the expo schedule will change. So we'll just have to see what they (hopefully) announce on Monday.

One thing I did see along the way for the full marathon in January was somewhere (I cant remember where specifically online, in the guide, whatever) it was specifically noted that bibs could not be picked up the morning of the race. I was very concerned about this as we were driving and could not leave before 2:00 on Friday. Our drive usually takes 23-24 hours and we had to be to the Expo by 4:00, so this only gave us a couple of hours leeway. We made it in plenty of time, we even got to check into our hotel first, but this was a place of concern for me so I was really paying attention to this info. Had we missed it would they have made an exception? Who knows, but I do remember seeing somewhere that it was not possible.

**Edited to add, I found it. It was in the event guide, page 16..."Packet Pick-Up will not be available on race morning.". And again this was for the full in Jan, so I can't say its the same for W&D and they might make exceptions that we don't know about, but this is what was said for Marathon weekend.

They say that on the website - I think because they want everyone at the expo to shop, and because it would be a disaster if EVERYONE picked up their bibs right before the race, but they have had it at other races (my BFF's husband got his bib the morning of the WDW Marathon).

But just because they've had it before, doesn't mean it'll always be there. And like I said, I don't remember seeing it for Wine & Dine.

Dumb question, sorry. I recognize that some rumblings are out there that the half marathon could move away from a nighttime race? Apologies if I am understanding the thrust of these rumors wrong, but isn't the half marathon explicitly noted by runDisney as going off at 10pm on Nov 5, 2016? (I get that other races 5K, etc aren't, but the start time for the Half is on the site)

It does say that on the site about the half date/time but all races are subject to change as registration hasn't opened yet ( I think there's fine print somewhere that says that). Yeah who knows if any rumors turn out to be true so it's and wait see and hope details are posted Monday for early AP/DVC registration on Tuesday.

I really hope Disney doesn't make this a morning race. It seems like it just wouldn't make sense.

Yep, gotta agree with @cavepig. I remember there was a big stink when they shuffled around dates for Wine & Dine to make room for the Tower of Terror 10-miler (or maybe it was the other way around? I can't remember). Like - people had planned out trips and booked flights expecting to be there for a half, and then it was a 10-miler instead. I think something similar happened when they moved the Tink dates from January to May, to make room for DLR's Star Wars Half Marathon weekend. :confused3

I'd be really disappointed if they changed it to a morning race, but I'd still go if they kept the course similar (I'm not 100% familiar with the construction happening in DHS and Animal Kingdom, but the course has to change, right? Especially since Streets of America is going away?).

Just wanted to chime in on some of the points and questions I saw here.

W&D sold out in 11 min last year. 11 freakin minutes. It was nuts. Big drama for those that got one person in but was sold out before they could get the other. rD had a huge blowback over it and I wonder if that finally pushed them to make changes to the weekend. Adding a challenge and a 10K might not make this entire event such a fast sell out.

Bib pick up: day of pick up is available, just never ever admitted to by rD. If you call them close to the race explaining you have a travel issue, they may confirm at that time. If you call now and ask about it? Nope. You'll get that it's not available. But they have the bibs at runners relations in the staging area; you DO need to be there earlier than normal corraling times though. I believe they close the booth down early.

Changing it to daytime might be a necessity? Just some thoughts I have on it- no proof, so I'm just joining in the what if discussion. Animal Kingdom is now open later and has night events. This could make running through there logistically hard or impossible for rD. HS is going to start SW construction soon, so again, course issues. Plus no Osborne Lights so that might also be a reason to switch to a logistically easier daytime race.

Weather: FL in the fall or spring can be unpredictable. As we saw last 2 years. ha. Maybe they are hedging their bets that morning hours are easier to get around the thunderstorms?

Based on my observations of the way runDisney does things, a big change up is not crazy to think from their point of view. And it's not alway what the runners want, but we don't know the backside of rD negotiations. I've heard they are at the mercy of WDW and DL proper and are just told what they can and can't do after the operations folks make their decisions. And that often that information is given to them "last minute"... so if things really are getting changed up tomorrow, it's not a first time it's happened.

Ps- thanks for the kind words from many of you. I appreciate it! Have courage and be kind, you know? ;)
