Official Wine and Dine 2016 thread

11 minutes? I was part of the body slam that hit at noon, but thought it was closer to a half hour to 35 minutes until it sold out. Not much difference in the grand scheme of the universe, but I hadn't seen a number nearly this low for the sell out time. Or was it 11 minutes until the DVC/AP slots were gone? I heard they went lightning fast.

I thought the same thing. :confused3

It definitely makes sense that Animal Kingdom's new operating hours would affect it being a night race...that hadn't occurred to me. :scratchin

And part of the reason it sold so fast is that W&D has fewer slots. It was the smallest half at WDW. So it went a bit faster regardless. 14,000 slots max (I think- may have even been 12K) vs a WDW & Princess half that have 25K slots!

It's so good to be understood.....

because everyone else i know would have been like @**#)! are you #(*)*(*$ crazy? Go to Vegas!
I mean, this race is the ONLY thing that shuts down the Vegas Strip. AND AT NIGHT!!

And no, I'm still like "oh but there might be a new pretty shiny" as if RNR doesn't have medals. I mean, true true, they're not Disney medals....but some are quite ingenious.

Heck, who am I kidding? I don't have to explain myself to you guys- cause y'all get it!

Avenge the Strip!!! You get a Disneyland fix and right to Vegas for RnR. The RnR Vegas medal spins and glows in the dark haha

If they make huge changes to this race I'm going to feel pretty disappointed that I'm sadly going to be missing it. I wanted that go at the full distance for this race.

So, here's a funny thing use this link with the "splash and dash" and see how it turns into wine and dine in the URL and redirecting to the active wine & dine page...

Down below it has other RD races and it has the save up to 10 if you are an active member. I'm confused from what I read earlier in this thread or the registration thread. Is it worth the 99 cent 1 month trial to see if the fees are waived? Or does anyone know for sure if they will be waived?

Also, is it easy to cancel the trial within the 30 day trial period so I don't get charged the 69.95? Only 1 of the 4 local races I've done has used active, so it's not worth it for me to keep it, especially since there's only one other potential race I'll sign up for before W&D in Nov and I don't think it uses active either.

Thanks!

Yes, you can sign up with you .99 cent trial and get your discount. Then cancel it before 30 days. I did this for WDW SW 5K (I think that's the race I used it on!) and received a discount.

rD races used to be exempt from the discount, but sometime in the past couple of registrations it started to be available.

For whatever reason, all of the speculation around this weekend isn't as fun for me this time. :guilty:

I think it's because I'm a planner (so I don't love not knowing what's going on so close to registration - plus it would be nice to know the cost a bit ahead of time since it - the registration(s) and the trip as a whole- won't be cheap) and if the possible changes happen, I won't be thrilled - I like the night race, and if they bump the 5K to Thursday or whatever, that means no more weekend 5Ks (my husband is a teacher and I'm not sure he wants to go beyond the 5K distance, so this 5K really worked best for his schedule).

Having said that...I'm not annoyed enough to NOT sign up, soooo...I'm not sure what my point was, it's just a little frustrating. :upsidedow

I can relate. This is my first W&D and first half, fingers crossed we get registered. I already have my flights and can't/won't change them. I get in from a redeye Friday morning, so as long as it's still on Saturday or for some reason Sunday, I will be fine.

I don't see how they would keep the finish line party if it wasn't a night race though. Of course that can always change too.

I have heard that they make a TON of money from the party - enough that it makes me think they'll figure out a way to keep that part of the weekend going in some capacity. :confused3

I don't think that AK being open later would affect the race. HS and Epcot are open late. And the race doesn't start until 10:00.

AK is the earliest park in the race, so I thought maybe that was way (less time to clear people out and get it race ready).

Crap. Spinning. Glowing. Pretty. Shiny.
You know all the words to go straight to my heart, don't you?

LMAO

It's the medal buzzwords! Hahaha. Though as stated I'm pretty upset about missing W&D this year even if it's for another Disney race and Vegas.

Re: Animal Kingdom's later hours affecting the possibility of a night race, I don't think that's a good reason. Couldn't they close a little early for one night because of the race? They do that at other parks sometimes for special events. I know Hollywood Studios closes early every once in a while for private parties.

I personally think it's really poor marketing and advertising on Disney's part if they change this to a morning race, especially so close to registration. All this time the date and time of the 5K have been missing on the website, but the half time has stayed the same, and so has the description of the race as being a nighttime event through 3 theme parks. I know everything's subject to change, but considering they left off details about the 5K makes me think the half details are more solid. Those could have been left off too if they were undetermined.

Why it'll still sell out within 20-30 min.. With it being the only wdw fall race they could change the theme to 'playhouse disney' or something equally blah and it'd still sell out crazy quick...

Honestly if the ran the race in the morning and had the 'after party' at Epcot that night I'd be all for it as a slower runner it'd give me much more value as I'd get to experience all of the party vs the hour-ish I would post race, plus I'd be showered n recovered enough to enjoy it..

I just think the race got cursed since moving it from start of f&w to the end..

I swore off the race after the 5th anniv downpour but if it does move to am I'd give it a shot :)

Not saying that it's definitely happening, but again, it wouldn't be the first time. Right under the Wine & Dine information they have this message: Dates, times and prices subject to change. So they're covered, so to speak.

*DisneyDreamer I agree that it's poor marketing and advertising...I just don't think they care. :confused3

I really hope we get an actual announcement tomorrow. All the speculating is fun but I am certainly ready to really be able to plan. I think they will add the challenge but I hope the half remains a night race....I love that aspect of this race.

I just wish I had a better idea on how much I'm spending on Tuesday as I also need to book my hotel through RunDisney (since I want Beach Club and I know all those DVC rooms are gone)

I was involved in both AP registration and regular and you are correct. I was early AP (after major issues leading to RD issuing me a special code to register, for those of you on last years thread you may remember my panic attack!) and later we got someone in just before regular closed. Pure luck. But, that was the old system. The new registration system seems to handle it better, so fingers crossed. If they ditch the after party I am over this race. That and the night race is what makes it unique! And with all of the weather issues and craziness last year...it might be cursed!
