Official Wii/DS Q/A thread. FAQ in first post! Game reviews in second post!

Anyone try the new weight loss ones? I saw there were at least 2 out there - I know Jillian's & some other one I saw (can't remember - it had ya running on logs) how are they? DO they keep your attention?

I REALLY need to use something to lose weight - my instructor last semester said he lost 16 pounds using the FIT in a couple of months of using it daily.
The Jillian one gets horrible reviews! Apparently it's really kinda buggy and there's a delay between your movements and what it registers. I looked on Amazon and there's over 100 bad (1 star or less) reviews and only like 3 or 4 good reviews. I'm personally going to stay far, far away from that one.

The other one is "my fitness coach" and it gets pretty good reviews. Apparently you can tell it what exercise equipment you own(weights, balls, etc) and it will work them into routines for you. It does not use the balance board though so I can't imagine it gives you much feedback on whether you're doing it correctly but the Amazon reviews are really good.

We just got Wii Fit and love, love love it! It technically belongs to DD16 but me, DH and DS13 are having a great time with it too!

Okay, my daughter wanted a 360 for Christmas so no wii here yet, but I played one the other day and I am wanting one now. My birthday is in Feb. so I think I may buy myself one and the wii fit.

Hi,

Santa brought us Rock Band 2 for PlayStation 3 and it's not working :-(.

When we first turned it on it had a mind of its own... Really, it was choosing things and playing all on its own! We finally figured out that the drums are busted and they are selecting things on their own... Santa bought it at Amazon, so how do we remedy this? I thought I read somewhere that some of the drum kits were defective, but I can't remember if it was here. Has anyone else experienced this? Any advice would be appreciated.

TIA!

Rock Band 2 - We got this set up and the bass pedal on the drums does not work. This was very disappointing, since we ordered from Amazon and may have to send whole thing back to them (40lbs worth). We are waiting now to see if the manufacturer gets a replacement part in. The vocals on this game are good, except I have a hard time reading them (they are very small). Guitar is tough to do, maybe its just us, but DD10 and I kept failing even on easy setting, so changed it so we would not fail. So far I'm not really very happy with it, but maybe that will change if everything is working and we get used to it.

We got lots of other games but so far kids have mostly played Wii Sports.

Sounds like you may need to synch the guitar timing with your type of tv..it's in the options menu of the game.

Also if you are havign a hard time with singing switch they word style to static.the words seem to be slightly bigger it may help.

It takes A while for most people to getthe hang of how to actually play...my suggestion is HOLD down the propper colored button don't try to press it as you strum. it should be down before you strum and up after your finished.

Yes the drums on both rockband and Guitar Hero seem to be broken quite often. Contact Ea/Harmonix(makers of rockband)(1-800 number in the game box) for more information on what to do.

For furure warning to all...DO NOT buy games with perifrials like RB or GH on amazon returning is a nightmare and to many things can and usually do go wrong...buy these types of games in the store. ONLY buy regular games form amazon, ect. online. Just my opinion but it will save you some headaches.

I have a silly RockBand 2 question...

Are you supposed to be able to hear yourself singing with the microphone? :confused3 Other than that it works good - I mean it picks up when we're singing & not singing.

We got our Wii for Christmas as well. Mostly playing Wii Sports. Is there any way to stop the instructions from playing every single time we start an event? Especially with the boxing, it is pretty frustrating.

Thanks!

Hello!!! I have a question for the owners of "The Price is Right".

In multiplayer mode it appears that you use only 1 controller?

Is there a feature to change that? I have looked and don't see it, but I have to ask. 4 people using the same controller is really dumb.

Please say that it is just user error and not the case.;)

I am confused with your answer Harley... does that mean they can't or can use more than one controller with that game?

And I am looking for a site that lists all the 4 player games for the wii... Is there such a beast?

Thanks for this thread! the kiddos got one for Christmas too! Santa brought them Play & a couple others that I know nothing about & were thinking of returning.... Wonder World, Game Party, Candy Factory & Cooking Mama.

None of these look that exciting for elementary age kids. We really want FIT - so we wanna use the returns to go toward the Fit.

Do you think that's a good idea? or is there a game that I really shouldn't return 'cause it's just great?

Wonder World is AWFUL. I would take that one back in a heartbeat. I tried it last night and really think it may be the worst Wii game I have ever played. DS had interest in it for about 30 minutes but hasn't played since!

Wii Fit is fantastic!

We have had our Wii for about a year and LOVE it! Well, I gave my daughters Rock Band for Christmas and they took it to their grandparents' house where the whole family congregates. Oh my gosh, that thing took over! Everyone really got into it! My cousin has already uploaded video of family members playing on her Facebook. In fact, one family member immediately went out on Christmas eve and bought it for her husband to open for Christmas day! Anyway, I just can't sing it's praises enough! I think I may go out and get a second guitar...

I also gave my daughter (almost 15 years old) the My Sims Kingdom. She loves playing Sims on her computer so I thought she'd get a kick out of it. She did! So did her older sisters! I would welcome any suggestions/recommendations for a girl turning 15 that loves animals and Sims.

Not silly. You can choose to be able to hear yourself or not. And you can adjust the sensitivity of the mic so that it doesn't pick up everything. You can also adjust the singer volume so that the original singer is louder or more quiet. I only have the 360 version, but I assume you just use the buttons on the wii mote--hold them in and a bar will appear in the vocal tract section and you can adjust away. Each adjustable will use a different button.

I don't think so. I think it's annoying too.

The smilies were to welcome the poster to the thread. They had posted elsewhere and I lead them over here since I don't know the answer.

Get her Animal Crossing. It's similar to the Sims, but the characters are animals. Sounds like a perfect fit.

Just so you know with Animal Crossing only one person can save a game, so if there are more than one player in your household and they care about that sort of thing, it is an issue for some.

That's not technically true.

Multiple players can play, they just have to use the same town. DH and I did this. The story events and everything are seperate for each player. It's always fun to leave presents for each other.

But it's true that players can't play at the exact same time--it's not a true multiplayer game.

Our copy of Animal Crossing is currently sitting in my bedroom :headache: DD14 don't want DS10 to mess up 'her' town. So they've been fighting about it for the past few days

We finally hooked our Wii up to our network. We have been having a BLAST playing Mario Kart on-line. It adds so much to the fun of the game!!! How do you add friends & does anyone want to be our friend to play online :) ?

What other games are good to play on-line?

I guess you'd have to go into having mulitiplayers with the understanding that it's 'their' town and have some ground rules like--no cutting down trees or running over flowers. There's little else you have control over. You don't build houses or anything else. And really hurting the town is very hard to do.

Friends are complicated, because Nintendo REALLY wants to protect your kids. You have to share friend codes. I'll PM you ours and how to find yours.

I think Animal Crossing is great online--visiting other people's towns and having them come to yours is fun and essential to gathering everything.

Umm...I haven't played much else online...DH likes to play online with Madden.

Sorry if this has been discussed, but I've read a lot of this huge thread and haven't seen this question, so here goes:

My DH is wanting Tiger Woods Golf 09 because the guy in GameStop told him how great it is. Is there a big difference in the '09 version and the earlier versions? I found the '07 version for around $27 and that sounds great compared the the $50 for the '09 version.

If there is a lot different and it's worth the extra money, I really don't mind spending it, but I just hate wasting the money for no real reason except to the the latest one.

Thanks!

Go to www.wii.ign.com and search for the game title. Then click on the review link. Read the review, it'll explain the changes from last year's game. I would also read the review for the 07 version.
