Official Wii/DS Q/A thread. FAQ in first post! Game reviews in second post!

Sorry if this has been discussed, but I've read a lot of this huge thread and haven't seen this question, so here goes:

My DH is wanting Tiger Woods Golf 09 because the guy in GameStop told him how great it is. Is there a big difference in the '09 version and the earlier versions? I found the '07 version for around $27 and that sounds great compared the the $50 for the '09 version.

If there is a lot different and it's worth the extra money, I really don't mind spending it, but I just hate wasting the money for no real reason except to the the latest one.

Thanks!

My husband got the 2009 version for Christmas. He really enjoys it. But it is also cool that my 6 year old can play right along with him. She of course plays Tiger and he plays himself. :)

Tiger 07 and Tiger 09 are different. Graphically, not much different, but gameplay is really different. 07 was just thrown together to get another golfing game out there, but they made improvements for the 08 game. Then made even more improvements for 09. All Play is the biggest difference and I think someone has already stated that their husband and child can play the game and that is true and makes it a game the whole family can play. I would spend the extra and get the newest version. Especially if it is the first time you have purchased the game.

Thanks for everyone's replies about the Tiger Woods golf games. I guess I'll spoil him just like I would the kids!

Any thoughts on Tomb Raider, has anybody tried it out? I'm thinking of picking it up, I've always loved the game. I enjoyed the gamecube version but thought it was a bit too easy. I prefer Tomb Raider to take a bit more time.

yes, that is right no wii for me yet :scared1: But I have finally gotten on board and decided to get it for the family, so please, can someone tell me what do I need to make sure I have. I have been surfing all over looking at deals and offers, and my head is swimming :confused3 . I know I need a Wii console, but some of the offers have nunchuks and remotes and games and chargers and crossbows (for zelda), and steering wheels, and bundles and no bundles, and everything under the sun!!!! I am just trying to figure out what I need to buy to get started, can someone please help me????????? If it helps, there are 3 of us (me, DH, and DD16), and I want the Wii fit, Zelda, and then I guess some other good games for the DD, DH.....I'll buy the Wii fit and Zelda later for my bday in June, SO, what would be the best package to get me started?????? Any help would be wonderful! TIA!

Please, just read the first post in the thread. It has my feelings about what you need as well as another poster's.

I don't recommend bundles unless you NEED every single thing in them, which is just about never. The crossbow thing is a seperate game and not really worth it to start out.

I would get the system and the games YOU want now, because I think you and your DD will enjoy both of them and DH probably will like Zelda. You only need one Wii mote for both of those, but I think Wii Play is a good way to go and get the second wiimote. And then I'd get DH to pick out his own game. I can help with that if you tell me more about what he likes.

Did you read the reviews on www.ign.com? I haven't played the game, so I really can't help too much...I've always been terrible at TR! :scared:

I did, just wandered what people here thought. Most people that do reviews seem to be system snobs to me. I've always liked my Nintendo systems, I know I'm not getting amazing graphics but it's never bothered me in the past.

I agree, it's jsut a good place to start. The site also has reviews from actual gamers too, you can try those or sometimes Amazon has some.

I don't think anyone has brought it up on here before, so I fear you might not get a response.

So we got Link's Crossbow Training with the WiiZapper for Christmas. I love it! I know, it's not exciting like some games, but I was looking for something similat to the shooting game with Wii Play(and little like the original NES DuckHunt) and this is great! THe best thing is, it was really cheap. I got it this fall. Target had the Wii Zapper on sale and it had the game bundled inside it. I have looked for a good shooter game for almost ayear and finally decided to cave and buy this one. I am happy I did!

We have RockBand for Wii (the 2st one) and got the 2 track packs from Santa. Now thinking about getting RB2. And maybe the AC/DC trackpack. Has anyone here done that? According to what I've read I can use the RB2 disc with my RB1 instruments, right?

Also, we got a 2nd guitar from Target. It's the Rockster, I think(sells for $49--got it Black Friday for $30+). It works for both GH and RB for the wii and we love having it, since we also got GH: Aerosmith. I am a bigger fan of RB than GH, but maybe that's because I learned on RB.:confused3 Either way, we are loving these games.

Ya just had to post that the Crossbow training is great right after I told someone not to buy it. :thumbsup2 :p I think it's a fun quick game, but not something to start building your collection with is all.

BTW I learned on GH and I still much prefer RB. :thumbsup2 And yes you can use your RB 1 and 2 stuff interchangeably.

Sorry! It's definitely not a serious gamer's game. But if you liked DuckHunt back in the day on the original NES and you enjoy the target shooting on Wii Play, then it's a good, cheap(er), quick game.

Shoot, I was afraid you were going to say that. :-(

WOW! This is the 3000th post! Sweet!

Yeah Sorry!.... Even I myself how am EXTREMELY CAREFUL with all of my videogames (an*l if you will...just ask the wife how crazy/and careful I am) broke a drum pedal...I thought it was the end of the world!

Yes all your Rb1 stuff works with RB2....and RB is by far a superior game to GH it's not even funny....some people still think Gh is the bomb..but to be honest after GHII Harmonix left activision and created Ropckband (So in other words teh creators of both games are actually still working on RB but not on GH) I have major complaints about GH (but I wont make a super long post here about it) Lets just say I agree RB is better then GH.

Also..even though it cost too dang much, the AC/DC came is the best solo group track pack/game ever! Let me warn you it's nearly impossible to sing like them! You'll be horse for days afterwards;) (it's the best for now anyway until the Beatles game launches sometimes this next year!--see a few pages back for more info :) )

Can't help you unfortunately..and your right most reviewers are "system snobs"

What I can tell you is if you have always been a nintendo fan..you'll love the guys at IGN's Wii and Ds site...they are Nintendo guys through and through....in fack Matt Cassamasia(sp?) the main guy on the wii site has been workign at ign's Nintendo only sections since the n64 days! Bozon..the second in charge at teh wii site has only been around for about 5 years i think..but he's all nintendo (in fact his bro is making a downloadable wii game as I type this!) And Craig on the ds site has been doing handheld review since the Gamboy Color days!((I write this now and realize I have been reading their site since I was in Highschool more then 10 years ago! :lmao: ))

That said They are going to tell you it like it is...if a game sucks..they will let you know. They simply want the fun great games we had back inteh day the Kid Icarus', Punch Outs, Marios, Zeldas...they love that stuff. Again though They will Just liek I will trash games that are simply made for a fast buck.

As for teh rest of IGn...I trust them all the guys and ladies there love the videogame world and will pretty much tell you if a game is good no matter if it's for their "favorite" system or not. Sure they will defend thier system of choice but don't well all!?? There isn't a game site out there I trust more then IGN.com.

OK enough of my gushing praise...back to game playing of my own!

I'm just messing with you! I just thought the timing was funny. We bought crossbow training for the exact reasons you detail.

Yeah Sorry!.... Even I myself how am EXTREMELY CAREFUL with all of my videogames (an*l if you will...just ask the wife how crazy/and careful I am) broke a drum pedal...I thought it was the end of the world!

YOU didn't break it, Chris our Expert drumming drummer did, because it's a cheap piece of junk especially for the higher difficulties. You would've just been bad at higher levels to protect the pedal. :p

I'm looking to get a Star Wars game for my geeky boyfriend's birthday. He normally plays strictly computer games, but gladly plays with us on the Wii.

What do you think is the best Star Wars game for the Wii? I'm torn. The light saber one seems cool because 2 people can fight, but the other one (I can't remember the name) seems more along the lines of the computer games he normally plays.

I know... I can go on IGN, but I would like some input from my fellow DIS'ers!

We got the star wars complete saga and it seems to be quite fun. And a bargin at $19.99
