Official Wii/DS Q/A thread. FAQ in first post! Game reviews in second post!

Thanks Mean Queen and The Horned King! I am off to look for Raving Rabbids now! I believe I saw the second one on sale at Target for $19.99 - so I think I'll start there. Maybe I'll bre able to catch the first one even cheaper over the coming weeks! And for those of you who mentioned the third one using the balance board - that sounds awesome too! Thanks again everyone!:goodvibes

Thanks Justin and msbornkuntry,

Any more endorsements or suggestions for DS games for a 4yo girl? We will probably get her one game to start, maybe 2.

Thanks!

Joey

Those are the games I would check out. Also since she is only 4, I would head over to GameStop or EB Games and see if they have any of these games used. I bought the Smartgirls Playhouse for $14.99 and the Crayola game was only $10.

I am ready to get Little Mac back in the ring. I downloaded Punch Out the day it came out on the VC. I am really more excited about the possibilty to play VC games straight from the SD card slot. I don't have a storage issue yet, but it seems to me that the better the games get the more storage problems I could have. My daughter asked for Guitar Hero World Tour for Christmas already and you can download songs to the Wii and I know that will eat up some space on the hard drive.

not only that they made it so that you can save the downloadable songs strait to an sd card...you only need space for 1 song on the internal flash memory. Gh will load up a song form your inserted Sd card when you choose it...then delet it and put your next downloaded song you chose into the game. It's said to work flawlessly.

THK

Which would you choose? We don't have any such games right now and I'm looking for a Christmas present for DD's. They did ask for Guitar Hero Aerosmith but I'm leaning towards one of the two listed above. Thoughts?

Can anyone recommend any DS games for a 4yo girl?

Our daughter loves pictochat, but it might be nice to get her a real game.

She is into Disney Princess, and just about everything geared toward young girls.

Thanks!

Joey

The Disney Princess game was a hit with DD5, there are some easy levels and harder ones but if you help her with the harder ones, then she will get the hang of it quick. It is actually fun.;)

anyone try either of these yet? Was thinking of getting this for my 5 1/2 yr old for the holidays.

Welcome,

as for weither to choose RB or GH:WT...the choice is a hard one. I'm a huge Rockband fan( but i play it on my xbox360..so i download songs for it to keep it fresh.) RB for the wii already has the original game, a second disc of songs and now RB2 with more songs...only downside is that you have to switch discs out to play all the songs.

With GH:WT comming soon you'll be able to download new songs to an sd card and play them directly in the main game...also you will be able to go back and play GH3 and Gh Aerosmith so the total songs should be pretty equal for wii owners.

My suggestion is to look at the track lists for both games and see which one excites you more.

It really comes down to personal preference. So sorry I can't help you anymore then that.

Circuit City is advertsing DS Lites tomorrow for the usual price, but with a free game, either Cake Mania or Sonic Rush. Are either of these games any good? Thanks!

I like Cake Mania. I haven't played it on DS but online. If you want to try it out to see what it's all about - I think you can play a free demo on shockwave games.

We LOVE Carnival Games on our Wii! It's a great family game that we can all play (our youngest DD is 7). Some parts of it are a bit difficult to get exactly right, but it is still fun. Definitely a good buy! Just make sure you have enough Wiimotes for everybody! ;)

I have a Wii but look for games that are appropriate for dd8 and dd4. However I am looking for a game for my 19 year old niece who may not like the same games. Any suggestions for a 19 year old college girl for the Wii? I think she just had wii sports and the game that comes with wii play.

DD8 likes Cake Mania on the nintendo ds. You can check out cake mania for free at mostfun.com to help make your decision.

What do people suggest as the best first games for a 7 year old boy and 9 year old girl? We have never had any kind of video game system, so I'm finding it to be overwhelming!

So far I have bought a Wii console, Wii play, an extra nunchuck (not sure if I really need this?), charger, and Wii fit. I'd like to get each kid a game for Christmas. I'm thinking of one of the Lego ones like Star Wars or Indiana Jones for DS, and maybe Carnival games for DD? Any suggestions on what ones people have that they love would be appreciated!

If you would all take a second to look at the frist few posts of this thread, I would really appreciate it.

There is a post that has TONS of reviews and game suggestions for different audiences and age groups. I do my best to keep it relatively current.

I could be way off base here but I think what is happening is that people are wanting to see what various peoples opinions are about a game and not just read one person's review?:confused3 I know that is the reason I asked about a specific game. You have done an amazing job keeping up wiuth this thread and I thank you so much! :thumbsup2 But I also enjoy reading what some others have to say.:goodvibes

You are definitely not off base!! :thumbsup2 I totally understand and agree with you. I just want to make sure that everyone understands that those recommendations and reviews ARE from various different people that have contributed to this thread over the course of the 3 years it has been in existence. They are not just my opinion!!!!!!!!!!!

Asking about specific games is totally cool!! As is giving us more information about someone to come up with specific recommendations!! No two people are the same.

So if you are looking for recommendations, please tell us more than "looking for games for a 5 year old." (Not that I've seen anyone do that lately ;) ) We need to know their gaming history--how familiar are they with games; and what games they've really enjoyed/hated in the past.

Everyone's been doing a great job of that. It's just at this time of the year, I like to remind everyone, especially everyone new to the thread!

This is tough. I'd like to suggest Zelda and any of the Lego games, but I don't know how casual she is. Do you think she'd like a longer adventure-type game or something she just picks up and plays? I haven't met a teen who doesn't like Guitar hero, but that's a lot more pricey.

Do you think she'd want more party games to play with friends? I can't think of any that would be more adult than what your dd's are probably into :thumbsup2 But Rayman is really fun--That might be a good choice--either one or two...

Thank you!:) I was feeling kind of bad because I asked about raving rabbids and seemed to start a lot of recommendations questions, so I wanted to explain myself. Based on the recommendations I received here I did buy the game, so consider this thread a huge success!:goodvibes

For some reason I thought you were upset and did not take your post the way it was obviously intended... I am sorry!:sad1:

Once again, thank you for all the hard work you put into this thread - I know I appreciate it!:goodvibes

I think you are considering the best choices I could recommend to you. Star Wars is the better of the 2 Lego games and Batman just came out. I'd say it's better than Indy, but Star wars is still the best.

Carnival Games is a big favorite in this thread and you'll be surprised that your DD might really enjoy the Lego games--they are awesome! Be careful with some of the games obviously marketed for girls--they are usually horrible!

I would also suggest either MySims or even better Animal Crossing for your DD. They are both people simulators and are very popular with girls (myself included!):thumbsup2

 Actually, I was trying to think how to soften that post up a bit when you posted!! I felt it was kinda cold and not how I meant it to come across, so thanks for giving me a chance to explain myself!! :thumbsup2
