Official Wii/DS Q/A thread. FAQ in first post! Game reviews in second post!

Can someone recommend a game that would be good for a family (our girls are 6 and 9)
We just hooked up the Wii Friday afternoon and haven't turned it off since :)

Maybe not for all 4 but disney Princess stories is pretty fun. I think you might be able to play with 4 but i know my girls, 9 5 really like it. and they ususally fight over everything.

Thanks for clarifying. We've been waiting for GHWT but maybe we should go with Rock Band? All we have is one guitar so it's not like we'd be adding alot. Which one or upcoming one is suppose to be better? I read where the drum on RB has an extra pad that the GHWT does not? My son plays drum, not sure if that would really factor into this but who knows?

I wish GHWT was already out so it could help w/this decision.

I wish there was an easy answer. My best advice is to look over the song list and choose by that. But if RB really isn't using the wiimotes at all this might be a factor too somehow...I haven't been paying too much attention to the differences since we have the 360 and they work together so we'll have both.

Maybe DH has some advice--tho since he thought they were compatible--I'm not sure how much you want to believe him! ;)

Can someone recommend a game that would be good for a family (our girls are 6 and 9) where we can work together? We are having fun with Wii Sports but find that the girls are sometimes not having fun because they are too competitive. Some competition is good but it would be nice to have a "fun" game that they can work together as a team. It would be great if there was one all 4 of us could play together at the same time as a team.

I can't think of anything that you play 4 players as a team. Mario party allows teams of 2. So maybe team them up against mom and dad? Mario Kart is just racing, but of course is competitive. There has to be something out there, but I can't think of anything.
I'll keep thinking.

Hey all! DH went off and bought de Blob. He loves it. I played a little bit of it and its really good. Its a very fun game and I can tell they really put their heart and soul into this game. Good music. Good controls. Must warn you though, its very addicting. Once you start playing, you dont wanna stop. Havent tried the multi-player feature yet, and not sure when we will get around playing the multi-player. But when we do, I will report back here how it is.

Boom Blox has a cooperative play section but I'm not sure how tough it would be for a 6 and 9 year old. You might rent it first.

LOL, I did look over the song list and there are alot of songs I've never heard of on both products. Of course I doubt our kids had heard of many of the songs on GH3 either and I don't think it has affected them liking the game.

GH on tour for the DS has more familiar songs on it IMO.

Good to read this as I went out and bought this for my son for his bday next month. He asked for this and for the new Kirby game for the DS.

He will not be disapointed. The only thing I dont like is that they give you a time limit in each part of the town plus time limits on the challenges. I can understand time limits on the challenges. But the town?! :confused3 Yeah I was in this one part of the town and had like 1 min left to get to the exit pool and still had challenges opening up. So next time I play, I think Im gonna revisit that part of the town and see if I can complete the rest of the challenges. When he goes to play, tell him to make sure he paints EVERYTHING. It unlocks challenges and releases the town people from the buildings. And make sure he paints the town people to, because he will get points and they will give him a time thing to add on like an extra 60 seconds onto his "town time."

I have skimmed over several of the pages, but was hopeful to get some information concerning:

1. Dance Dance Revolution for Wii - it looks like something that DD7 will  - do you think there will be any sales before Christmas (looks like around $69 now).

2. Wii Fit - any recommendations on places to find these?

Thanks!

I can't answer your first question--but I've seen the Wii Fit at two of my nearby Targets several times over the last couple weeks.

I just joined this thread because DH finally brought home a Wii last night. :cool1:
I've been playing the Wii Sports that comes with it and boy have I worked up a sweat chasing down that tennis ball.:rotfl:

I guess what I want to know is (without having to go back and read the entire thread) this: Is it a good idea to buy used games from say, Gamestop or another used game retailer? We have a Gamestop nearby and I've never actually been in there because up until now, we haven't really had a gaming console so I didn't need to stop by there.

Thanks.

It depends. We've never had any problem buying used games. Most retailers like Gamestop have a good return/exchange policy for used games if they don't work but there's a time limit, so you need to check the games to be sure they work soon after buying.

However, especially this time of year (with all the sales that usually happen) you can often get new games for close to the same price as a used one. So in my experience used games are a great way to save money or get hard-to-find games if you do your research, but it's worth pricing the games elsewhere just in case you can get it new for close to the same price.

Thank you. I'll definately check out our local GameStop. There's a Blockbuster right next door, so maybe we could rent games before we actually buy them. :)

I like most typical gamers have lots of experience with gamestops and gamecrazys. I buy most of my games at walmart or target or BJ's (that is like Sams club if your not on the East Coast). Games are generally less expensive at these places now only buy a couple of dollars, but then once I have completed the game or have gotten tired of it, i put it away and wait until one of the trade in stores is having a deal. Like this weekend Gamestop was running a special that if you trade in 2 or more games you recieve 5 extra dollars per game toward your purchase. so this weekend i traded in 3 games and received $89 for my trades. I kind of went on a little there, sorry. The other thing is buying used games. I do this as much a possible. you need to treat this like buying a used car even though you get it a cheaper cost you also get all the problems. Most of the problems are scratched discs, and they do have a return policy on them also most of the time if you ask they will let you play the used copy to make sure it works before you buy it. Finally renting games is wonderful for a very cheap cost you can try the game and if you don't like it you can give it back, if you do like return it then head over the gamestop or gamecrazy and buy the game used. Gamecrazy is the best for this because they are part of Hollywood Video and the rented games end up in the used games section of Gamecrazy after they have been rented enough times for the Hollywood Video to make a profit on them. Again sorry for the long post just want you to have the info. I have been gamming since I was 8 so that is 22 years of this.

Some here like Rayman Raving Rabbids 2 and it was on sale new at a local store for $20, ign gave this game a 6.3, so is it worth it for $20? We already own Playground and Carnival Games and they like these, so will they like this one too? I'm searching for good deals for christmas gifts.

I think it's worth $20. That's what we paid for it. It has all the mini games and is funny (Fart Wars--cracks me up--yes, I ma like a 10yo boy laughing at fart stuff;) ). We also own Playground and Carnival games, but RRR2 is much more fun, imo.

About gamestop - DH and I have traded in many games and also have bought used copies as well, generally with the gamestop bucks we get from our trade-ins. Typically we buy new games at best buy because I perfer buying my games from there so I can get best buy reward zone dollars. If anyone wants to buy used games or trade their games in at gamestop, I would recommend joining their membership thing they have. I cant remember how much it costs a year, I think like $10 or $20 a yr, but you get an extra 10% back on all trade-ins PLUS you also get 10% of ALL used games. Thats how we were able to get the de Blob. We traded in a bunch of games that we knew we would never touch again, I think we traded in like 10 games - mostly PS2, I think 3 Wii games and 1 PS3 game. And at the end I had to pay $0.12 out of pocket :rotfl:

As for blockbuster - One way you could do it is if you wanna rent 2 games at a time, join mycokerewards.com and with your points you can print out coupons for blockbuster rent 1 game and get 1 free rental. Same thing applies for movies as well, so if you have points but no games you wanna rent, you can use your points for movies. And with game rental being so expensive (I think $8 a game), over time those $8 amounts will add up, so if you use your points for game rentals that will help save you some money.

Thanks to everyone that has been answering all these questions. You rock!

Hey All! Joining over here because Santa's bringing our family the Wii and Wii Fit for Christmas. I've read several other threads about games and such and thinking I'm goning to have Santa look for the Wii Play (game and extra remote right??) and the Carnival games. I'd like something DS4 and DS2 will be able to play.

Also, is it fairly straight forward set up like I can open the box, hook up a cord and start playing? Or is it going to be more of a headache than that??? I'm hoping easy but would like to know if it's not going to be. We'll be opening gifts at home after either driving for two days or getting off a plane then driving to our house so it'll be between opening the gifts that night or making them wait until the next morning.

TIA for any helpful tips! Hopefully I'll have time to go back and read through this while DH's gone for two weeks...Santa won't be telling him about this present so I've got to do some secret research! :thumbsup2

Setting up the Wii is headache free!! It takes just a few minutes to plug everything in and then a few minutes of getting your Mii (character for each player) set up. You could set it up ahead of time and have everything ready and then wrap it back up. But really, it's easy.

Wii newbie here. I know I should get an extra wii-mote, but how necessary is the extra nunchuk? I know I need it for the boxing game with Wii Sports for 2 players, but I'm getting my girls Disney Princess and the "Order Up" game and I think that just uses the Wii-mote. Can I get by without another nunchuk for a while?
