Official Wii/DS Q/A thread. FAQ in first post! Game reviews in second post!

Picked up Super Smash Brawl at Target on Sunday but because my kids had projects and other homework to do, it has been hidden and unwrapped. Today while shopping at Costco they had a large display of the game and for over $6 less than Target (so that one will be returned).

I have held them off about as long as possible and I finally am letting them play it for 30 mins today, then all homework needs to be completed, then they can play it again. Am I like the meanest parent on the planet now? They think that I am. :upsidedow

Yes, you are a meanie... :p No way, I would do the same thing!
Not sure if this has been asked before, but is there a Dance Dance Revolution DisneyChannel Edition for the Wii? I saw a bundle for Playstation 2, just not sure if they make it for the Wii.

Thanks!!

I have no idea, but I'm almost postive this is a no. Go to www.ign.com and search for the title of the game and it'll show you which platforms it's available on.
Has anyone done Guitar Hero co-op career with a friend through Wi Fi? Our friend gave us their friend code, but we haven't tried it yet. I wanted to see how it worked for anyone else.

Yes, it's pretty fun. It's much better to have them right there with you, but the co-op adds a tremendous amount to the game--it's like having a whole new game.
Is anyone else having problems getting Super Smash Bros Brawl to play online either with "anyone" or with "registered friends"? DH and I have been trying to get on, but keeps disconnecting us and not being able to join other rooms created by other players.

Well at least now I know its not just us. We can connect to the Wi-Fi, but the moment we try to get a game started either with anyone or with our registered friends, we get disconnected from the network and have to re-connect. We were trying to create a game room 2night with a friend of ours and we both had problems. I think DH is gonna work on the connection problem 2morrow. He might call Nintendo and see whats up, why we cant connect. With all the people in this world that have the game now, their servers are probably on overload with all the people trying to gain access to the wi-fi. Cuz you have all the people in the US and in Japan. Not sure about the other countries if they have the game yet or not. Anyways, thats a lot of people and maybe Nintendo's servers arent just big enough to cover everyone yet. Although we have no problems connecting to the wi-fi for mario strikers. :confused3

We haven't tried as far as I know. I think the problem is more that the server may not be up and running yet. Ususally when the games are first released Nintendo is slow to get them going online. I had hoped Smash would be different.
I'll have DH try tonight.

DDR Disney Channel is only for the PS2

Sort of off topic but in that vein:

Anyone know for sure if it will work on an 80GB, PS2 compatible (via software, not Emotion engine) compatible PS3?

I'm thinking of picking it up for the kids, but really don't want to have to drag out my old PS2.

I would look it up to be sure. You could just google it. But I'll do it for you...hang on a sec.

The Playstation website says it's not, but I don't know anything about software that mods the 80gig, so beyond that I'm not much help.

Maybe start a new thread with the question? Most of us here don't own a PS3 (I have everything else tho! lol), let alone understand the backwards compatible stuff. DH might have a clue though.

I would give it a day or two and start a new thread. Normally I would say to try asking at Gamestop, but they are pretty bad at Backwards compatability.

I would imagine that Sony has message boards like these that would be the quickest way to get answered. That's what we did with a similar question for our Xbox.

Good luck! I don't get why backwards compatibility has to be so complicated!

Thanks for looking!

Yeah, I'll hit the Sony sites. Their web site is blocked for me at work (as are most game sites) and I keep forgetting to do it when at home.

Backwards compatibility for the PS3 has been nuts. The early PS3's were "hardware" backwards compatible, with an extra chipset built in to emulate the PS2. The "newer" PS3's, like my 80 GB version, do the compatiblity with software emulation...and the compatibility isn't as good (and works on fewer titles). The NEWEST PS3's give up the ghost, all together, and eliminate all the backwards compatibility. Confusing, at best.

I've got 'em all....360, Ps3, Wii. I REALLY like the backwards compat on the 360 and the Wii. So far I've yet to have to break out my old xbox or GC. However...the Ps3's I've been less than happy with.

No the server is up and running. DH was able to get on 1 time the other day after trying several times. And according to DH last night our friend was finally able to get on. So the server is up and running. It just a pain in the butt to get on sometimes and I hope Nintendo fixes the problem soon. Its one of the main reasons why we got the game, because we can play online.

That's good to hear, sort of. :)

The online compenent of the Wii has been really disappointing to me. Especially now that I see how great it can be with my Xbox--tho Microsoft does totally nickle and dime you which sucks.

This would be majorly bad for Nintendo if they can't get it more stable. I bet it'll be running smooth in the next couple of weeks.

Yeah we can play online just fine with the PS3. Personally I think PS3 online capabilites is better - its free!

Aside from the general web based reviews on the gaming websites that are most often posted by teenage boys who probably hate most non-violent Wii games to begin with, has anyone here - ie. mainly adults - played the Wii game "Carnival Games"?

DW and I are looking for another game that we can both play and haven't been able to find Carnival Games to rent anywhere in our local Blockbusters, so we're hesitant to spend money on it since some of the games we have rented have been horrible (MonkeyBall for instance...)

As a comparison, we think Mario Party 8 is pretty fun for the two of us. I would think Carnival Games would be somewhat similar in style if not content?

My son also had a problem playing online in SSBB. He was able to play against someone online, but he said that the game kept freezing up.

Hope this hasn't been asked before because wow there are a lot of pages in this thread!

DS5 was helping me vacuum and got a little too close to the wii.... The sensor bar wire lost the plug part where it connects into the wii. Now that DH fixed the belt on the vacuum because that broke too I need some ideas where I can buy a new sensor bar? I've seen wireless ones online but I'm not sure how good they are. Haven't even seen the sensor bar with the wire sold anywhere. Although if the wireless work well I might want to stay away from the kind with wires.

I don't know yet. I bought it for the kids' Easter baskets and am dying to play! I have heard from friends that it was quite fun. I'll let you know in about 10 days....

Call Nintendo up and see if they will send you another one for free. If not, im sure you can just order 1 from them right over the phone. DO NOT get the wireless one. I have read plenty of reviews where they all say the same thing - it sucks.

DH and I HAD it. We turned it in when we got Super Smash Bros for store credit to help pay the game off. We also traded in a bunch of other games as well. Enough to where we paid off super smash bros, mario kart for wii AND wii fit and we still have $20 on the credit. Anyways, about the game. Its a good game, but I wouldnt pay $50. I would wait until it drops down in price - unless it already has. Anyways, I played it, unlocked everything and then I toss it to the side and just left it be, until it found itself in gamestop. The controls can be a little glitchy and theres also a HUGE glitch in ALL copies of the game. On the part where you can pick different sections to go to, well when you pick one of them (cant remember which one), theres a major glitch - it shows a VERY white screen. You can still hear music and bearly make out whats on the screen. We've gotten 3 copies of this game, and every single copy we had, exact same glitch, in the exact same spot. We to used to have Mario Party 8, but I got bored of it rather quickly. Same for carnival games. Its good to play by yourself to unlock stuff, but its WAY funnier to play with other people. If you want a good multiplayer game - get Mario & Sonic at Olympics or super smash bros. brawl. Oh yeah, if you want to read any actual reviews from the real pros who are adults by the way, go to ign.com. They are mine and DH main source for all video games. If they say the game is great, we will get it. If they give it a horrible score and review, then we dont get it. Ign has NEVER let us down yet.

Others have posted, but I'll add. There are reviews for this game on the first page of this thread from other dissers. Most families have really enjoyed it, but I can't believe it would be the best choice for adults. I would HIGHLY recommend renting Smash Brothers or Mario and Sonic before considering Carnival games. It is not worth the cost. And as for reading reviews from other people, I will also say that www.ign.com is the best place. They are professionals and within reviews will often say who the game is best for even if they wouldn't consider buying it. If they tell you a game is awful, you can better believe the game is awful.

I second calling Nintendo. They are awesome about that stuff.

I haven't done much research about the wireless bars, but I honestly wouldn't mess around. It's a key component to the system and it has to work perfectly to get the most out of it. Call Nintendo

I answered this question the first time you asked it.:confused3

Which DMC are you talking about? There are several. You can find answers to most questions about any version from www.ign.com

Hi guys,

Tonite I just bought the original Sonic the Hedgehog using Wii Points. Downloaded with no problems, but the game doesn't display properly on the screen. Have any of you had problems like this? We have a 50" plasma, and I'm wondering if that is the problem? The screen will scroll (I'll see the graphics), and then will just go black - all the while, you can still hear the music and I can hear Sonic jump when I hit the Jump button.

Any ideas on things I could try? DH has the Wii connected through a component cable to our Receiver.

Thanks all!!

Completely regular gameplay.
DS says you can only do "matches" online...I think he was hoping they could do adventure mode or one of the other mode type things together online but they can only do matches.

He was able to play with a friend, the screen loaded slowly and froze here and there but basically worked ok. Everytime he tries the "connect with a random person" choice it kicks him out though. He was able to play with a friend using the friend's code.

Hoping somebody can offer some advice here. My daughter hasn't played her wii for a while (a broken foot is not compatible with the wii :)) Anyway, she got it out tonight and one of the wiimotes won't work :( None of the lights turn on at all. I went out and bought brand new batteries and still nothing. We tried pushing the sync button but it seems as if there is no power to the wiimote at all.

Any thoughts on what to do? Although I bought the wii last July, she has only had it open since Christmas.
