Official Wii/DS Q/A thread. FAQ in first post! Game reviews in second post!

Just wanted to add that I concur about the nunchucks posting above. :thumbsup2 We have 4 wi-motes but only 2 nunchucks. We haven't never needed more than that (yet ;) ).

Just a tip. I walked into Gamestop this morning and they had just gotten their shipment! Can I be lucky or what? So, I would ask what day they get their shipments in and keep calling until they get them in. Now all I have to do is figure out what gams to get a 12 year old and a 5 year old. Thrillville probably for the older but the five year old? Any tips?
:cool1:  :woohoo:

We seem to be doing the 5 year old question a lot lately. maybe I should put it in the FAQ. :teeth:

With a 5 year old you want as least reading as possible (duh). I suggest Mario Party, Rayman, and Wario Ware--actually any multiplayer mini game game. Folks around here really like Carnival games too. Those games are played by the whole family so the youngest has time to learn the controls.

Play Wii Sports a lot with the younger one and then get them some games with their favorite movie characters, like Spongebob or some of the Disney games (NOT Cars, it's too hard). And pick up Wii Play. I think it is EXCELLENT for learning control for the wii-mote for all ages, plus you get the "free" wii-mote.

Keep tuned to this thread and we'll give updates for games. i'll try to remind DH to give a heads up for any games that are paticularly good for the new gamers!

12-year old: Zelda, Super Paper Mario, Guitar Hero, Metriod, Mario Galaxy, Zack & Wiki.

Oh good! Thanks for posting that!

Does anyone know anything about the Meet the Robinson's game? I got this for one of the buy 2 get one free at TRU and because my 10 yr old DD loved this movie I thought she might enjoy the game. Or does anyone think it would be better to get Paper Mario or Shrek instead??? I thought it would be fun to have one Disney game since she loves Disney so much. Any of the other Disney games any better??

This will be a xmas gift and the other games we got to go with the system are Wii Play
Monkey Ball Banana Blitz
Mario Galaxy( when it's released)

I think these will be enough games to start with ---am I right??

Also do we need another nunchuck?? One does come with the system right??

This is a great thread thanks for your help and info!!

Just wanted to say about 5 year olds and reading - it can be used as a bribe! My DD age 4 really wants a nintendo DS like her big brother age 7. I told her that she has to learn to read first, which I think is pretty much true. She's learning letters and sounds at pre-school and I'm going to start working with her at home on words. Before she was never motivated, but now she has a reason.

There's also a good chance she won't be able to read for quite a while, which gets me off the hook for another DS!

I don't think you need to pick up another nunchuck right now. Just wait until you get something where you need it. Those games are fine to start with.

I don't have any knowledge about any of the disney games except Cars, since people here said it's really hard.

Here's IGN's review:
http://wii.ign.com/articles/776/776312p1.html

I think 10 is too old to be playing games that aren't worth their cost (95% of licensed games). BUT if she loves the movie and really wants the game, I say go for it, She'll learn pretty quick that great shows/movies don't usually become great games.

Great idea! Especially with the DS since it's by far the most fragile system!

DS5 will be getting one for his birthday in December! :yay: I'm sure I'll have lots of questions for you guys after we open the box!!! :goodvibes I can't wait!!!:woohoo:

Guess what DH and I are going as for Halloween?

Princess Peach and Mario!! I'll post pictures if everything turns out well. (I'm still working on both costumes!

I was in Target today and they had a Wii accessories kit (golf club, baseball bat and tennis racket) that hooks to the remote for Wii games. Has anyone used this yet? Is it worth it and do you need two sets if you have two players?

Thanks

Oh, I definitely want to see pictures!!! What a FUN idea!! Will you be wearing these costumes to work? I bet the kids would get a huge kick out of it! :thumbsup2

I tried to wade through some of the 59 pages of this thread and never found my answer, so here's my question. My DD12 is hooked on High School Musical-I see there is a Wii game coming out. Will this come with the microphone or is that an extra purchase?

From what I have seen, I am pretty sure it comes with the microphone.

Are we a LITTLE obsessed:scared1: Must be a Cleveland thing:rolleyes1

Just slightly. I HATE costume parties, but I might as well do something fun. Hopefully it'll turn out okay.

It's a total waste of money IMO. You would need two sets for two players. But they don't DO anything except make the wii-mote vaguely look like the attachment. They are too small to really be life like or anything.

If it turns out really good, i'll wear it to work...we'll see. :teeth:

Yes, the game comes with the microphone. Don't hesitiate to just ask other questions. If you don't see it in the FAQ any question is fair game.

Harleyquinn it was you who recommended the games to me sorry not to give you credit but here it is now. :thumbsup2

Is there any other attachments I need to consider purchasing? These could be great stocking stuffers.

This may be stupid but can the Nintindo DS play on the Wii?

No the Ds can not play on the wii... however like the DW said, there is some interactivity with the ds through the pokemon game.

In the best news look at some of the tidbit's I posted a few pages back..sometime after the New Year nintendo will release free downloadable demo's of dsgames through the wii shop channel! you will be able to play the game as long as your ds is on but once it's turned off it disappears...should be cool to try out those new ds games.

The x-mas rush of games begins!
-Families are sure to love EA's Playground
-The long running Sims games continue thier arrival on the Wii.
-Zack & Wiki arrives!....this game is for the puzzlesolveing member of the family. Dispite it's cute looks the game is supposed to be brutally hard at points, sometimes taking up to an hour to solve a puzzle!
-Nicktoons games usually aren't the best produced games, but many of the younger family members always enjoy playing as their favorite cartoon characters.
-Can't forget Hanna Montanna for all the girls and tweens in the family!
-Believe it! The ninja Naruto is at it again..sure to please all the Anime loving boys in your household!

I'll back back to answer questions as I can! (work just takes up too much time!)

A little more Zack and Wiki Hype...

This game is quickly rising up the ranks to being one of my most anticipated Wii games. It looks great, has an awesome visual style, and the puzzles are hugely elaborate and amazingly clever.

I've already told you more times than should really be necessary that Zack and Wiki: Quest for Barbaros' Treasure is a must-buy Wii title for fans of puzzle adventure games that really make you think.

Zack and Wiki, with its family-friendly vibe and cel-shaded cartoon style, is a very good game. And while an intelligent kids will almost certainly dig it, so will intelligent adults. There's a lot to like here: Stylish visuals, challenging puzzles, and a nostalgic re-imagining of the point-and-click adventures of yore.

In the end, Zack & Wiki turned out to be much more fun that I had expected. Even when playing Capcom's more heavily hyped Resident Evil: Umbrella Chronicles and Devil May Cry 4 at the same event, I kept thinking about how to solve Zack & Wiki's other puzzles, and how to beat levels faster than before. There may be no ninjas to keelhaul, but the game's focus on challenging the brain more than reflexes is refreshing and enjoyable in a third person adventure, and it is done in visually appealing style. If a puzzle game can appeal this much to an action gamer, then it has the potential to charm just about anyone.

AND TO TOP IT ALL OFF.....
ZACK & Wiki will only cost...$39.99

Good updates! :teeth:

But your siggy's too big! lol (They made new rules...it can't be more than 250 pixels high.)

Thanks Joiseygirl and Harleyquinn for the info about High School Musical including the microphone! Now I have to try to find it next month! Our Toys-r-us has buy 2 games get one free on right now so I went in with my list (gleened from the tips here of course) and they were all sold out of most Wii games and all that I hoped for. They young man working said to check back each day as they get trucks in each morning. What a pain, but to save $49.00-its worth it!
