The guy at Gamestop told me that the Wii remote could be used for the old school games?? (at least, for Mario which is what I asked about). He kind of guesstured like you would turn the remote sideways and use it like a regular controller? I can't check it out since my Wii is wrapped and waiting for Santa.

That's true.

You hold it horizontally and use the D-Pad to move and the 1 and 2 buttons as A and B buttons.

It only works for Nintendo Entertainment System games though...you need to buy a Classic Controller if you want to play Super Nintendo Entertainment System or Nintendo 64 games.

I.E. Super Mario Bros. will work, Super Mario 64 won't.

Go to the Wii Shop Channel and click on 'Buy Wii Channels'.

You can download a free demo.

It takes a bit but while it downloads you'll be shown a delightful little animation of Mario collecting coins.

Since my sons are getting an IOU for the Wii, I bought every accessory I could, thinking I might return some. It sounds like we can do without the $50 memory card. Am I correct in also assuming that the covers for the controllers would also be a waste of $?

Any SD card will work of 2 Gb now. Rumor that 4 GB might be possible in future. You are paying for "Wii" on the official SD card.

The covers I'm not that sure about. I feel comfortable playing without one but couple of friends really like them.

Ohhhh some guy FRE-AK-ED out at Target tonight. He wanted the display Wii and they told him no. He was cussing loudly every name in the book!! Good lord, he said he was only shopping Walmart from now on. I have never seen an adult flip a lid over not getting something. Totally in-appropriate.

Joey, my son said he heard can not sell the displays, but said the displays do not have the controller or CD that came with it? Seems like he said something else was missing. I forget. Is this true? If it doesn't come with the controllers or CD it doesn't even seem 'worth' it exactly.

My nephews are going to be so excited in the morning when they see Santa left them a Wii!!

I already had to replace the batteries in the controllers. Little turkeys have totally played ours!

I did get the golfing game for *me*. Joey said it is really good. If you like the one on the CD it comes with, you'll really enjoy this game.

My nephews LOVE Tony Hawk. They don't know it but we got them one for Christmas heheheee they think they have to come over to play it.

Yes, a $50 memory card is a waste. I used a regular SD card that I bought for $2.99 on Black Friday and it works fine. (Sandisk SD card). You don't need a cover for the controller either.

I just wanted to thank everyone for all of the advise in this thread. My kids are having a blast, with Santa's gift. (I get no credit for waiting in the freezing cold overnight at best buy... because of santa magic)..

But, we are very well prepared with great kid friendly games, an extra remote and nunchuck, our classic controller, wii points..

Quick Zelda question.

We went through the movie in the beginning and Linc's Horse got stolen. We are stuck in the beginning scene where that one man tells him to grab the horse and get moving--we can't get past that.

Do we need to talk to this guy? What do we do?

Ds said he just ran down the path the horse went. He used the numchuk to move.

18 games of tennis....I'm a bowling man myself and could just bowl with my Wii all day long!

If you search Wii Easter Eggs--you will find out a few things in Wii sports.

My DH figured out how to change the color of your bowling ball (before you turn pro), how to change the type of tennis court and one more thing--(I can't remember what)

So search that out and you will out something fun.

It's all done by pressing the D-pad in different directions before starting the game(the individual game not the whole system)

Most of them yes....Turbographix16 and some genesis no....
In the latest Nintendo Power they have a list of what types of virtual games work with what controler....

The only controler that works with all is...The Classic Controler($20 at a store near you! IF you can find one)

The displays at this point are nothign more then the base unit playing videos...no game and no controlers....you may notice they sensor bar isn't there either.

As for why they can't sell that unit(besides the above) it's not thiers to sell it belongs to nintendo! Not to mention most stores don't even have the key to opend the display that it is in.

I've replaced my batteries a couple of times already...thinking about trying rechargeables.
A few tips to make it last a little longer.
1)IF you don't care about eh rumble feature you can turn it off. the rumble box sucks alot of battery power.
2) you can also turn down the volume of the speaker in the wiimote. This isn't a huge deal, but i have also noticed that if you dorp it to either 3 or 4 bars the sound quallity is much better.
