Official Wii/DS Q/A thread. FAQ in first post! Game reviews in second post!

Just so everyone knows, Nintendo's official stance is that you can only use NiMH rechargable batteries and that anything else could kill you controller and void your warrenty.
There is a new type of rechargeable batteries by Rayovac called "hybrid" (Sanyo also makes a similar one called "eneloop"), and they come fully charged and claim to hold their charge for 9 months when not used. They are made of the same elements as standard NiMH rechargeables, but the nickel-metal alloy is treated with a chemical process that allows the batteries to hold their juice longer. I wonder if these would be okay for the Wii controller?

There was talk of those on NED's thread and he said the website for the batteries said they were NiMH, so they would be fine if that was true.

With the amount of problems there seems to be with the Wii-motes, I'm going to stick with straight NiMH to be safe (at least for now). It does seem that they are perfectly fine if they work out of the box, it's only when they are dead to begin with that people have had issues.

Thanks for the info!

DS11 beat Zelda! Just now! I think the last save log said he put about 55hours into it. Has anybody else beaten it? He's already started a new file and he's going to beat it again he says but this time he wants to get all the bugs and all the Poes.

Silly question here on gamecube games...can you believe we haven't even played one gamecube game on the Wii yet? Anyhow, I wanted to confirm that the classic controllers work with gamecube games. We haven't bought any of those yet but may invest in one or two so we don't have to plug in the gamecube controllers.

Just need to check...are you confirming that the classic works with GC, or are you asking for confirmation?

DS just tried to play Lego Star Wars, and although the game started correctly, we couldn't get either the Wii remote or the classic controller to work at all. (We never had Game Cube, so we don't have a GC controller.)

Thanks!

ETA: Just found my answer on the Nintendo website in one of the community forums:

Q: Can the Wii Classic Controller be used to play GameCube games?
A: No. GameCube games require a GameCube controller to be connected to your Wii to be played.

Q: Why can't I use the Classic Controller to play GameCube games?
A: When the Wii plays GameCube games, it essentially turns itself into a GameCube, turning off additional Wii functionality that didn't exist on the GameCube (such as Bluetooth, which the Wii Remote uses to communicate with the console.) Since the Classic Controller plugs into the Wii Remote, and the Wii Remote cannot communicate with the Wii durning GameCube sessions as Bluetooth is apparently disabled, there is currently no way for the Classic Controller to send information to the Wii during GameCube gaming sessions.

Thanks for your post!

I was asking for confirmation...and now I find out that the opposite is true. I'm so glad I read this, the thought that we could use these controllers with gamecube games made us more anxious to get a few but now I don't think we'll bother right away.

Looks like you'll need to invest in a gamecube controller. The lego starwars game is fabulous by the way.

My thread is back!

I hope everyone is doing well.

I beat Zelda yesterday and thanks to NED we got Rayman today,. which is really fun!

Go to the local Gamestop or Eb games, or Gamecrazy for Cube controlers....you can get used ones for a frachion of the cost.

My I also suggest if you are going to play a lot of Cube games buy a wavebird the first wireless controler. it's batteries last forever! I got like 6 months out of batteries in these things! that was with playing long games, and long sessions of like 3-4 hours at a time alot!

Anyone wanna Be my Wii friend???(harleys too) PM me your firend code and I'll send you mine!

We keep looking for the actual WII remotes (looked yesterday @ Gamestop and Walmart... nada -nor did they expect any in).

What do you mean by friend? I have seen this on other posts.

If your Wii is hooked up to the Internet you can make friends with other Wiis and send your Miis over to meet other Miis.

Each person has to know the others' Wii code (your system code) to share.

Eventually wii will hook up this way so people can play games against each other.

This will be fun. We have just hooked ours up to the internet but that is about it. We love our Wii. The whole family is enjoying it.

IN other news...EA just showed off some The New Tiger Woods game for wii!! Ign.com has a nice article up on it with pictures! looks like a blast for golf freaks, and those just wanting to have fun alike!

I thought I saw a post where someone mentioned a website that you could access through your wii and play online games with the wii? I can't find it now -- help?

Sorry if this is a repeat question but we just got a Wii and I find the sound coming out of the Wiimote to be too loud - especially when DS is playing at 6:00 am on a Saturday morning!:headache:

We can't figure out if there's a way to turn the sound down or off.:confused3

No way to turn it off. :(

I don't recall it being very loud though.

We have had our Wii for a little over 2 weeks now, and love it. My sons started playing the training part of wii sports, and like those "games" as much as the regular five. Our favorite is Power Bowling. At the end you are trying to knock down around 100 pins at once. Even my wife, who is not a video game junkie, love the Wii

Press the home button on the Wiimote that you want to adjust volume on. When the screen changes to Wiimote screen, click on the picture of the Wiimote. You can adjust the volume level, rumble feature and reconnect Wiimote to Wii. Also, you can check battery strength on this screen.
