Official Wii/DS Q/A thread. FAQ in first post! Game reviews in second post!

Oh I did not think you were I told you soing...is that a word? I'll probably check here before we buy any more.....well, I did just order the wiimote with wii play. But most of the reviews said it was worth the 10.00 you end up paying with the combo. What do you think of the bobble head dolls game....MLB power pros?
You are so helpful!

wow 58 stars!!!, well i am only at 3-4 stars so im am still finding it doable. i hope it doesnt get really really hard but we will see i guess. last night i was almost stuck so i googled..lol. the rest i have been sorta able to figure out on my own, i am finding it lots of fun so far tho.

OMG. This is too funny. I was just scanning through the thread to see any new advice that may have been posted. DS is playing his Wii. He came in to tell me that Santa played the Wii on Dec 7. I told him Santa probably just wanted to make sure it worked before he delivered on Christmas. :rotfl: Not sure why he was poking around the console like that.
Oh, and he's been complaining of his arm and shoulder hurting. I can see it now. A whole new insurance category for Wii related injuries.

That is great! He wasn't really pokeing around the wii...If you go to the wii messageboard you can for how long and what exactly was played on the wii on any given day! It's a great addition, as there is no way to erase it...You will always know what types of games your kids are playing. Also you can leave them memo's right on the board....Mom says no playing games today until you do your homework! It won't stop them from playing but it could help be your voice if you are not at home for some reason.

Are you calling Power Pro a bobble head game or is there some bobble head game I don't know about????

Anyway, Power Pro is supposed to be a pretty fun game...I have not played it myself, but reviews have been possitive. I know a few people on this thread have the game so hopefully they can give you a full review.

58 is nothing...I'm at 76 right now...Then again I am a completeist so I'm trying to get all 121(theres120+1 secret) stars!....Slow and Steady wins the race, and by the time I beat Mario Galaxy Smash Bros should be just arriveing.

well thats what im figuring, i am dong 1-2 stars a night just to get going on it and eventually ill finish it. i dont want to get frustrated with it but i think its a great game. Yes in one of he cheats i saw it says there 121 soi have a LONG way to go..lol.

I had asked my boys if they wanted Guitar Hero and they were not interested in it, sooo now one of them went to a party and played it on a xbox360 and now he really wants it. Of course I can't find it anywhere now, so I guess we'll just be shopping for it over the next few months and he can get that as a bday gift this spring since the Christmas budget is already gone anyways.

OT-Is the PS3 backwards compatible with PS2 games? And after reading about all the xbox360 machines red ring of death, would it be a better investment to go with the PS3? Of course I'm just looking way ahead into the future and may not even buy another system. However there are some games that interest my kids that Nintendo doesn't have.

I do think that there is plenty to play on the Wii for everyone but kids like variety so at some point we may be looking at something else. Most of what they want is avail on the PS2 but if that won't be getting new games then that doesn't seem like the way to go. And by the time we get around to finally buying a new system an even newer one will prob be released a year later.

At least with the Wii we found one last Feb while not even looking for it so we've had it to enjoy for almost a year now.

Has anyone read anything about a new game for the DS with Mario? Wondering if something like Mario Galaxy will come out for that or something else?

I wanted to post DS's reaction to getting a WII. I'd been telling him for months that they were nowhere to be found and not to even bother looking...so he decided he wanted his present from "Santa" to be the Guitar Hero III bundle (for PS2). Well, when he got it Christmas Eve he was really confused about what he might find under the tree in the morning, so I told him maybe Santa would be bringing a "family" gift. Now to my son, this would be the "kiss of death" -- a gift he'd have to share? How could Santa do that to him? Anyway, on Christmas morning there were two separate gifts (one for each child, huge sigh of relief from DS) but I wrapped his to make it look like clothes (the only other thing worse than a family gift!). He seriously took for-ever to unwrap the present because he was trying to not look disappointed. When he finally realized it was a WII he was actually speechless! Once he calmed down a bit he kept saying: "I can't believe I got a WII, I can't believe I got a WII". So needless to say, it was a big surprise, and a big hit!!! Thanks again to everyone on this thread for all your help and support.

Ok to answer your OT questions....
1)The ps3 is backwards compatable with MOST ps2 games.

2) as for if the 360 or ps3 would be better to go with for a 2nd system...that unfortunately is only a question you and yoyr family can answer. It is one I have been dealing with for a long time. I was a fan of the ps2, and HATED(with a passion) the original x-box. Looking at the current ps3 and 360, I do enjoy the x-box and will probably soon own one, I had hoped to want a ps3, but there is nothing on the system that I want to play..other then Uncharted, and soon to be msg4...but 2 games will not make me spend $500+ on a system. I having a hard enough thime telling my self it's ok to buy a 360 to play like 3 games.

As for if the games they like being on the ps2..it would probably be WAY Cheaper to buy a ps2(new or used). Unless you want a bluray player also...then again I will nevr pay $35.00 for a movie i can buy for 16 on normal dvd, but thats another topic.

3) what games interest your children not on the wii...(other then NCAA Football/backetball) I may be able to see what system if any they will be comming to for you.

4)NO New MArio DS games are on the way...If you haven't picked up The NEW MARIO BROTHERS...go get it now! it's classic mario all the way. There are no plans for a Mario Galaxy style game on the ds anytime soon....sadly we are probably not going to see a new mario game for a couple of years. Nintendo is known for not "over saturating" the main Mario line...onlh Putting out a Mario game when they get a good new idea. Something to make it play completely new and different.

hope that helps

DS12 has 30something stars so far. They've all seemed pretty easy to him. I watched a few of the levels and they really didn't look too challenging. I guess they get harder the further into the game you get?

He was just telling me about a secret star on one of the levels that he got....at least I think that's what he was telling me. He was also telling me about the "comet" levels and how there weren't anymore and he wanted to do more "comet" levels. Not quite sure what that's all about as I haven't played the game myself. I dont' usually play any of the quest type games but I usually watch him play and have fun watching and helping him try to figure stuff out.

After all of your great reviews, he got Zack and Wiki and doesn't seem very interested. He played it for about 1 hour with his dad. Finished the first level and met Barbaros and was somewhere in the middle of the next area when they quit. It seems really slow moving and lots of reading. Maybe that's just in the beginning as you learn how the game works. I don't know. Right now it didn't hold his interest but I'm sure he'll return to it after he plays with some of the other games.

I also wanted to report back on Mario/Sonic Olympics. DS had a friend over and they were playing it today. He was less frustrated today and able to mostly make his character do what it was supposed to do but some of the things he just cannot get his guy to do eventhough he's doing the proper hand motion. Running isn't working for him, he always comes in last and there was some kind of throwing thing where you spin the remote in the air over your head and throw something at an X that he absolutely cannot get to work either. I told him he probably just needs to get the hang of it and it will become easier. We've had the system a year so he definitely knows how to work the remote, so I'm not sure what the problem is. Either way, it was better today than the other day and they played for quite a while so perhaps this game will be a winner afterall.

After searching several store for another wii-mote (noone had one)I ended up buying the Wii play at Best buy today. The reviews are iffy so I havent opened it yet.

Any advice from this peeps on this thread?

TIA

WiiPlay costs $50, a Wiimote costs $40. So, basically you got a wiimote and paid $10 for a game. It's worth $10! It's not anything fabulous but it's a few fun little mini games and definitely worth the $10 you paid for it. I vote keep it!

Iluvthemouse: We like it (Wii Play) and think it was very much worth the price for the remote and (what comes out to) a $10 game. Cow racing is a hoot! And I actually like the billiards on there--it's the only kind I can win! We've had fun with the target shooting, too. Basically they are all mini-games but since they son't take a lot of time, it's good for a group, since no one gets too bored waiting for another pair to finish games. HTH

There are a bunch more comet levels. They are random, so he just needs to keep playing and another will show up. DH has 82 now and he just unlocked another comet level, so there are a lot. The game definitely gets harder about where your DS is, so tell him to keep going!

I've felt conflicted about Z&W for a while. I honestly got stuck and haven't wanted to play it anymore. I really don't like it as much as DH and all the guys at IGN. I think it's too hard for not a great pay off. I bet your DS will go back to it,tho. Part of the problem for me and lots of others is having so many other great games to play--you want to play those first.

As for Olympics, it just takes practice. From everything I've read it's really touchy and not as intuitive as the other games. So just have him keep working on that game's timing, not thinking about how it might work in other games or real life. I know it's not very helpful. :(

Wii Play is totally worth the extra $10. It's not great, but it really helps with the wiimote skills.

My Husband played the game on Wednessday night and then he went to go play it last night(Thursday) and everything was lost!( all the songs he completed) It did not auto save and I looked(at options) and auto save was on. I was not sure if we have do do something else!

Got it! The only thing we can think of is that he may have changed difficulty levels. You have to play through the same songs on each level, so it's possible that that is what happened. I haven't heard of this with anyone else, but you might be able to call Red Octane (the game maker) and see if they can walk you through it.

We got the Mario Party 8 game for Xmas and when we try to add a 2nd remote for the 2 player game it is not letting us do that. Can someone walk me through the steps to add the 2nd remote for this game? (I really am thinking that there is something wrong with the disc as the other games we have let us use 2-3 palyers.)

Thanks

Also Did he play career (by createing a band) or was he playing quick play? He should be playing Career with a band. If you start another band, or another diffaculty the songs are not unlocked.....You can also save where your at before you quit the game by going into options and simply saveing it to be safe.

Just a few more things that came to my mind.

You shouldn't be addding a 2nd remote to simply one game at a time unless it is not your wiimote. You should do the "One time-perminate" remote snych with all your remotes so that they are always recignized by your wii. I don't have time to go through it step by step, but it's written in the wii instruction book that came with the wii. Do this once and you will never have to do it again!

If it isn't your wii mote you need to hit the wii home button on the controller then click on the controller or any of the batteries...it will take you to the wiimote options you should resynch the wiimotes there...this will make it so the wiimotes will be able to be used for this play session only...kinda a one time nonperminate set up. Again it tells you step by step how to do it in the instructions.

Good luck, if I have time later I'll go dig out my instruction booklet and give you the step by step.

Sorry to crash the Wii thread, but I'm looking for help for my son's nintendo DS game. He is currently (still) playing Pokemon Diamond & pearl & wants to hook up to the internet. We have a wireless network with some kind of security (long code). I can't find the instruction book. Can anyone help me? Please? Thank you!

Don't worry I got ya covered!

1)when you first turn on your game.... you should be given a few options. (load the game he has been playing)(it will be the biggest box on the start screen)....NEw Game...(Possibly Mystry gift)...and finally Nintendo WFC Settings(should have a little picture of the ds next to it)<---Click on that one

2)Search for a signal....it should find yours it may show it "locked"...click that one....then imput your passcode for your wireless router. Now test connection.

3) IF it connects your good to go!!!! he can go into any pokecenter andconnect online withothers(but he must have their friend coded imputed and they must have his) The thing I use it for if the GTS global Trade station in Jubilife city....allows you to search for and trade for pokemon world wide! all he has to do there is talk to the receptionist.

4) if it does not connect and gives you a error code you may have to change firewall settings on your router....write down the code it gives you and go to nintendo.com....they have a spot to imput the code and it will help walk you through fixing the problem.

Hope that helps..if you need better instructions(as i shortened them) go to
www.nintendo.com/consumer/manuals go most of the way down the page and look at the Nintendo Wi-fi manual in adobe pdf.

PS...Nintendo DS and videogame questions in general are always welcome!

Anyone here play Lego Star Wars the Complete Saga?

I got it for Christmas -- put it on my wishlist once I heard about people really liking it, young kids playing it, etc.

I'm not a gamer by any stretch of the i magination...I get lost easily is free roaming worlds. I tried to played Lego SW last night and have no idea what I'm supposed to do...any thoughts or suggestions on how to not feel like an idiot here?

Are there any online walkthroughs or even tips for what im supposed to do?

Appreciate the input.

Cheers,
Josh
