Official Wii/DS Q/A thread. FAQ in first post! Game reviews in second post!

Does anybody know how to connect the wiis so that my friend and i can play each other from our homes, i thought that was possbile but i havent seena way to do it.

We are already hooked up to each other in that we can send messages to each other via the wii and they even setn me a pic but we sorta wanted to play tennis againts each other...is that possible, or is it only ceratin games?

Thanks so much for everyone's advice on this thread! My DD9 and DS13 love their Wii that Santa brought! So far they have played many of the WiiSports games, some WiiPlay, Mario Galaxy, and Mario Party. All have been fun! We are learning that DD should not drive! I hope she improves before she's a teenager!
This is our first game system so we are too new to really rate the games.

It is only certain games...unfortunately Wii sports is not one of them. The games that currently allow you to play online against one another are...
Mario Strikers Soccer, Pokemon, Madden 08, Medal Of Honor(the newer one),Battalon Wars...I know there are more right now, but they are escapeing my memory. So to be released will be Smash Brothers Brawl, and Mario Kart both of which are set to have massive online modes. Rumors of an Animal crossing wii online game by years end still are buzzing in my ear.(more on that as I hear it)

Hopefully the rumored wiisports II-with online play comes to be a real game, but I'm not holding my breath.

Hope that clears things up a bit.

Horned King - any idea why Guitar Hero III has wi-fi? I didn't see anything about playing online or against someone. The wiimote just snaps into the guitar so it isn't like the fact that it is wireless is a surprise. Just wondering why they is listed as a feature for the game. :confused3

Harleyquinn and everyone else: Thank you so much for all of your help in picking my games. My DD8 absolutely loves Raymond, along with her brother and the rest of us. Mario Galaxy is a hit with my son. We also like Olympics. I am still working on Zack and Wiki, but I think I will like it. Thank you and I hope you had a very Merry Christmas.

Totally dumb question here:

Can someone explain Sims:Pets? DD and I have been trying for 2 days to "get it" and we just cant. What does it do, should do, we do, etc?:rotfl: :rotfl:

Also on the deals front (cant remember if I mentioned this or not)

Best Buy is going to have Rayman Raving Rabbids 2 on sale atarting sunday for 29.99

Cheers!

Oh, I'm a little bummed, i thought we'd be able to play wii sports from afar..lol..i guess i will have to buy the games you mentioned and hope that wii sports 2 comes out with online capable play.

I have to add to the reviews here, i LOVE mario galaxy, i have gotten 2 stars already and its not so hard so far (im an 27 isnt that pathetic that i find these games hard..LOL) but anyway i wa afraid cuz im not very good at gaming but so far its pretty easy to understand and to play an dits a lot of fun. Thats the only thing i have played other than wii sporst and wii play. I still have to open sonic rings and chicken shoot.

Yes! You can play others over the Internet with GH. DH forgot that one.

GH 3 on the PS2 is still wired and the fact that the one for the new consoles is wireless is a big deal for people who have played it wired.

You're Welcome!!

Zack & Wiki can be tough, but you feel so great when you solve the puzzles. Also if you get stuck let us know and we can help you through it, so you can move on.

My Aunt is having problems with this too. I haven't played it, so I really can't help. Go to www.ign.com and read the review, they usually explain things. Or try www.gamefaqs.com They have cheats, but Whenever I get stuck with a game like that, I try there too.

Mario Galaxy does get kinda hard eventually. I have 58 stars and I flew through that, but DH has been whining a lot since then about how hard some of the levels are. The great thing is you don't have to get every star to beat the game, so if you get stuck, just move on and maybe come back to it later.

Enjoy Chicken shoot! :thumbsup2 :p

My children got a wii for Christmas and the day after bought High School Musical Sing It. Their cousins brought over a singalong game for PS2 on Christmas Eve, and they loved it, but HSM seems worthless. It has a bad echo that makes them not able to sing along. Has anyone else had this problem, and does Gamestop allow you to return with a receipt for an exchange?

Nice List!! Come back with reviews. I'm thinking maybe we should have a rating system for the thread for your games. 1-10 with 1 being horrible and 10 being perfect. And if everyone would please include what ages enjoyed the games and how many players you had and other stuff. I could keep track and put together something, so we'll have some famly reviews instead of just relying on the press.

What do you think?

Short reviews with a score, who played (who you think its appropriate for) and why you did/didn't like it.

great idea !!!

Ds only has sports(well i say DS but we are all playing....its just too cool) but he has Game cards to spend and i will get back to you with ratings for games he gets.

OMG. This is too funny. I was just scanning through the thread to see any new advice that may have been posted. DS is playing his Wii. He came in to tell me that Santa played the Wii on Dec 7. I told him Santa probably just wanted to make sure it worked before he delivered on Christmas. :rotfl: Not sure why he was poking around the console like that.

Oh, and he's been complaining of his arm and shoulder hurting. I can see it now. A whole new insurance category for Wii related injuries.

Well, my 11 y.o. nephew and his brother just received a Wii on Christmas Day. Unfortunately for him, he broke his arm the very next day. :sad2:

Any suggestions on a Wii game that I can get for him that he can play that doesn't require a full range of motion? He broke his right arm right at the wrist, which is his dominent hand. :confused3 Kinda sad, huh?

Quick Question for Guitar hero Three does any one no how to save the songs that you have done and earned money doing ? ( on career )

Thank You

Thank you.

Bought the usb hookup to day and got it running. Had to mess W/ my firewall but got it to work for my Wii and DS. Didn't get in to the DS much but have to say that am dissapointed with the features on the setup. I have most of the games that they'll let you down load and not really into the other stuff. But been reading that they are going to make some improvements so will wait for that. Thanks again!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!1

Lordy have mercy, I guess this gaming business has just completely passed me by. I got DD6 a Nintendo DSLite for Christmas with Nintendogs. I swannee, we cannot get this thing figured out! I am soooo tired of hearing her call out "lucky! lucky!" for the thousandth time! We can't get it to do anything but try to teach it his name! Surely there is more to it than this and if so, how do you get there??!!

Also, I only bought her this getup because I was able to buy her Peter Pan game off eBay. (She has been PP obsessed for years). It's a GBA game and it does work in the system but nothing is the same. It will say "press such and such" key and we don't have that key. I can't figure out what is comparable and she is even more confused than I. This was disappointing to me because I was so excited about getting her something with Peter Pan that she didn't allready have.

ANY input and advice would be GREATLY appreciated!

No, once you open a game no one will let you get all of your money back. They will take it for exchange for other games, but you won't get full price.

I tried to warn you guys about that game. :( It's a flash in a pan. Sorry! I know how hard it is to turn down Disney stuff, but that game is just not long lasting.

As far as an echo, try pulling the mic away from your mouth. Sometimes if you get too close it'll distort the sound.

That's terrible! But not hopeless.
There are tons. Actually MOST games don't require a full movement. And with Wii sports you can change to left handed mode. It might be fun! lol

Super Paper Mario, Mario Galaxy should be doable, My Sims, Excite Truck. You can play mostg games with just a flick of the wrist instead of full motion, but it takes a little getting used to.

Also he could play any gamecube game.

Thank You

I'm sorry, but I don't understnad your question. The songs automatically save when you complete them.

Nintendogs--Make sure the room she is in is completely quiet. She must speak clearly and consistently into the mic..This is huge! If she uses inflection on one word, she must always use that inflection. Don't speak too close to the mic and do the stylus movements. There are guides available that will walk you through each move. You should still be able to find them at GameStop. Or try www.gamefaqs.com or www.ign.com

As for PP, I'm not sure about the problem. The DS has the exact same buttons as the advance. The DS has a couple more, but the basic buttons are the same. Can you be more specific about which buttons? :teeth:

Thanks! I wish I had taken the time to read more of your reviews before letting them pool their money and get it :goodvibes . But, we will go back tomorrow and see what they will let us exchang for it:goodvibes .

No problem! Sorry for the I told you so. I'm working on making the reviews easier to find and more than just my own review, so we can help others escape the same fate.

Don't expect more than $35 for it. :(

Anyone with the dilemna of your kids wanting HSM, rent it if you can. They will see that it's not worth it by doing this.

BTW I spent all day playing Rock Band with our BFFs (on the 360, its not available on the Wii) and it is SOOOOO awesome. I did vocals, DH did the drums and our friends did the guitar. It was better than Guitar Hero, but it is harder. SO maybe by the time it comes out for the Wii, everyone will have gone through GH3 and be ready for more of a challenge.

Thats to bad. Although there maybe some games out there that dont require much moving of the arm or wrist, you are still moving it. And since its broken, its best to leave the Wii alone for now until his arm is completely healed. He doesnt need any more damage done to his arm or wrist while trying to play it while its broken. Both DH and I have actually sprained our wrists playing the Wii a couple times and each time we tried to play with sprained wrists it hurt A LOT so we just didnt play, and let our wrists heal and went back to gaming a few days later. With a broken arm it will take more then a few days to heal, but if hes playing he could end up injuring it even more or delay the healing process. And its just not the Wii, this applies for all game systems including portables. It even states in all user manuals for games that if your arm, wrist, etc begins to get sore and doesnt get better to stop playing and consult a dr. Good thing about game systems, they dont have legs, so they cant get up and run away. It will still be there when his arm is fully healed and he can enjoy the Wii a lot more. It would give him a good reason to make him wanna heal his arm even faster.
